Stage 3 AGRI-Tech STEM Day

Last Thursday, 20 Stage 3 students attended the AGRI-Tech STEM Day at the Orange Agricultural Institute.

The students were given the opportunity to work together in learning groups to problem solve a variety of agricultural problems using digital technology. A key highlight for the students was learning about the incredible role that drone technology plays in modern farming.

The kids had an amazing day and are all to be congratulated on the way they involved themselves in the learning and proudly represented their school.

Thank you to Mr Mellis and Mrs Press for organising this excursion.

DEBATING

On Friday of Week 5, our Orange East Debating team hosted a debate for Round One of the Kerri Parkes Western Debating Challenge. Our topic was “Children today get too many rewards”. It was an extremely close debate and although not in our favour our team, they left us feeling exceptionally proud. Their efforts and teamwork were amazing. A special mention goes out to Darius Thurtell and Abby Johnson who experienced Debating for the first time and took it in their stride. Isabel Tinson kindly shared her debating experience with the team. Lachlan Crossman did a fantastic job as Chair Person and Ariea Forrest-Smith was a wonderful timer. We are already preparing for Round Two in week 10 of this term. Well done Debaters and many thanks to Ms Hay and Miss Cheney for their work preparing the team!

GIRLS NETBALL

Last Wednesday, our Girls Netball team travelled to Orange PS for their first game against the OPS team. All girls played extremely hard and should be proud of their efforts. Although we walked away with a loss, all girls displayed sportsmanship, courage and determination throughout the whole game. Well done girls! Thank you to Miss Croker and Miss Frecklington for organising this event.

CWA PUBLIC SPEAKING FINALS

Last week we acknowledged Jazzy Agland-Fuller, Erin Anderson, and Willow Fisher for representing our school at the CWA Public Speaking Finals. I would also like to acknowledge Isabel Tinson who was selected as the Year 6 finalist but was unable to attend due to attending the Student Leadership Conference at Bathurst. A wonderful effort by all involved as well as Miss Cheney for her organisation.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS

Kindergarten enrolments are now open for 2020. Early in Term 3, we will form our Kinder Enrolment Panel and making decisions as to placements for our school. Enrolment forms are available via the school office.
