This kit is filledwith paper sculpture designs thatwill let you create paper replicas ofsomeof theworld’smostbeautifulandmost famousbuildings.The facadedesigns I’verecreatedarebasedontherealarchitectureofthesebuildings.Ifyoufollowtheprovidedinstructionsandteareachpieceandassembleasdirected(exceptsomeslotsorlineswillneedtobecutandfoldedforsomepieces),you’llseethatmakingthesesculpturesisnotreallythatdifficult.Thiskitincludes20diecutpapersheets7½x9¾inches(19x25cm)in size to create three projects. The decorative details are colored black to reduce thecuttingwork,butforthosewholovetocut,youmaycutoutallblackcoloreddetails.Itwill lookevenmorestunning.I’mparticularlyproudof thewaythesesculpturescanbefolded flat andopened again.This in itself is a fascinatingpart of the construct; if youtried to drawadiagramor analyze it, youwould see the complexity that goes into thismechanism.Whenthebuildingsareerectedtheyareanamazingsight.Althougheachofthesestructuresisdesignedtofold,frequentopeningandfoldingisnotrecommendeddueto the complexity and fragilityof thesepaper structures.Keep it in anopenposition asmuchasyoucananditwillretainitsbeautyforyearstocome.

6Whiteglue:Thisisperfectforgluingpartsofthebuildingbecausewhenitdriesit’sinvisibleanditholdspaperverywell.Becarefulthough,becauseonceit’sdriedyouwon’tbeabletochangeanythingwithouttearingthepaper.

BIOGRAPHYMy name is Yee (full name SheungYee Shing). I was born to a poor family inHongKong,whereIdidn’thavetoysasachild.Therefore,atayoungage,Istartedtofoldandcut old newspapers as a way to occupy myself. Later, I taught myself paper-cutting(silhouette) and started to design and handcraft toyswith paper. Since then (around 36years)Ihavebeendoingvariouspapercrafts.Creatinganddesigningpapercraftisbothmyhobby and job. Paper (one of the great inventions of Chinese) is one of the mostinterestingmaterial, it hasmillions of possibilities. I am trying to discover asmany ofthemasIcan.Idopaper-cutting,origami,popupcards,origamiarchitecture,papertoy,papercostume,paperlamp,andpapermodel,etc.Mostofmydesignsandmethodscomeentirelyfrommyimagination.OnceyouhavebuiltafewofthesebuildingsyouwillseewhyIlovepapercraftsomuch.

heWhiteHouseis themainworkplaceandofficialhomeofthePresidentoftheUnitedStates.Ithasbeentheresidence of every U.S. President since John Adams took up residency in 1800. The building is done inneoclassicalstyleandismadeofAquiastone,andpaintedwhite.TheconstructionbeganinOctober1792andthe
buildingwascompletedin1800.In1814theWhiteHousewassetonfirebytheBritishduringtheWarof1812.Itwasrebuiltafterthefireandcontinuedtoundergominorchangesbysubsequentpresidents.
TheTrumanadministrationwasforcedtoclosedownthebuildingbecauseitwasstartingtoshowsignsofseriouswearandstress.Acompleterenovationwentunderway,rebuildingthesuperstructureusingsteelinsteadoftimber.TheKennedysredecoratedmanyoftheroomsduringtheiradministration,givingittheelegantlookithastoday.TheWhiteHouseisanaccreditedmuseumwithover5000peoplevisitingeachday.
TheWhiteHouse is inWashington,DC.It stands70 feetor21.3meters inheight. Its depth is152 feetor46.3meters,whileitswidthis168feetor51.2meters.

TheTuttleStory“BookstoSpantheEastandWest”
Most people are surprised to learn that theworld’s largest publisher ofbooks on Asia had its humble beginnings in the tiny American state ofVermont.Thecompany’sfounder,CharlesTuttle,camefromaNewEnglandfamilysteeped inpublishing,andhis first lovewasbooks—especiallyoldandrareeditions.
Tuttle’sfatherwasanotedantiquariandealerinRutland,Vermont.YoungCharleshonedhisknowledgeofthetradeworkinginthefamilybookstore,and later in the rare books section of Columbia University Library. Hispassion for beautiful books—old and new—never wavered throughout hislongcareerasabooksellerandpublisher.
AftergraduatingfromHarvard,Tuttleenlistedinthemilitaryandin1945wassent toTokyo toworkonGeneralDouglasMacArthur’sstaff.Hewastaskedwith helping to revive the Japanese publishing industry,which hadbeenutterlydevastatedbythewar.Whenhistourofdutywascompleted,heleftthemilitary,marriedatalentedandbeautifulsinger,ReikoChiba,andin1948beganseveralsuccessfulbusinessventures.
Tohisastonishment,TuttlediscoveredthatpostwarTokyowasactuallyabook-lover’sparadise.HebefriendeddealersintheKandadistrictandbegansupplying rare Japanese editions to American libraries. He also importedAmericanbookstoselltothethousandsofGIsstationedinJapan.By1949,Tuttle’s business was thriving, and he opened Tokyo’s very first English-languagebookstoreintheTakashimayaDepartmentStoreinGinza,togreatsuccess. Two years later, he began publishing books to fulfill the growinginterestofforeignersinallthingsAsian.
Though a Westerner, Tuttle was hugely instrumental in bringing aknowledgeof JapanandAsia to aworldhungry for informationabout theEast.Bythetimeofhisdeathin1993,hehadpublishedover6,000booksonAsian culture, history and art—a legacy honored by Emperor Hirohito in1983with the“Orderof theSacredTreasure,” thehighesthonorJapancanbestowuponanon-Japanese.
The Tuttle company today maintains an active backlist of some 1,500titles,manyofwhichhavebeen continuously in print since the 1950s and1960s—agreattestamenttoCharlesTuttle’sskillasapublisher.Morethan
60yearsafteritsfounding,TuttlePublishingismoreactivetodaythanatanytimeinitshistory,stillinspiredbyCharlesTuttle’scoremission—topublishfinebookstospantheEastandWestandprovideagreaterunderstandingofeach.
