Determine which type of pipe you have by checking at the location where the water source enters your home, digging to the pipe, or calling your local water district.

Check with your city, county, state or municipal water agencies to determine if anti-siphon valves are required in your area and if the frost line is below 6 inches, then check the appropriate boxes on the left.

Use the same unregulated outside faucet used for the pressure test, and make sure no other water is running on the system. Using a bucket and something to measure time in seconds, open the faucet fully, place the bucket under the faucet, and start timing. record how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket. We recommend that you take multiple readings and record the longest time.

tip: Performing the bucket test on a pressure regulated faucet can skew the results. Use an unregulated faucet or tie into the main water source for more accurate results.

Connect an Orbit® pressure gauge to an unregulated outside faucet. With the pressure gauge attached, turn on the faucet and record the reading from the pressure gauge. We recommend that you take multiple pressure readings and record the lowest one.

• Water in the morning when there is little wind and temperatures are cooler. Avoid watering during the middle of the day.

• Adjust the run times on your sprinkler timer to reduce water waste.

• Use interval watering with shorter run times to reduce runoff.

• Use pressure regulating spray heads to improve nozzle performance and the health of your turf.

• Consider drip irrigation in your flowerbeds and gardens to reduce water use, decrease weeds and promote healthy root systems.
