Having ¨somenone¨ familiar constantly on hand with whom you can have conversations about anything and everything is a wonderful way to introducing new subject and new language to young children. For exampe: if you use a teddy as your mascot. Teddy, can you swim_ No I can´t, but i can sing. And Teddy then sings a song. Or Teddy, do you like carrots? Ugh, no! What about bananas? Yes, I love them.

SILHOUETTES You can use silhouettes on the

overhead projector; they can be given movement if you attach a piece of wire to them.

PUPPETS It don’t need to be more than

masks, and these don’t have to be complicated. They can just be paper bags with holes for eyes.

Dialogues and role play

Working with dialogues is a useful tool.putting pupils into pairs for doing the dialogues is a simple way of organising even large

classes.Firtst the teacher will have to present the dialogue in whatever

way .

Page 8: Oral work element 2

Using objects

Here are two dialogues wich show how physical movements or objects can make a dialogue como alive for young children.

The children can choose which dialogue they want to follow.

Page 9: Oral work element 2

Role play

Another way of presenting dialogues is through role play .In role play the pupils are pretending to be someone else like the teacher or a shop assistant ,or one of their parents.

Page 10: Oral work element 2

In real role play ,the language used comes from the pupils themselves,so your pupils will have to be familiar with the language needed.

Page 11: Oral work element 2

Dialogues and role play are useful oral activities because: They speak in the first and second person. Learn to ask as well as answer. Learn to use short complete bits of language and to respond

appropriately.

Pairwork
