COMPANYHISTORY
The mighty explosion launched a sonic wave of particles sprea-
ding billions and billions of light years, and then, silence. The
explosion left cosmic dust spread across an unfathomable expan-
se. The dust pooled and collected together, and on a day roughly
4.54 billion years ago, formed a small planet capable of sustai-
ning small, microscopic life in it’s carbon based environment. This
silence lasted for an uncomfortably long time, until a faint audible
hum could be heard. The hum grew louder as the first notions
of life from these microscopic creatures vibrated into existence.
It began with the singularity, a vast expansion, as infinite density exploded
outward in all directions. A birth 13.799 +- 0.0021 billion years ago.

Years passed, and life evolved. The sea creatures became cu-
rious, and crawled out of the depths and upon the shores of the
deep seas gasping for a first breath of oxygen. Some quickly died,
while others feebly oxygenated their blood, grew resilient, sprou-
ted limbs and found life amongst the multicellular eukaryotes.
One of these land dwelling creatures, Jeremy Adams, became bo-
red with his job as a web developer for Price-cutter. He desired
more, and took a position with a newly formed marketing company
in downtown Springfield. The marketing firm, like many, died, as
the owner fled Springfield for the sunny beaches of Florida, but
Jeremy, being determined to not fail, gathered the clients that
were left, and a portion of former employees willing to give Je-
remy the chance, and proceeded to set up shop in a new location
in a 4000 square foot basement office space on the corner of
Jefferson and Walnut.
Having discovered that renting office space was expensive, Je-
remy starting searching for a way to offset costs. After some
thorough Google web searches, he came across the concept of
shared office space, or coworking. With a little planning, reorgani-
zing, and Craigslist ad creating, three initial tenants, a marketing
director for Coke in Latin America, a day trader, and a Freshman
student looking for a quiet place to do his online classes at Full
Sail University, moved into the space.
Originate was born, and like those microscopic creatures four and
a half billion years ago, evolved and grew. Now housed within The
eFactory, with a burgeoning entrepreneurial community within,
Jeremy, Jeff (former employee of the marketing firm, his brother
& clinger-on), Tim (the Full Sail student & now Jeremy’s lead de-
signer) and the burgeoning denizens of Originate will never forget
those first moments of the singularity and the terrors they faced,
whether in tiny cubicles taking customer complaints, or in a time
of darkness, fighting a roaming pack of feral wolves for the last
scraps of deer before the long hard winter’s ahead.
A Bi-ped Discovers Coworking
Originate founder, Jeremy Adams, finds that coworking brings a spirit of colaboration and a thriving community when members of the Hominina clade are brought together in a shared environment.
The Emergence of Humans
Although some hold it under contention, it is widely theorized that Modern humans (Homo sapiens) are the only extant members of Hominina clade (or human clade), a branch of the taxonomical tribe Hominini belonging to the family of great apes.
The Cambrian Explosion
During a deep freeze that gripped the Earth 715 million years ago, the first animals came into existence. Known as Trilobytes, these creatures would be a major step in the evolutionary chain.
All scientific facts have either been fabricated, or stret-ched to fit a narrative. It is not recommend that any stu-dent use the prior information for homework or research paper material.

BUSINESS PHILOSOPHYWork is more fun when it is done together. That would be our mission statement, if we had a mission statement.
At Originate we take one thing very seriously. Work is fun, or
at least work should be, and dammit, we are making it that way.
Even if that means by force. We have Bernie supporter’s, Trump
supporter’s, undecided’s and even some ex-felon’s unable to ever
vote again (Missouri state statute 115.133.1), living amongst
each other, working hard to encourage and support each other
like a modern day Jim Jones compound of entrepreneurial spirit
without the mass suicide, but with the same cult-like devotion.
This community is dedicated to inspiring ideas that solve social,
technological, environmental, and economic challenges. We even
have one guy who brought his own bean bag in. That’s right, his
own bean bag…of ideas, and less idealistically, his own actual
bean bag.
This is the way coworking should be done, and this is the way we
are doing it at Originate. Through beanbags of ideas, old school
Greco-Roman wrestling, collaboration and friendship. We are one
of the most successful collaborative spaces in Springfield. Our
seats fill quickly. This is why we make grandiose statements with
a percentage nobody can fact check.
After all, our philosophy is simple: 99% of adult ring-billed sea
gulls* believe Originate is the best coworking space in the world,
and we plan to keep it that way.
*The 1% of dissenting adult ring-billed sea gulls prefer the Hubud
coworking space in Bali, but they can afford it. The 1% have more
wealth than the rest of the world combined.
Originate tenant Chad Boyd forgets to smile
Owner of the mobile application Txt2Give, Chad spends a great deal of time programming, and having fun, at his desk in Originate.
Chad takes numerous breaks throughout his day to challenge Originate’s own Tim Cook to champion bouts of Ping Pong.
The Tim Cook challenges Chad in the field of battle
Having lost numerous matches to Chad in the arena, Tim spends a lot of his time strategizing the eventual destruction of his arch nemisis in the realm of table tennis.
Tim is a mainstay of the Originate family having been with the team since its inception in 2012.

