We are organizing the 4th International Congress of the Society for Ethnopharmacology in

Bardoli, Surat, India during February 23-25, 2017, under the joint auspices of Uka Tarsadia

University (UTU), Bardoli, Surat, Gujarat, India and the Society for Ethnopharmacology,

India (SFE-India). On behalf of the organizing committee of the Congress; the UTU and the

Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE - India): “Globalizing local knowledge and localizing global technologies” The Society for Ethnopharmacology, India is constituted by the eminent

academicians, researchers and industrialists with the vision of providing

an environment for knowledge sharing among researchers, healthcare-practitioners and

decision-makers interested in promotion of Ethnopharmacology and medicinal plants. The

Society is registered under the West Bengal Society Registration act 1961 and is affiliated to

the International Society for Ethnopharmacology, UK. After the grand success of the 12

International Congress of International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE) organized by

the School of Natural Product Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata during February 2012,

the Society for Ethanopharmacology, India (SFE-India) was constituted in August, 2013.

SFE-India is extremely grateful to Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, for

his inspiration and support during its creation. The mission of the society is promotion and

development of traditional medicine and medicinal plants through dissemination of

knowledge and development of collaboration and cooperation in this area. The society

organizes conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops etc in different parts of India for

discussion and sharing knowledge on different issues such as cultivation, production, quality

evaluation, safety, clinical studies, biological screening and several other issues of natural

product research. The Society helps to inculcate the modern global knowledge on herbs,

herbal remedies, herbal quality assurance, herbal trade and commerce, and herbal drug

development so that the person with local knowledge can be upgraded. It forms a bridge

between the academic and industry to gather scientific and teaching professional in

Ethnopharmacology and also professional of other areas interested in developing cost

effective natural remedies for healthcare of the society. The society also gives various awards

to the deserving scientists jointly with other organizations.

The International Society for Ethnopharmacology UK (ISE)

International scientific organization of researchers dedicated to the

interdisciplinary study and strengthens the link between the social and the

natural sciences. The ISE is committed to the preservation and conservation of such practices

for future generations. The objective of the ISE is to promote Ethnopharmacology as a

scientific field of research and also offers multiple ways to exchange information between

scientists and young researchers. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology is dedicated to the

exchange of information and understanding about people’s use of plants, fungi, animals,

microorganisms and minerals and their biological and pharmacological effects based on the

principles established through International convention.

Uka Tarsadia University (UTU) was established in 2011 by the Bardoli

Pradesh Kelavani Mandal (BPKM) with the help of generous donation from

Shri B U Patel, USA with an effort towards meeting the growing demand for

quality education. BPKM needs no introduction about its significant

contribution in providing collegiate education over the last 60 years in South Gujarat, India.

Located in the Southern region of the state of Gujarat in India, the entire campus is spread

across 100 acres of land with a total built up area of more than 1.5 lakh square meters. The

University provides educational opportunities to more than 8000 students. More than 450

faculty members of the University represent an eclectic mix of professional and academic

experience at national and international level.

C.G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology (CGBIBT) was established in the

year 2005 for initiating exclusive education programme in Biotechnology and

Applied Sciences. It offers 5 years integrated programs, postgraduate programs

and doctoral research in Biotechnology & Microbiology. Since its establishment, CGBIBT

has been striving to emerge as a centre of excellence imparting career-based knowledge to

students to realize their professional ambition. In addition, CGBIBT has also taken up a

mission to support the local farming community to grow profitable crops by supplying

quality planting materials to them. For this purpose a sophisticated Plant Tissue Culture

(PTC) lab and climate controlled greenhouse have been established.

Maliba Pharmacy College (MPC) was established on 1st

Oct 2000 with the

generosity of Shri N. G Patel, a visionary and a legend. The college is

approved by AICTE, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi and

Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Gujarat. The B. Pharmacy program is accredited

by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The institute has state-of-the-art infrastructure

and instrumentation facilities and provides a serene atmosphere for academic excellence. It

offers B.Pharm, M.Pharm and doctoral research in Pharmacy. The college houses voluminous

library, classrooms with multimedia facilities, well equipped laboratories and CPCSEA

approved animal house.

Abstracts are invited from the scientific community for oral and poster presentation. Abstract should be prepared using Times New Roman, 12 font with double line spacing and not exceeding 300 words. Underline the name of the presenting author. Send your abstract(s) to [email protected]. All accepted abstracts will appear in conference proceedings. Peer reviewed papers will be published in the special issue of UTU Journal (Journal of Pharmacy and Applied Sciences).
