Thought for MeditationOn the one hand we must accept the finite disappointment, but in spite of this we must maintain theinfinite hope. This is the only way that we will be able to live without the fatigue of bitterness and thedrain of resentment.

    *Call to Worship Psalm 66:8-9,16-20

Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of Gods praise be heard,God has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip.Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what God has done for me.

I cried aloud, and extolled God with my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; God has given heed to the words of my prayer.Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer or removed steadfast love from me.Let us worship God!

    Call to Confession

It is a gracious God who allows us to approach in prayer, and greets our honest confessions with thepromise of forgiveness. With humility and confidence, let us offer our prayers, first speaking themtogether, then in silence.

    Prayer of Confession

Gracious God, you welcome us as we are, but we admit that we are great pretenders, even withyou. We pretend we are strong when weakness pervades our souls. We pretend we have hopewhen our lives are in despair. We pretend we are yours when we have allegiances to other godsand powers. Give us the courage to repent of our pretense, so we may joyfully reenter your realm of hope. Amen.

    The Gift of Forgiveness

Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truthlove one another deeply fromthe heart. We have been born anewthrough the living and enduring word of God.Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*PeaceSince God has forgiven us in Jesus Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you all.And also with you.

Worshippers are invited to greet one another with the words,The peace of Christ be with you.

Sermon Accounting for Hope*Hymn - #376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling HYFRYDOL Verses 1 and 4

    * Affirmation of Faith "Spirit" section of Brief Statement of Faith, PCUSA

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies usby grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, andbinds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ throughScripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feedsus with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church. In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, towitness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church andculture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ inour daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God's new heaven and

    new earth,praying, Come, Lord Jesus!
