OUR APPROACH, OUR JUDGMENTS, AND OUR ACTIONS!In Luke 7, we read the story of Jesus eating at a Pharisee’s house. A woman came to that house to see Jesus. Let’s look at Luke’s account of that meeting and see what we can learn that will help our own spiritual lives. Behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at the table… brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair and kissed his feet…(7:37-38). Like this woman, we need to approach God with humility. We should never forget that we all come to God as sinners, we all come to God as debtors, and we all come to God in need of a savior. As the story continues, the Pharisee makes a judgment about the woman and earns a rebuke from Jesus. Jesus said, You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet (7:45). We should never be like that Pharisee and hinder someone from coming to Jesus because we felt we were better than them. We need to be careful of our judgments. As the encounter ended, Jesus said that the woman’s sins, which were many, were forgiven because she loved much. Jesus told her, Your faith has saved you, go in peace (7:50). Like the woman, we need to grow our faith and live in peace. Jesus will make a difference in our lives only if we open our hearts to Him. The world is in need of more peacemakers today. Peace with God leads to peace with mankind. Peace with mankind leads to a better world. Humility, fair judgments, and faithful love helps.
Davy’s Diary Davy Carter, Outreach Minister
Throughout His life, Jesus was constantly inviting people. We certainly see this in the gospel of John.
• John 3—To Nicodemus: “Come to me and be born again of water and spirit.” • John 4—To the woman at the well: “Come to me for living water and true worship.” • John 5—To the invalid by the pool: “Come to me and be healed.” • John 6—To the crowd He miraculously fed: “Come to me for the bread of life.” • John 7—To those at the Feast of Tabernacles: “Come to me all who are thirsty for rivers of living water.”
Whatever your need today, Jesus’ invitation still stands: “Come to me.”

March – Chasing the Wind-EcclesiastesMar. 31… What’s the Point? – Eccl. 11:9-12:14
April – To Seek and to SaveApril 7… What Love Really Looks Like – Luke 10:25-27April 14… Priceless in His Sight – Luke 15:1-32April 21… Death Could Not Hold Him – Luke 23:26-46; 24:1-12April 28… Seek and Be Found – Luke 19:1-10
Thoughts on Serving in the Kingdom…“7 Laws of Service in the Kingdom” (conclusion)
Six…The servant never hesitates to honor others who serve well. Scriptures on this abound: I Timothy 5:17; Philippians 2:29, and I Corin-thians 16:16 are examples. Why: Because this is what love does.We must not miss the irony here. We do not seek recognition, but we must be prompt in giving appreciation. I imagine the implication of that would therefore be, we should not value the appreciation when it is given. If we were to do so, we might become too dependent on it. And the servant who needs to be appreciated is setting himself up for disappointment.
Seven…The servant looks to his Master for recognition and reward. “To his own master a servant stands or falls” (Romans 14:4).Our Lord has told us what to expect. “Well done, good and faithful ser-vant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many” (Matthew 25:41,23). So many other texts prepare us for the moment when the Lord makes things right. “You will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:14). And “Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day. And not to me only but to all those who love His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8).
Michael Winner quotes, “A team effort is a lot of people doing what I say.” Sadly, this seems much like our world today…too many chiefs, not enough Indians.
The great apostle Paul reminded the Philippian brethren that unity (teamwork) is accomplished through hu-mility. Hear these words from Phil. 2:3-4: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowli-ness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
The thought “it’s my way or no way” is arrogant and thoughtless. I guess there really is “more than one way to skin a cat”. Hebrews 10:24 gives us all some great advice. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.”
