ORDER FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD

TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

OCTOBER 16 2016 ∙ 10:30 AM

PRELUDE Douglass McFarland

SONG OF PRAISE This Is Amazing Grace

2

THE APOSTLES’ CREED Michael Wichlan Associate Pastor

PEOPLE I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into the grave. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy worldwide church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

ELDER-LED PRAYER

TITHES & OFFERINGS The Mighty Power of God—Trinity Choir

I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise, that spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; the moon shines full at his command and all the stars obey. Their luminous display reflects the power of God.

I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food. He formed the creatures with his Word and then pronounced them good. Lord, how your wonders are displayed where’er I turn my eye; if I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky. From seas to mountains high, the earth cannot contain the goodness of God.

The heavens are telling the glory of God! The heavens are telling the story, the whole earth is filled with his glory, the heavens are telling the glory of God!

There’s not a plant or flower below but makes your glories known, and clouds arise and tempests blow by order from your throne. While all that borrows life from you is ever in your care, and everywhere that we can be, O God, you’re present there. We joyously declare the power of your love, your powerful love.

DOXOLOGY No. 735 Gloria Patri

PASSING OF THE PEACE Please sign and pass the Friendship Pad located at the end of your row.

LEADER The peace of Christ be with you.

PEOPLE And also with you.

SERMON Dr. Mike Rasmussen Ephesians 5:19-21 is found on page 978 in the ESV Bibles. Senior Pastor

CELEBRATION OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

The communion bread is gluten-free. We serve wine during communion. If you prefer grape juice, please take a purple cup at the center of the tray.

We come forward for communion. This meal is open to every shepherded sheep of Jesus Christ; that is, to every communing member in good standing of any Bible-believing church. Please allow the outer seating sections to be served first and then the two center sections will be served. After you receive the elements, you can either take them immediately, or return to your seat to pray, confess, and meditate, taking the elements when you are ready. Feel free to sing along as the musicians lead us, or to silently commune with the Lord.

LEADER Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:25-27

PEOPLE “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

Revelation 19:6-8

LEADER For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

PEOPLE “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” Revelation 19:9

HYMN FOR REFLECTION All the Way My Savior Leads Me—Denise Wichlan & Eric Baesel

All the way my Savior leads me; who have I to ask beside? How could I doubt his tender mercy, who through life has been my guide? All the way my Savior leads me and cheers each winding path I tread, and gives me grace for every trial, feeds me with the living Bread.

You lead me, and keep me from falling. You carry me close to your heart, and surely your goodness and mercy will follow me.

All the way my Savior leads me; O, the fullness of his love! O, the sureness of his promise in the triumph of his blood! When my spirit, clothed, immortal, wings its flight to realms of day, this my song through endless ages: “Jesus led me all the way.”

You lead me, and keep me from falling. You carry me close to your heart, and surely your goodness and mercy will follow me.

HYMN OF PRAISE May the Mind of Christ, My Savior

POSTLUDE Rejoice, the Lord Is King

Our elders will be at the front following the service. If you have a question or a need, we welcome you to come forward to talk or for prayer.
