Breakfast Club has commenced operating this year. Please note the days have changed slightly with the club running from Tuesday to Thursday from 8:40am until 9am. This is a free service with all children able to attend if they/you wish. Please ensure you have updated the school regarding any relevant allergies or food intolerances. If you do not wish your child to attend this service please advise the school.

Don’t forget that Orange East PS has a FREE school app! Simply go to your App or Play Store, depending on your mobile device, and search ‘School Stream’. Once you have found and downloaded the app, simply search for Orange East and select as your school. Currently available are permission notes, newsletters, upcoming event notifications, live alerts and even the ability to return absence slips.

FRIDAY ASSEMBLY

Our first Friday assembly will be held next week, Friday, 8th February starting at 2:15pm in the school hall. This assembly will be for students in Year 3-6. We will put out a full term assembly roster in next week’s newsletter. Unless there are clashes with dates—the assemblies will alternate each week between Year 3-6 and K-2. Students in Year 2/3 Emu will attend the Yr 3-6 assemblies.

HOMEREADING

Homereading information and log book packs will be sent out over the coming week. Please note that the first official (recordable) date for Homereading commences on Monday, 11th February (Week 3). A reminder that you may only record one entry per day – regardless of how many books may have been read or for how long. As in the past we suggest approximately 10 minutes for K-2 and 15 minutes for Year 3-6. Please adhere to the guidelines provided to ensure fairness for all.

SCHOOL GATES

A reminder that all gates, with the exception of the Spring Street gate, are locked each morning at approximately 9.15am. If by chance a gate is closed, but unlocked, you can gain access throughout the day, however, please close it behind you. This is to ensure the safety of students, particularly if they are at risk of absconding from school grounds.

P&C CHEERS AND TEARS MORNING TEA

Please note our school P&C will be running a Cheers & Tears Morning Tea for all kindergarten parents/carers next Monday morning. Why not pop into our school hall for a light refreshment, meet some other parents/carers and share the experience of that nervous first day? The hall (next to the COLA assembly area) will be open from 9:15am with all food/drinks free. Toddlers welcome.

SUMMER UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS

As we are in the middle of summer, a reminder that during Term 1 it is compulsory for students to wear their maroon school bucket hat while playing in the playground, as well as during PE and Sport. Students not wearing the correct hat will be restricted to playing in designated shaded areas. Please note while generic (no emblem) bucket or wide brim hats are acceptable, caps or other coloured hats are not accepted as part of school uniform.

Girl’s Navy Sort Option (NEW)

After significant consultation with P&C we have opted to move to providing a girl’s navy short option in the uniform. Over the coming weeks, we will finalise the official style of shorts through a last consultation round with the wider community and senior students. This year will be a transition period with all girls being allowed to wear either the school tartan style shorts or navy shorts or if they prefer, the original tartan dress.

After this final round of consultation has been completed—the official style along with purchasing options/outlets will be communicated via the school newsletter and Facebook. In 2020, all girls will have either the official navy shorts or the tartan dress as their summer uniform options.

STATIONERY PACKS

Please note all basic stationery requirements have been purchased for all students. This year the school will meet a significant portion of this cost but we are also asking parents to contribute $20 towards the purchase of this important equipment. This fee covers the cost of books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, scissors, glue sticks and also a number of online educational software packages we purchase for all students in the school. The total value of the listed items is significantly more than the amount above but funds raised through this fee will allow us to purchase further items to support learning in all classrooms and also ensure quality, appropriate and consistent stationery is being used by all students.

Stationery for each class will be managed and distributed by the class teacher, as per the system they set-up in their room. The stationery, including books, has been purchased corresponding to the year level/needs of the students. If parents wish to purchase additional items we suggest a pencil case, coloured pencils and/or textas for individual use – all clearly labelled. Over the coming weeks teachers will send out their class newsletter/note which will detail any additional items they would like sent in i.e. tissues, paint shirts, etc.
