Inere- forc, most dcarly beloved in Christ, tako ye good heed, lcst yc ~vithclra~~ing yourselves from this holy supper, pro- voke God's indignation against you. It is an easy matt- for % man to say, I mill not communicnte, because I s* othermisc letted with worldly business : but such c l c u s a be not so casily acccpted and allowed before God. If any man say, I am a grievous sinner, and therefore am to come : wherefore thcn do you' not repent and amend Whcn God callcth you, be you not ashamcd to say you' mill not come? Where- fore, rather than you should so do, depart you hence and give place to them that be godly disposed. And because it is requisito that no man should come to the holy Communion but with a full trust in God's mercy, and with a quiet conscience: thorefore if there be any of you which by tho means aforo said mnnot quiet his own conscicncc, but requireth further comfort or counsel; then let him come to me, or some other discreet and leiwiled niinister of God's ~ o r d , and open his gricf, that he may ~yweive such ghostly counsel, advice, and comfort, as his consciencc may be relievcd ; and that by the ~ninistery of God's word he may receive comfort nnd thc benefit of absolution, to the quicting of his conscience, w d avoijling of all scruplc and doubtfulness.

Then & + l l the Priest say this exhortation.

DEARLY beloved in the Lord : ye that mind to come to the holy Conlmlinion of the body and blood of our Saviour Christ, must consider what S. Paul writeth to1 thc Corinthians, how he eshorteth all persons diligently to try and examino themselves, before thcy presume to eat of that brcnd, and drink of'that cup : for as the benefit is great, if with a truly penitent heart and lively faith we receive that holy Sacra- ment, (for then we spiritually eat tho flesh of Christ, and drink his blood, then wc dwell in Christ--ind Christ in us, be onc with Clil&, and Christ with us;) so is th6 dangcr great, if we receive the same unGorthily. For then we be p i l t y of the body and blood of Christ our Saviour. We eat and drink our own damnation, not considering the Lord's body. We kindle God's wrath assinst us, me provoke him to plague us with divers diseases, and sundry liincls of death. Therefore, if any of you Le n blnsp11cmer of God, an hinclcrer or slanclcrer of his word, an adulterer, or Be in malice or envy, or in any other grievous crime, be- wail Tour sins, and come not to this holy Tablc, lest aftcr

Judge therefore yourselves, brethren, that y e be not judged of the Lord. Repent you truly for 1-our sins past, have a lively and stedfmt faith in Christ our Saviour. Amend your Eves, and be in pcrfcct charity with all men : so shall ye bc meet partakers of thosc holy mysteries. And above all things y e must give most humble and hearty thanks t o God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, for the re- demption of t he world by the death and passion of our Saviour Christ, both Gocl and man : who did humble himself, evcn to thc dcath upon the Cross, for us miserable sinners, which lay in d n r h e s s and shadow of death, that hc might make us the childrcn of Gocl, and exalt us to everlasting life. And to thc end that me should al~vay remember the exceeding great l o w of our Master and only Saviour Jesu Christ, thus clying for us, and the innuinei.a5le benefits (which by his precious blood shedcling he hath obtained to us,) hc hath in- stituted and ordkined holy mysteries, as pledges of his love, and continual remembrance of his death, t o our greet and endless comfort. To him therefore with t he Father and t h e IToly Ghost, let us give (as we are most bounden) continual thanlts : submitting ourselves wholly to his holy mill and pleasure, and studping to serve him in true holiness and rigllteousness all the clays of our life. Amen.

?J Then shall the Priest say to them that come to receive the holy Communion.

You that do truly a'nd earnestly repent you of your sins, and be in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lcad a ncw life, follo~\.ing the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in l& holy ways : Draw near, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort: make your humble confession to almighty God before this congre- gation here f;irthcwed together in his h o l i name, mcelily kneeling upon your knees.

3 Then shall this general confession be made, in the name of all those that are minded to rcceive the holy Communion, either by one of them, or else by one of the ministers, or b~ the Priest himself, all kneeling liuinbly upon thcir laws.

THROUGH Jesus ' Christ our Lord, accorcling to whose most truc promisc, the I-Ioly Ghost came down this day from hcnven, with n sudden great sound, as it had been a mighty mind, in the likeness of fiery tongues, lighting upon the Apostles, to teach them, and to lead them to all truth, giving them both the gift of divers languages, and also boldness with fcrvent zed, constantly to preach the gospel unto all nations, whereby me are brought out of darkness and error into the clear light and true knowledge of thee, and of thy Son Jesus Christ. ALMIGHTY God our heavenly Father, which of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ, to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption, who made there (by his one oblation of himself once offered) cz full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world, and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death, until his coming again : Hoar us, 0 merciful Father, we beseech thee: and grant that me receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesu Cl~riat's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood: who, in the same night that he mas betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying : Take, eat, this is my body which is given for ysu. 4Altliougl~ no order can be so perfectly devised, but it may be of some, either for their ignorance and infirmity, or else of malice nncl obstinncy, misconstrued, depraved, and interpreted in a wrong 1 ~ - t : And get because hrothcrly charity ~villcth, that so much as conveniently may be, offellccs should be taken away : therefore wc lvilling to do the same. IYhcrcns it is ordained i11 the book of conlnlorl pmycr, in tllc administration of thc Lord's Supper, that the Colllinunicants kneeling should receive tllc holy Comlnuniou : wliicll tiling being well meant, for .a signification of the humble and grateful ackno~dedging of thc benefits of Christ, given unto the wortily receiver, and to avoid tlic profanation and disorclei*, whicli ntout the holy Coninlunion might else ensue : lest yet the snlnc linecling might be thonght or tnlien otherwise, we do de- clare that it is not meant thereby, that any adoration is done, or ought to bc done, either unto the sacramental brcad or wine there bodily received, or to any r e d and essential pcscnce there being of Christ's natural flesh and blood. For as concerning the sacra- inentlsl brcad and wine, they rennin still in their very natural substances, and thcrefore may not be adored, for that were Idolatry td be abhorred of a11 faithful Christians. And as concerning the Gitural body and blood of our Saviour Christ, they are in heaven and not here. For i t is against the truth of Christ's true natural body, to be in more places than in onc at one time. - . - -
