    Figure B-2PVC tape

    Precautions

To facilitate future removal of tapes, first wrap a layer of PVC tape and then wrap the waterproof

insulation tape over the first layer.

    Procedure

Step 1 Clean the connector or the grounding clip.

Step 2 Uncoil the waterproof insulation tape.

Step 3 Stick one end of the tape to the IF cable 2 to 5 cm away from the connector or the groundingclip.

The sticky side should face inwards.

Step 4 Stretch the tape until it is 3/41/2 as wide as its original size and always keep this stretchingstrength in the following steps.

Step 5 From the point that is 2 to 5 cm away from the connector or the grounding clip, wrap the cablespirally towards the connector or the grounding clip. Make sure that the overlapping area of

adjacent tape layers is 1/2 of the stretched width.

Step 6 When the tap runs to the point that is 2 or 5 cm away from the connector or the grounding clipat the other side, reverse the wrap direction to let the tape go back to the starting point.

Step 7 When the tape reaches the starting point, reverse the wrap direction to let the tape run to theother ending point.

That is, there are three layers of waterproof insulation tape.

Step 8 After wrapping, squeeze the tape until it sticks to the cable to make sure that no air remainsbetween tape layers.

Step 9 Similarly, wrap three layers of PVC tape over the waterproof insulation tape.

During the wrapping, maintain the stretching strength to keep the width of the PVC tape 3/4

1/2 as wide as the original size.

Step 10 After waterproof processing, use the outdoor bundling strap to bind the PVC tape tight at thepositions 1 cm away from the wrapping edges at both ends, to avoid aging and falling off of the

    PVC tape.

CChecking the Cable CircuitDuring the cable routing, bundling and connector installing, there may be short circuits or open

circuits in cables. Hence, it is necessary to test cables after the above-mentioned procedures are

complete. This section describes how to use a multimeter to test a cable with the DB44 connector

at one end and one group of SMB connectors at the other end.

    Tools and Instruments

    l Multimeter

    l Short-circuiting line

    Procedure

Step 1 According to the pin assignment of the DB44 connector, use the short-circuiting line to short-circuit two pins that correspond to an SMB connector.

Step 2 Use the multimeter to measure the resistance between the internal and external conductors ofthe SMB connector.

The resistance should be zero ohms.

Step 3 Remove the short-circuiting line.

Step 4 Read the multimeter. At this time, the multimeter also measures the resistance between the

internal and external conductors of the SMB connector. The resistance should be infinite.

Step 5 Repeat the above steps to test other core wires of the E1 cable.
