A message of a warm relationship! There once lived a goat-herder who had a very nice size flock. One evening, as he was driving his animals out of the pasture, he noticed several wild goats that got mixed in among them. Seeing this, he did what he could to keep them all together. Later that evening, a terrible blizzard came, forcing the herd to come close together. As the winter progressed, the herd-herder fed his own flock just enough food to keep them alive, but he gave the wild goats plenty of food hoping they would stay in the spring. Finally, the first thaw came. The goat-herder could lead the animals out to pasture for the first time in months. And what happened? The wild goats immediately ran away from the others, making their way toward the mountains. The goat-herder shouted at them in anger, “You ungrateful beasts, I took you in and offered you shelter. I gave you more to eat than what I gave my own! Why are you leaving?” “My friend, it is because of what you did, that we are leaving,” said one wise, bearded goat. “Yesterday, you treated us better than the herd that you have had for so long. How can we trust that tomorrow you will treat oth-ers better than us?” Winter and then spring is filled with little Jewish and joy-ous moments. Yes, we just celebrated Chanukah soon, we will celebrate Tu Bishvat then Purim and Passover. This winter, there will be weddings, babies born, Brit Milot, Naming celebrations, B’nai Mitzva celebrations, and so many other wonderful simchas. Even though it’s cold, now is a great time to go out and meet new friends and to grow relationships. There is so much warmth to enjoy as we share our lives together, yes, even during the cold months. But, let us all remem-ber the message of the goat-herder. We should never sac-rifice the gift of old friends for the promise of new ones.

May we share a great winter together and may we all learn to cherish and appreciate the friends we have, always and all the time.As we approach 2017, I continue to be over-whelmed with the support you have given me these past 6 months. I am fortunate to have an outstanding board, a tal-ented Cantor, and an amazing Rabbi. I refer to Rabbi Perl-man as the energizer bunny- he just keeps going and going. As president of TNT, I have had conversations with many of you. Rabbi Perlman will soon share with the executive board what he has heard from congregants during parlor meetings and 1:1 meetings. Chanukah means dedication. Many have re-dedicated them-selves to Temple life. Attendance at Shabbat morning has improved. Friday night services are filled with so much ruach. It was wonderful to see so many TNT congregants at the second grade TTS/TNT religious school service on De-cember 16th. Our children made us proud. Sunday morning minyanim are back! After services and a delicious break-fast, we study with Rabbi Perlman. New events have been introduced and we encourage congregants to suggest others. You showed what a generous community we are as I deliv-ered more than 60 presents to children so that their holiday may be a bit brighter. In addition, I had the privilege of serving dinner to four families at Community Covenant Church as part of Family Promise. Laurie Dunn, Alyse Bar-bash, Rabbi Perlman, and I had a wonderful evening with the families as we got to know them. The two little girls and the 2-month-old baby were the highlight for all of us. My Chanukah presents for you First night- my thanks

Second night- Rabbi Perlman and Cantor Steve Third night- volunteers- clearly too many to mention Fourth night- more time with family Fifth night- consider tzedakah Sixth night- acts of kindness Seventh night- supporting evening minyanim Eighth night- Peace I look forward to spending time with my family this Chanu-kah and making new memories. Playing dreidel, making potato latkes, lighting candles and singing Chanukah songs will take me back to so many wonderful Chanukah celebra-tions. Hold the date- Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. as Rabbi Perlman and his brothers along with Cantor Steve will entertain us with a concert to remember. Mark, our family and I wish all of you a Happy Chanukah and a Healthy and Happy 2017. Adele

Of Snow, Shabbat and Honoring Your Children I had been going through a bit of a rut. Between being unprepared for the December snow, to feeling crazed with work and family obligations, to squeez-ing in Chanukah shopping, printer troubleshooting, and house cleaning, I felt like I was losing precious time to bond with my own children. I prayed for a solution, and then Mother Nature (or G-d’s hand) intervened. Early the morning of Satur-day, December 17th, the snow kept falling, and fall-ing…and falling. I had discussed with Rabbi Perl-man and Adele Lubarsky the possibility that snow would prevent me from coming up to TNT on Shab-bat morning, and by 8:30 am I knew that I would be staying home. By about 10am, my twins were getting restless and were itching to play in the snow. We all changed into our snow gear and bolted outside with sleds and visions of “mal’achei sheleg” (aka snow angels). For a good hour, I pushed my kids on their sleds down a slight embankment in our back yard. Then I brought out a Frisbee to toss around with my son, and a toy shovel for my daughter to dig to her heart’s content. She wound up hiding the shovel under the snow, and the search ended with my feet nearly tripping on the yellow shovel. All in all, this elixir of blissful time with my children became the ideal antidote for my existential conundrum. I have decided to bottle this feeling of joy and create many more small moments like this with my chil-dren in the upcoming Gregorian calendar year. Since that decision, I have thought to myself, how can I share this goal with our congregation? Here’s my thought: Let’s celebrate the multiple generations at Temple Ner Tamid every Shabbat! If your children and grandchildren are also mem-bers, come to a service together. If you come on Saturday morning, we will honor you with an Ali-yah. Even if your children/grandchildren live far away, come to honor their accomplishments when Rabbi Perlman asks for good news. Over the last few months, we have been so blessed to enjoy Ellen Winokur’s two sons’ weddings, one local, one 3,000 miles away, and Howard Winokur delivered a fabulous Haftarah. Then we had double simchas with the Talewskys, as Allen celebrated his son Yoni’s wedding to Stacy Lemeshow, as well as the bris of his first grandson, Jordan. Around the same time, we celebrated the baby naming of Heather and Travis LeDoyt’s daughter Abby. We

