ACADEMY
GENERAL
INFORMATION
Our goal is to create a positive online learning
experience but your commitment and participation
in this online setting will be required for your child to
be successful. The application for the program will be
posted online very soon. After the application process
we will ask that you sign an agreement of
understanding before your child begins the program.
We are excited to begin a new program for the
students of Sullivan County and look forward to
partnering with you in your child's education.
Students will be learning the Tennessee curriculum,
follow the Sullivan County calendar, and will work at
the pace of a regular/traditional classroom. This will
require that each student in the program spend
several hours on school work each day. Most class
work will be delivered through a learning
management system such as Google Classroom or
Schoology to be determined by the teachers at a later
date. Families and students will receive specific
guidelines and training for support.
The Sullivan County Virtual Learning Academy does
not charge tuition to student K-12 who are residents
of Sullivan County. You may use your own device to
participate in the program but if needed, we can
provide a school-owned device.
NO COST
LEARNING
THE EXPERIENCE
The Sullivan County Virtual Learning Academy
will use the internet, computer software, and
Sullivan County teachers to deliver online
instruction for grades K-12. The purpose of the
Academy is to provide an excellent learning
experience for students in their home
environment delivered by Tennessee certified
teachers who will use high quality curriculum to
teach Tennessee state standards. The Academy
will be available for free to residents of Sullivan
County, but will not be available for non-Sullivan
County residents this year. The course catalog
includes: core subjects, career and technical
education, foreign languages, fine arts, and
wellness. Some courses will be offered through an
online vendor, but most will be developed by a
select team of highly-qualified teachers. Students
will be allowed to use their own technology or a
device can be provided. Students in the program
will be expected to take benchmarks, RTI
screeners, and TCAPs. Students will complete
assignments aligned to Tennessee state
standards. Teacher expectations will be at their
highest for the program to be successful and for
your child to receive the best experience and
education. There will be an application process
for students to enter the Academy and
contractual commitments between home and
the Academy. Students will remain enrolled at
their home school while enrolled in the Sullivan
County Virtual Learning Academy.
