A company’s culture is its identity. It is how the company views itself and how the company wishes to be viewed by the outside world… but, building the culture you want is not quite as easy as you may think. Simply claiming some set of values or plastering catchy phrases and core values on the wall won’t build your culture.

11:00–12:00 Organisational diagnosis: Theoretical and practical implications

• Planning and Coordinating an Organisational Diagnosis. The justification for conducting a diagnosis and how to frame the organisational diagnosis project in terms of describing the project, linking it to the business, planning and coordinating a successful diagnosis project and acquiring the resources needed to conduct the diagnosis.

• Data gathering in groups – an inclusive way of gathering rich data. A synthesis on focus group methods will be offered. Various creative ways of conducting focus groups are highlighted. The presentation will focus on the philosophy on phenomenology and touches on ways to conduct focus groups, questions to ask, conscious listening and ways to capture data. Ethical considerations are considered and criteria for conducting effective focus groups are shared.

• Action planning and learning. In the process of organisational diagnosis, gathering data around the problem areas being investigated is half of the picture. Figuring out what to do with that data, and how to most effectively implement the change you desire is the other half. The critical aspects that need to therefore be embedded throughout the action planning process that follows from a diagnostic survey, will be presented.

seta grants and accreditation requirements

Many of our delegates enquire about the accreditation of our events. There is a misconception that organisations qualify for SeTa grants only for accredited programmes. This is not correct. The payment of SeTa grants is regulated by the government gazette, no. 9867, Vol. 570, 3 December 2012, no. 35940. These regulations clearly state that the SeTas “must allocate a mandatory grant to a levy paying employer” that has submitted a wSP and aTr by the regulated date, has provided all the information required in the regulated template, and is up to date with skills levy payments. furthermore, the template in the regulations (Section c: Skills Development) allows employers to include all planned training in the report; not only accredited programmes.