welcomed multiple generations at services with Janice and Elliot Wyner, Irene and Ed Gustat, Nan-cy and Fred Becker (on their 45th anniversary), and Anita and Mark Rudin, to name a few. We cele-brated the grandparent simchas of Barry and Gail Falkoff, Donna and Alan Lehman, and Jodie and Larry Malatzky. On the other side of the multi-generational docket, Richard Strauss celebrated with us as his mother Anne Strauss turned 100! And how could I forget the bris of Rabbi and Kit Perl-man’s own grandson! So my invitation to you is to honor your children (in attendance or not, local or across the country) by coming to a Shabbat service. Whether you sponsor a Kiddush, come up for an Aliyah (coupled with a mi shebeirach blessing, “siman tov, mazal tov” song and candy toss), or just publicly share the good news with Rabbi Perlman, I would like to recreate the sheer joy that I experienced rollicking with my children in the snow one rare Shabbat morning. Meanwhile, Chag Urim Sameach! (Happy Holiday of Lights…Chanukah!)

On Saturday December 3rd, we held another suc-cessful Men’s Club Auction. We had a great crowd in attendance and it was a fun evening. Thank you and congratulations to our Auction Co-Chairs, Da-vid Ponn and Harvey Cohen and their entire com-mittee. Special thanks to Alan Titelbaum for doing yeoman work with coordinating the auctioneers, technology and many behind the scenes activities. The Men’s Club also would like to thank all of the attendees and bidders for supporting the Auction as the proceeds go directly to help fund many of the endeavors and needs at Temple Ner Tamid as well as college scholarships for our youth and our social action programs. On Sunday morning February 5th, in conjunction with the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs we will be holding the World-Wide Wrap. On Saturday Feb-ruary 11th the Men’s Club is running the “Giggles” comedy dinner show offsite. This is a fun event and you don’t want to miss it! There will be more details on these events available soon! Wishing you and your families a Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year! Larry

Sisterhood Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone! This year, Sisterhood has been off to a busy fall/early winter and has many more events coming in the new year. In November we held our semi-annual Rum-mage Sale and Paid Up Supper. Thank to everyone that helped. December was low key with our only event being our annual Hanukkah Party. Thank you to Wendy Gershlak and Sue Feinstein for an evening of fun and laughs. The gifts were really extraordi-nary this year and I think everyone (or mostly every-one) went home happy. It really is a bit of a social experiment watching what people keep and swap! Thank you to Ethel Babner and Sue Savy for repre-senting our Judaica Shop at the Community Hanuk-kah Bazaar. It was a great representation of what our shop has to offer and as a bonus was a pretty profita-ble day. Your dedication is not unnoticed! Also thank you to Ethel Babner and Judy Kemp for all their hard work on the Sisterhood Calendar. It is a lot to undertake. We should also thank you to Sandee Matteucci for bringing in new ads for the calendar. January brings Sisterhood Shabbat on the 20th with our own learned and talented Tracy Cranson and Esther Kaufman leading us. If you’d like a part, please contact one of them. I look forward to join-ing my Sisters in song and prayer that evening and hope you will join us as well. We are a pretty talent-ed bunch, so don’t miss out on this enjoyable night! This month, watch your mail for our annual Tealess Tea. With the New Year beginning, I hope to see new and seasoned members at our events. If there is something you would like to do, please let me know. We are always looking for new and exciting ideas and volunteers. While I think we have a pretty suc-cessful organization, there is always room for im-provement. Here’s to the days getting longer and may your shoveling be minimal this winter! L’Shalom Sue Callum

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP TEMPLE NER TAMID

A congregant recently approached me and asked what he could do to help support our Temple. One thing that anyone can do is to commit to attend-ing an evening minyan one night every week. This would ensure that those who are saying Kaddush or a Yahrzeit have a minyan To paraphrase a great President. Ask not what your temple can do for you but what can you do for your temple. Evening Minyans are Sunday thru Thursday 7:30 PM and only takes 15 minutes. We have two couples who attend Minyans every Monday even-ing. As your ritual chair I will pledge to attend eve-ry Tuesday evening. I look forward to your partici-pation in our endeavor to maintain evening minyans Allen Talewsky Ritual Chair

We are still Collecting! Save Cancelled Postage Stamps For

the Holocaust Stamps Project! Students, staff, parent volunteers, and friends of Foxborough Regional Charter School have been saving, trimming, and count-ing cancelled postage stamps since 2009 as part of a Community Service Learning initiative, the Holocaust Stamps Project. Five years ago, an ambitious goal was set – to collect 11 million stamps to visually illustrate the enormity of that number of chil-dren, women, and men having been killed as a result of preju-dice, racism, and discrimination by the Nazi regime. Six million Jewish people and five million others considered by Germany’s dictator to be “enemies of the State” are being honored and me-morialized by each of the collected stamps. Thousands of the stamps are being used, by small groups of tal-ented middle and high school FRCS students, to create a series of 18 unique collage pictures that reflect causes and effects of the Holocaust. Long-term plans are for a public venue to be found where the entire collection of stamps can be permanently dis-played in a custom designed acrylic sculpture, along with the whole collage series. As of mid-November, more than 6,611,500 stamps had been counted, but there is a long way to go before the goal is reached.
