Objectives

Take control of retail printing processesStandardized price labels and posters help retailers boost customer engagement and satisfaction. To improve process control, some retailers centralize printing operations at headquarters, but that often adds cost and slows the delivery of materials to stores. Retailers need a comprehensive technology solution that streamlines and automates label and poster printing.

The SAP® Label and Poster Printing applica-tion by GK is a powerful solution for retailers. Based on the latest technical standards for printing in chain store environments, the application supports automated, storespecific label and poster production.

With this platformindependent software, print jobs are triggered whenever you make modifications to the master data in your merchandising system. Automated rulesbased processes make printing faster and more efficient. Instead of having store staff

manually create labels or posters, you can use the software to print highquality materials with consistent layouts and uptotheminute infor ma tion, all at the appropriate retail outlet.

Except for the printer and printer adapter, all solution components can be located at your headquarters office, reducing the cost for perstore software licenses, data storage, and hardware. The SAP software gives you the tools to centralize control while distributing the printing of labels and posters.

Automate print jobsSAP Label and Poster Printing by GK lets you automatically trigger print jobs whenever you make changes to key data within your mer-chandise management software. For example, if you change pricing data in one of your SAP for Retail solutions, the printing software can execute prioritized processes that print new materials at the appropriate stores.

The SAP software configures each print job using parameters such as paper size and selection, fonts, graphical setup, and align-ment of text and picture blocks. Sophisticated rules allow detailed mapping of data to spe-cific design layouts and stores. In addition, the rules can identify the preferred print output, such as electronic shelf labels, posters, or digital signage, as well as paper type or stock.

You can also use the application to schedule print jobs based on promotional or other calendars.

Your store employees should be helping customers, not printing labels. SAP software can help.

Manage and monitor print jobsAuthorized users can manually initiate print jobs on an ad hoc basis, either from the back office or using connected devices on the store floor. The software manages these jobs using the same prioritization and logic as the cen-trally triggered jobs.

Retailers can also initiate jobs centrally while allowing local users to select from pre-approved printing parameters. For example, when printing a job initiated by the headquarters office, an authorized store employee can choose among preapproved paper stocks or templates.

Intuitive monitoring options enable process supervision from both individual stores and headquarters. For example, backoffice users can review print queue archives to identify failed jobs that must be reactivated. When mal functions or errors occur, the software re-ports any problems and immediately reroutes affected print jobs to minimize disruption.

Builtin intelligence consolidates print re-quests. This feature delivers consistent print output and execution without duplication, even when multiple people or processes inadvertently trigger the same job.

Make technology work for youSAP Label and Poster Printing by GK includes technology features that simplify printing management. Based on an open interface concept, the software can adopt the print templates generated by other label printing solutions. This feature helps minimize migra-tion costs and preserves the use of existing design layouts, helping you quickly integrate your templates into the software.

The application is based on Java and uses internationally accepted opensoftware standards. Because it is compliant with

serviceoriented architectures, the software enables the use of components as Web ser-vices. You can also use the software to call existing Web services.

Because the software addresses all critical printing processes, you can reduce hardware and software licensing costs. Each store requires only a network printer or a printer connected to a nondedicated backoffice computer for local printing. Stores need no layout or database software, permanent data storage, or thirdparty software.
