“Getting Wet in the Same Rain and Getting Warm in the Same Sun“

• Lithuanian ornament consist of one or few rhythmically repetitive geometrical and visual elements which are arranged on the top of the thing considering its parts and completeness. In Lithuanian language it has got the meaning „pattern“.

• Nowadays wristlets are very popular and fashionable in Lithuania – it is a part of a national costume. Wristlets are very popular between young girls and women.

• Very often the format of the ornament depends on the material it is made of and on its purpose. Sometimes the pattern of the ornament dictates the material - its texture, knitting, weave and structural joint.

Children made and ornamented stockings, mittens, dishes using Lithuanian patterns. They are:

• geometrical ornaments (the oldest ones) – stylized motives of nature found in all national art branches. The motives of sun, stars are found on ribbons, on the top of crosses, in architecture.

• mixed ornaments – it is a combination of geometrical, vegetal, animal, universe and human shapes‘ ornaments.

• The ornaments of universe - sun, stars, earth, arbor, flash. Light, dome.

• Animal ornaments – stylized shapes of animals: horses, snakes, deers, swans.

• Vegetative ornaments – the world of various forms of plants. It has got a simple disign in Lithuanian patterns. Furniture, clothes, articles of wood, dower-chests are decorated with vegetative ornaments. The plants can be visionary. These drawings are flat, plane, without any shadows.

• Pupils used plasticine, aquarelle, gouache, appliqué, felt-tip pens and crayons.
