TSC Affiliate Profile

The original founders of TSC recognized that with the growing demand for OAT, many dentists were engaged in treating their patients on an intermittent basis and only when the subject was voiced. OAT was developing as a treatment option, however, many unanswered questions remained with both the patient and the dentist. Dentists wanted to increase their knowledge and understanding of dental sleep and OAT, as well as increase their clinics' foci and treatment in OAT and related dental sleep therapies. There was a need and demand for a dental sleep-focused body that possessed the capacity to not only provide dental sleep medicine education, but also processes, techniques, price benefits, and business practices on an ongoing basis.

Oral Appliance Therapy

OAT is quickly becoming a leading therapy instrument in sleep conditions and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) treatment. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) officially declared the use of the dental appliance as an appropriate first-line treatment for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for specific qualifying patients based on comprehensive, long-term evidence showing its efficacy.

US Oral Appliance Market to Double by 2020 Published on March 18, 2015 - Sleep Review Oral appliances have been increasing in popularity as an alternative treatment method as they are less invasive and expensive than CPAP. Frost & Sullivan anticipates that the US oral appliance market will double by 2020, with custom appliances seeing five times the revenue increase during that period.

In a survey of the Apex360 Editorial Advisory Board in 2015, panellists were asked 'What was the most significant trend or change you saw in the dental industry in 2015'. Lou Shuman, DDS, CAGS, President and CEO, Cellerant Consulting Group responded: "The most significant trend was the medical community's increased recognition of dentistry's vital role in solving sleep breathing problems. Business and practitioner interest in the sleep sector grew significantly as a result of the potential impact of oral appliance therapy (OAT) in treating sleep apnea and snoring."
