Purpose:
To observe and determine the growth of
mold on a glass of no pulp orange juice
under various temperatures.

Hypothesis: If the glass of orange juice is put by the boiler
it will grow the most mold rather than the glass of juice in the freezer. Why? Because
heat creates a moist environment for the mold to grow and also it will spoil the quickest since orange juice needs to be refrigerated.

Materials:
Large zip lock bags
Orange Juice (no pulp)
Plastic cups

Procedure:
1. Pour 6 glasses of non- pulp orange juice into non reusable plastic cup.
2. Put each cup into a zip lock bag and seal tightly.
3. Label all the bags with sharpie. (control, outside, vent, boiler room,
freezer)
4. Then put each glass of orange juice in a different location with different
temperatures.
Freezer
Over a vent
Outside
Boiler Room
A place where the temperature is normal

Controlling my Experiment:• Do not move any of the glasses of orange juice
• Keep in a place were it can’t be disturbed
• Make sure all the glasses of orange juice are the same height
• Do not open the bag
• When disposing the orange juice, do not open the bag

Vent:

Freezer:
![Page 12: Orange Juice](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062218/5681667d550346895dda25cb/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Boiler Room:
![Page 13: Orange Juice](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062218/5681667d550346895dda25cb/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Conclusions:
Both the orange juice in the boiler room and on the vent contained the most moisture and were discolored. In contrast, the one in the freezer and the one outside, which were both frozen, did not change color.

My Understanding:
Now I know that the juice I used doesn’t mold in 2 weeks, and that if the orange juice is put in a warm environment, it will first spoil the quickest and contain the most moisture. Also, I think the orange juice didn’t grow mold yet because of the preservatives in it to keep it from spoiling.

Further Questions:
• I wonder what would have happened if I left the orange juice for another week? Would it have molded?
• Will cranberry juice mold quicker that orange juice?
• Would fresh squeezed orange juice have molded quicker?
