Program Summary
Founded in 1967 as one of the first Head Start preschool programs inOrange County, Orange Children &Parents Together has established along tradition of learning. We havemade a lasting impact on tens of thousands of children and theirfamilies through the followingprograms:
School Readiness
We begin preparing children for kindergarten the day they begin in our high quality preschoolclassrooms. Teaching staff use Creative Curriculum which focuses on building childrens skillsespecially in the areas of cognitive development, language and literacy, socialemotionaldevelopment, and physical development. Throughout the year, our teachers hold home visits
and conferences with parents to discuss how their childs skills are progressing.
We work closely with Orange Unified School Districts School Readiness Program to coordinatecurriculum and promote Kindergarten readiness. Four of our preschools are located inelementary schools, which facilitates a smooth transition to Kindergarten. All our children visit Kindergarten classrooms each spring as part of our School Readiness Program.
Health & Nutrition
In October 2008, we launched a Cavity -Free
Campaign that encouraged all 480 childrento visit their dentist and follow up on dentaltreatment. Within sixmonths, all ourchildren were free of cavities or were intreatment.
All 480 children received health screeningsfor early intervention, and participate in adaily health program that included dentalcare and health checks.
Play is often talked about as if it were relief from serious
learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is reallythe work of childhood.Fred Rogers

of preventing childhood obesity.
Family Support
We strengthened families bysupporting and empowering parents asprimary educators and nurturers of their children. We providedcomprehensive family support servicesthrough the Tustin Family Resource Center , funded by a grant from theCounty of Orange Social ServicesAgency.
Literacy Programs
At OCPT, we believe that strong reading skills set the foundation for all future learning. In ourclassrooms, every learning activity encompasses a component of literacy and language development.OCPT had two literacy and language development programs that carry classroom learning into thehome:
Raising -a-Reader encouragedparents to read with their childat home. Each child has theopportunity to take a bright redbag containing ageappropriatebooks home so that parentscould read with their childrenevery day for one week.
Reading is Fundamental (RIF) promoted early literacy andlanguage development by
celebrating the joy of reading. The RIF program promotesreading in the classroom and at home, and each child received anew book to keep and enjoy.

Parent Involvement Activities
Our comprehensive child and family development programs are designed to respect and honor
parents and families as the primary educators of their children. Our goal is to strengthen families byproviding thoughtful guidance and helpful resources in a safe environment where children andfamilies can come together to learn, grow, and connect. Our bilingual/bicultural staff is uniquelyqualified to support parents in their efforts to actively be involved in their childs education. Westrongly encouraged parents to volunteer in the classroom, to participate in parent site meetings, onthe Policy Committee and on the Board of Directors. We know that by working together, we canempower families and ensure that each child leaves healthy and ready to learn upon enteringkindergarten.
