Organisation of Costumes & Props

In my music video, I have decided to make my model perform scenes in 2 different outfits, to

show the different sides of the characters personality in their different scenes.

Costume 1• For the scenes where the main character wants to

stay with her partner over the career, I decided to pick an outfit consisting of a dark blue jumper with a dog print, skinny black jeans, and a dark blue coat with a faux-fur hood. I made the model tie her hair up, and wear neutral make-up.

• These clothes were all part of the models actual wardrobe, but I chose them because I thought they perfectly fit the type of character I wanted to represent. The dog print suggests someone who is soft and caring, and the overall look is something most people around the target age of the audience would be familiar with.

• These clothes go against the typical look of costumes worn in the electronic genre, because normally they are more stylish and revealing. I decided to go against the conventions because I wanted this character within the video to be obviously normal, and due to the surrealist ideas within the video I thought the costume would be the best way to show this.

Costume 2• For the scenes where the main character wants to pick her career

over her partner, I decided to change the look slightly by taking off the coat and jumper, replacing it with a white t-shirt with an edgy design. I also made the model untie her hair so it was loose and falling over her shoulders.

• The shirt was also already in the model’s wardrobe, and I decided to use it because I thought the abstract print on the front looked particularly artistic and would help to get across the more relaxed and eccentric side of this character. I also thought that the difference in colour between the dark jumper and coat with the first character and the white t-shirt for this character would help to establish the difference between the two. However, I wanted to keep the black jeans to show the connection between the two sides of the character within the video, to represent that although she is being pulled in two different directions, it is all still happening inside the same body.

• These clothes are a bit more typical of the electronic genre than the first costume, however I believe if you asked most people what genre this costume belonged to, they would guess rock music. I wanted to do this because the character is meant to be daring and adventurous, and the rebellious spirit of rock music perfectly encapsulates this side of her.

Props• Because of the natural outdoors setting and the focus on the

editing, I didn’t want to use very many props within the video, however there were a couple of things I have decided to use to make the video complete. All props used within the video belong to the model, so no organisation was needed because she could bring them all to the location with her.

• In the video I have decided to use a range of different coloured face-paints. This is because I want to accentuate the fact that this video is meant to be some sort of dream-like vision by having the model’s face covered in smudged paint. This is meant to symbolise the character after she has chosen her career over her partner, and the fake side of the industry has driven her crazy because she wants to change her decision. Abstract images like this are typical of the electronic genre, because paint makes videos more vibrant and exciting, something which fits perfectly with electronic music.

• I have also decided to use an iPhone, because in the song she sings “because I’m looking to the phone and your love’s gone stale”. In the video the phone represents the career opportunity she has been given, and the way the 2 different sides of the character reacts to it shows the inner turmoil in the character.