RESPONSE TO CHALLENGES
I absolutely hate when a sentence starts with a question, like it is some kind of weird discussion with an imaginary friend and I can read his mind.
Where it all started.
Our original offices beneath the Aviary Creperie at Jefferson and Walnut.
(top)The stairwell down to our location. (left)The back of The Tim Cook’s head as he studies for school.
Have you ever loved doing so-
mething so much that you were
willing to take baths in an office
space’s back closet mop sink?
Been so hungry that you did
web development for unsold
pomme frites from the crepe
restaurant housed above your
establishment? Been so terri-
fied that you kept a vigilant
eye on the alleyway breaker
switch in fear that the unpaid
utility bill had finally reached
the point for City Utilities to
send a strong arm out to shut
the power off?
8 | ORIGINATE
If the answer is no, then you
have never faced the challen-
ges of being a small start up
trying to just get by.
But showers in mop sinks, ne-
gotiating for scraps, and un-
derground arrangements with
utility workers were not really
the challenges we faced.
The challenge, in whatever
form, is always the same,
MONEY.
We could have run from these
challenges the lack of funds
created for us a million times
over, and we would be lying if
the thought did not pop into
our heads a time, or two.
But we didn’t. Instead, we
discovered that the hot water
heater is the perfect place to
keep your toiletries as you
hose yourself off while stan-
ding on the edge of a mop sink
basin precariously avoiding the
settled, stagnant water that
slowly swirls into downtown’s
atrocious drainage system.
We found that offering the
creperie’s sous chef his own
personal desk awarded us in
a move up from pomme frites
into full blown crepes, both sa-
vory and sweet.
And finally, we learned the art
of the deal, as we balanced the
sedative effect of over-apo-
logetic calls to CU customer
service and regular micro pay-
ments to keep the back alley
conversations to a minimum.

The eFactory.
“If there is something you must do and you cannot do it, you cannot do anything else.”
~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic’s Notebook, 1960
But most of all, we discovered
that facing these challenges
head on, and with conviction,
made us stronger and more re-
silient. Despite continuing cha-
llenges from time to time, we
are no longer forced to clean
ourselves in mop sinks. Now
we mop sink bathe for our own
nostalgic pleasure.

When we started (Originate),
we discovered early on that
our reach (Synergy) could help
develop tools to assist making
coworking more manageable,
developing relationships that
could benefit our marketing,
design and development work
and invest our knowledge in
others to lift other’s ventures.
Once all the pieces were in pla-
ce, we realized we could create
a document for the Chamber
of Commerce that we could
fill with definitions artificially
filling up space but still making
us look smart (Pretentious).
This work is done through our
interactive marketing com-
pany, Verv.
The following is a comprehen-
sive list of the products that
have been developed in coordi-
nation with Originate:
(above) The FieldLink DASHBOARD is the simple, but
robust, overview of the farm.
Covy
Our one-of-a-kind coworking
management tool developed
to maintain the day to day
operations of Originate that
has quickly grown to also be
utilized by The eFactory, Jor-
dan Valley Innovation Center,
Prairie Den (a coworking faci-
lity in Fargo, ND, a division of
Emerging Prairie, and Mercy
Research, a division of Mercy.
FieldLink
A solution developed from a re-
lationship with a local farm that
has gained a quick following for
it’s set of comprehensive tools
to track crops, assets and re-
port for government subsidy
requirements.

Marketing Efforts
Verv has been a behind-the-sce-
nes player for many companies
and has been responsible for
everything from sales presen-
tations, video production, and
marketing materials for nume-
rous tenants in The eFactory.
We have been responsible for,
not one, but two presentations
for Springfield Business Jour-
nal’s GO BIG Pitch Competi-
tion, our own Covy, and the
winner of the contest, Rural
First. We were proud to be
affiliated with his win, and have
continued our relationship with
numerous other projects for
him including: a new sales pre-
sentation, production of video
presentations, the creation of
brochures, a new website, a fu-
lly realized marketing plan and
a number of other tools for the
company to use for continued
success.

If Springfield didn’t exist, our parents would never have met as
students, and conversely, without Jeremy’s stewardship due to
non-existence, Originate would never have been. Contemplate
that Back To The Future kind of logic.
But, because a well-known alcoholic, James Wilson from
Springfield, Massachusetts, offered free whiskey to the then-
inhabitants of this unnamed section of land for a vote to be called
Springfield, and much later, a Hillcrest Highlander caught the
eye of a senior about to go into the Marines in 1968, Originate
does exist and we have a lot to be thankful for, and the best
way to show appreciation is to give back. Below is a list of both
non-profit affiliations we maintain, and the involvement in the
entrepreneurial community of Springfield.
