ORS SOLUTION

Object:To prepare and dispense one dose of oral rehydration powder for1000 ml of oral rehydration soltion !ORS"#

Theory: ORS is a simple$ cheap and e%ecti&e treatment especially fordiarrhea related dehydration$ e#'# cholera or rota&irs# It consists of salts and

other sbstances sch as 'lcose and citrate# In diarrhea loss of water and

electrolytes leads to dehydration# (ence$ both water and electrolytes are

'i&en for the treatment of dehydration# If water alone is 'i&en it will dilte

the salts present in body and a''ra&ates the condition# ORS is sed arond

the world$ bt is most important in the Third )orld$ where diarrhea is still the

leadin' case of death#

In a 'lassfl of water add 1 teaspoonfl of s'ar and a pinch of salt# )e can

also add half a lemon#

OR

In 1 liter of water add 9 teaspoons of s'ar and 1 teaspoon of table salt# (alf

a cp of oran'e jice or half of a mashed banana can be added to each liter

both to add potassim and to impro&e taste#
