Figure 1.4 shows the system block diagram.

The main control board controls all the modules built up the OptraImage 443. It includes a RISC. ARM7as the main controller, two Flash Memory as program area and one EDO RAM as working space, one89C52 for panel control, two ASIC for flatbed and ADF image processing and each have external 32MBSRDRAM for data processing, two A/D converter for processing flatbed and ADF CCD signals input, twosets of motor drivers for driving flatbed and ADF motors, two SCSI controller for data interfacing withhost and printer.

The power is an external 24V/2500mA power adapter for the whole system. There are some differentvalues inside the OptraImage 443:

+24V Power directly comes from the power adapter and used for flatbed and ADF motor.

+12V Power converted from 7812 to supply flatbed and ADF CCD

+5V Power converted from 34063 to supply 89C52, SCSI controller and some 5V logic.

+5V Power converted from 7805 to supply flatbed and ADF A/D converters and all analog circuit.

+3.3V Power converted from LM2576T to supply ARM7, two image processing ASICs and some 3.3Vlogics.

The video noise suppression circuit is to eliminate the reset noise and low frequency noise of CCD andthen PGA performs video gain control. The “level shift” circuit is used to bias the PGA output tosatisfy the reference bottom requirement of the A/D converter. 2.12.12.12.1 Precautions of InstallationPrecautions of InstallationPrecautions of InstallationPrecautions of Installation

Pay attention to the following matters before unpacking and installation.

• Do not install in a place where vibration may occur.• Keep the scanner out of direct sunlight. Do not install near a heat source.• Do not place the scanner around materials which shut off the circulation of air.• Do not install in a humid or dusty place.• Do not use the wall socket with connecting devices which may generate noise, for example, air-

conditioner, etc.• Use a suitable AC power source.• Place the scanner on a level surface.

Unpack the scanner according to the following procedure.

• Remove the packing material.• Remove the scanner from the shipping container.• Remove the scanner from the PVC bag.• Open the manual to the checklist page.• Check the items by referring to Figure 2.1 and the checklist in table 2.1.• For any missing items, please contact your nearest dealer or distributor.

The devices linked to the SCSI interface are daisy-chained with each other. A terminator isattached to both ends of the SCSI daisy-chained cable. User can buy the SCSI cable at electronic orcomputer stores. The specifications of the SCSI cable is as below:

Name: SCSI CableCable Specification: 50 pins or 25 pins to 50 pins, shielded AmphenolCable Length: less than or equal to 6 meters

The scanner is shipped with the SCSI cable. The SCSI cable is used to connect your scanner and printer.Connect the SCSI cable in this step, but do not turn the power on yet.

There are two configurations for the connection.

1. If there is already another device linked to the host via SCSI cable, remove the terminator from thatdevice. If the terminator can not be removed, it is recommended that the connection of Configuration Ibe used.

2. Set scanner’s SCSI terminator switch on.3. Plug one end of the SCSI cable to one female connector of the previous device or the host.

SCSI specifications require that:

1. Only one terminator may be attached to each end of the daisy chain.

2. The total length of the daisy chain must not exceed 6 meters. The vendor suggests that the SCSI cable betwo or three meters in length to allow other devices to be attached to the SCSI bus.

3. Each device on the chain will be assigned a different ID. Devices with the same SCSI ID will cause themto malfunction.

4. There is no restriction on the position of the devices on the daisy chain.

2.52.52.52.5 SCSI ID SettingSCSI ID SettingSCSI ID SettingSCSI ID Setting

When you have several devices on a SCSI chain, you may need to adjust the SCSI ID selector setting locatedon the back of the scanner (See Figure 2-3). The SCSI ID selector is a dip switch allowing you to assignan unique ID number from 0 to 7. If the ID number is duplicated with an existing SCSI device, the scannermay not work properly.

Note that the scanner contains two SCSI devices. One is the scanning unit itself, the other is the controlpanel on the front of the scanner. The SCSI ID selector for the scanning unit located at the left sidewhile the SCSI ID selector for the control panel located at the right side.

1. SCSI ID # selector of the scanning unit (factory setting: 6)

3.1 DiagnosticsDiagnosticsDiagnosticsDiagnostics

3.2 TroubleshootingTroubleshootingTroubleshootingTroubleshooting

This chapter describes two methods to solve the operational problems. The first relies on the OptraImage443’s internal diagnostics. The second uses troubleshooting flowcharts and tables to isolate the problem. Inmany cases, the internal diagnostics will help you to locate the source of the problem quickly. Use thesediagnostics first. If the diagnostics do not locate the source of the problem, refer to Section 3.2TroubleshootingTroubleshootingTroubleshootingTroubleshooting.

4.4 Spare Parts Replacement

This section describes the spare parts replacement procedures. Depending on the part, adjustment orlubrication may be necessary, but this will be described in Section 4.7.

4.4.14.4.14.4.14.4.1 Notes on ReplacementNotes on ReplacementNotes on ReplacementNotes on Replacement1. Clean the disassembly and assembly location.2. Turn off the power switch and remove the AC plug from the outlet before disassembly and assembly.3. Follow the disassembly and assembly procedures. Never loosen the screws of parts that must not be disassembled.4. Store the disassembled parts in a clean place to avoid loss.5. After replacement, check the contacts and spare part mounting.6. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
