Thank you to everyone who has donated books to our lending library;

we started this library with over 900 books! The children are loving it.

Thank you also to the Princeton Team of staff who were instrumental

in this library from conception to daily maintenance. Your hard work

has not gone unnoticed!

Elementary School Attendance REALLY Matters

Did you know?

Research shows that missing 10% of school or about 18 days in

most school districts, negatively affect a student’s academic

performance. That’s just 2 days per month!

For every day of school missed, it takes three days to make

up what was taught.

By middle and high school, chronic absence is a leading warning sign that a student

will drop out.

What can parents and guardians do?

Set a regular bed time and morning routine.

Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a

stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay

home.

If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors,

or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited

about learning.

Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up ahead of time.

Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Mindfulness for Children: A Guide for Parents and Guardians Survey

Thank you to all parents and guardians that have already participated in the Mindful-

ness survey. If you haven’t already, please spare a quick moment to take the short sur-

Ever Green Team Update

The Princeton Ever Green Team made ornaments from recycled materials during the

month of November. Last Friday, the team participated in the Santa Shop displaying the

ornaments and accepting a donation for purchase. The team raised approximately $170

that will be used toward the adoption of an endangered animal at the Detroit Zoom.

More details to come. Special thanks to Ever Green Team members Shelby, Lillian and Kas-

sady and their parents for volunteering to oversee the table.

Ever Green Tips:

Install a programmable thermostat. Forgetting to turn off the AC or heat, or change tem-

perature when away from home or asleep is easy to do. A programmable thermostat al-

lows you to regulate the temperature of your home by creating different settings for cer-

tain times of the day. The programmable thermostat will also help you save on heating

and cooling costs.

Unplug power tools in your workshop. Many cordless tools remain plugged in yet are used

very little. Cordless drills often get more use. Unplugging those cordless tools that are not

often used can be an energy saver. Most cordless tools have a nickel cadmium battery,

which will hold some charge for up to a year.

Enroll in online statements and billing. Reducing the amount of mail you receive can im-

pact the environment by reducing the number of trees cut down, reduction in the

amount of automobile and airplane exhaust in the atmosphere, and reduces the need for

ink. It also reduces the amount of paper that ends up in landfills.
