WHAT IS AN ORGAN TRANSPLANT?

An organ transplant is an operation that places a

healthy organ from one person into the body of

another. The organ can come from someone who

has signed the state's donor registry prior to

passing away or told his/her family of their wishes

to become a donor.

WHY ARE WE DISCUSSING THIS TODAY?

On the New Jersey Auto Driver’s

License there is a box for Organ

Donor. Many people are unaware of

the importance this box holds.

WHY BE AN ORGAN DONOR?

Last year, organ

donors allowed

for over 28,000

transplants to

occur.

Additionally, over

one million tissue

transplants took

place.

There is no cost for you or your family if

you choose to become an organ donor.

Anyone, with any background, can choose

to be an organ donor.

If you are ill, the hospital's first priority will

always be to save you, even if you choose

be an Organ Donor.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!1) Make your decision. Consider personal

values and beliefs while deciding if Organ

Donation is right for you.

2) Check the "Organ Donor" box off on your

driver's license when you turn 18 and get

your basic driver’s license.

-You can register online or at a local DMV.

-To register in person you need to provide

your typical 6 points of identification as

you would present at any license renewal.

A list of valid points can be found at

dmv.org.

- We have the possibility of saving 80 lives from

Organ Donation.

- We can save up to 1,000 lives from Tissue

Donation.

Donation.
