Beede, Hill lift River Cats over Redbirds

Offense racks up 12 hits to propel Beede to his third win

The Sacramento River Cats (17-27) got strong performances from starter Tyler Beede and a

rehabbing Aaron Hill in their 6-2 victory over the Memphis Redbirds (28-18).

Hill got things started for the home side in the first, smacking a two-run triple to center field

and came in to score one batter later thanks to a Ryder Jones sacrifice fly.

Leadoff man Kelby Tomlinson collected three of the team's 12 hits, knocked in two runs, and

accounted for one of four multi-hit nights by the River Cats. Sacramento starter Tyler

Beede kept Memphis in check over his 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking

out two and walking three.

Sacramento has now won 10 of their 17 games this season against the top four teams in the

Pacific Coast League (Tacoma, Reno, Colorado Springs, and Memphis).

Sacramento will look to make it two in a row tomorrow afternoon when they send Joan

Gregorio (2-3, 2.47) to the hill. Gregorio, who owns the third best ERA in the PCL, will face

Memphis' right-hander Luke Weaver (3-1, 1.67). First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. (PT) and the

game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320.

Postgame Notes

King of the Hill: Third baseman Aaron Hill paced the offense with three RBI tonight in his fourth

rehab game with the River Cats…he played the entire game at third base and finished the game

2-for-4 with a double and home run.

Beede on his birthday: Tyler Beede celebrated his 24th

birthday with another solid home

outing…all three of Beede's wins this season have come while pitching at Raley Field where he

owns a 2.30 ERA (27.1 IP, 7 ER)...he leads the team with nine starts and 49 innings pitched.

Tomlinson: Second baseman Kelby Tomlinson knocked in his first two runs this month…his RBI

both came with two outs…had his third three-hit game of the season tonight and extended his

current hitting streak to four games.

Rogers: Submariner Tyler Rogers made his 20th

appearance tonight, the second most in the

PCL…the right-hander went 1.2 innings and did not allow his inherited runner to score…he owns

the fifth lowest batting average against (.190).

High and dry: Sacramento stranded 11 men on base, two off their season high…went 3-for-10

with runners in scoring position…on the year, the River Cats are hitting .296 with runners in

scoring position.

JetHawks Edge Giants In Series Opener, 5-4

San Jose's bid for third straight win falls short

LANCASTER, CA - Lancaster's Brian Mundell hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom

of the sixth before supplying a go-ahead RBI double in the seventh to lead the JetHawks to a 5-4

victory over the Giants on Tuesday evening at The Hangar. The series-opening defeat was San

Jose's (18-28) first loss on their road trip after back-to-back wins the last two days.

Daniel Carbonell (3-for-4, 2B) had three hits and Gio Brusa (1-for-3, HR, RBI) smacked a solo

home run to lead the Giants offensively in the setback. Ryan Howard (2-for-5, RBI) and Heath

Quinn (2-for-4) also finished with two hits apiece.

The back-and-forth affair saw Lancaster jump out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first against

San Jose starter Mike Connolly. Garrett Hampson led off the frame with a double into the right

center field gap. Brendan Rodgers then stepped to the plate and belted a two-run home run off

the scoreboard in deep left center.

JetHawks starter Trey Killian began his night with three scoreless innings before the Giants

broke through in the top of the fourth. Still down by two runs, the fourth-inning began

when Aramis Garcia reached safely on a fielding error committed by Scott Burcham at third.

Consecutive singles from Quinn and Dillon Dobson then loaded the bases with none out.

Following a strikeout of Brusa, Jonah Arenado delivered a line drive single into left plating both

Garcia and Quinn to tie the game 2-2. Dobson though was thrown out at third attempting to

advance on the play before the next batter, Matt Winn, struck out to promptly end the inning.

San Jose then took their first lead of the night with a single tally in the top of the fifth. Carbonell

led off with a bunt single before moving to second on Jalen Miller's groundout. Howard then

blooped a single into shallow center to bring home Carbonell from second for a 3-2 Giants

advantage.

Brusa extended the lead to 4-2 when he crushed a solo home run to right center in the top of

the sixth. The homer was Brusa's team-leading seventh of the season.

Meanwhile, Connolly settled down after his first-inning struggles to toss four straight scoreless

frames. The right-hander set down Lancaster 1-2-3 in the third and fifth innings while also

facing the minimum three hitters in the bottom of the second. In the fourth, the JetHawks put

two runners on base with two outs on a single and a walk, but Connolly stranded both.

With San Jose ahead by a 4-2 margin, Connolly returned to the mound in the bottom of the

sixth, but immediately ran into trouble when he issued a leadoff four-pitch walk to Rodgers.

Following a Sam Hilliard fielder's choice groundout, Mundell launched a 3-2 pitch over the

fence in deep left for a game-tying two-run homer. The home run was Mundell's team-leading

ninth this season.

Later in the sixth, Connolly yielded back-to-back two-out singles to end his night. Caleb

Simpson entered from the bullpen and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases, but

avoided further trouble when Burcham flied out to left to end the inning and keep the score

tied.

The Giants were set down quickly in the top of the seventh before Lancaster went back to work

in the bottom of the inning. Simpson fanned the first two batters of the frame before Hilliard

lined a single into center. Mundell was up next and he laced an 0-2 pitch from Simpson to the

fence in deep right center for a double. The hit scored Hilliard all the way from first base giving

the JetHawks back the lead at 5-4.

In the top of the eighth, Quinn led off with a single, but the next three San Jose hitters were

quickly retired. Then in the ninth, Carbonell singled with one out before Howard singled with

two down to put runners on the corners. However, Lancaster closer Alexander Guillen escaped

when he struck out Garcia on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.

Logan Cozart (1-0) earned the win for the JetHawks after tossing scoreless seventh and eighth

innings out of the bullpen. Cozart struck out three and retired six out of the seven batters he

faced. Guillen pitched the top of the ninth for his fourth save of the year.

Simpson (0-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the bottom of

the seventh.
