The most favourable option for a New Tees Crossing is the A19 Tees Viaduct Capacity Enhancement Option.
OPTION 1: THE TEES VIADUCT CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT OPTION
■ New low level two-lane bridge built parallel to the existing A19 viaduct to carry traffic travelling northbound from the A66
■ Existing viaduct structure widened to provide an additional lane for A19 southbound traffic
■ Existing connections between the A19 and the A66 simplified. New links provided to accommodate all traffic movements
■ Additional eastbound lane added to the A66 between the Teesside Park Interchange and the viaduct
■ Additional westbound lane added to the A66 between the viaduct and Teesside Park Interchange
■ Construction of the Portrack Relief Road
■ Maintaining, and where possible improving, connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists
■ Existing speed limits of 70mph on the A19 and 50mph on the A66 retained.
