Student Reuter lampThis simple, high intensity light is very suitable for experiments with lenses, prisms and optical gratings. The light source itself is a small festoon lamp with the filament aligned with the sup-porting rod making it easy to position on an optical bench. The long, narrow filament is ideal for performing experiments with lens optics and gratings. The lamp housing is supplied with a cooling fan which keeps the housing cool enough to touch even though the lamp is rated at 15 watts of electrical power.

Experiment lampThis lamp emits a bright beam of light, ideal for many types of experiments and demonstrations. Focus and filament position are easily adjusted. Provided with safety jack connectors and a Ø 10 mm mounting rod for use on an optical bench or with a laboratory stand. A 50 W halogen lamp is included.During operation the lamp housing is ventilated by means of a built-in ventilator, so the surface temperature of the housing will not exceed 60 °C.The Reuter Lamp has both a bi-pin socket for halogen lamps 12 V/50 W (item no. 4270.10) and a bayonet socket for 12 V/35 W lamps (item no. 4265.40). Length: 310 mm. Width: 76 mm. Height: 105 mm (excluding mounting rod).Power supply needed: 12 V AC/DC, minimum 3 A (35 W lamp) or 4.2 A (50 W lamp).

3000.00 Prism, hollow 60°

Sugar prismThe sugar prism is used for measuring the sugar concentration in liquids, e.g. juice. Using a number of reference solutions with known sugar content one can compare the refraction of light, e.g. a laser beam, of reference samples and an unknown solu-tion. Supplied with complete instructions for student projects and experiments.

Light refraction tankThis Plexiglas tank is supplied with plane parallel sides. One of the corners in the bottom is cut off at a 45° angle to facilitate the entry of light rays. It is ideal for optical experiments with refraction and (total) reflection. To make the light rays visible in the water, a small amount of chalk powder can be suspended in the liquid. If the light source is white light or a blue or violet laser like our 1420.95, a little fluorescein will give very good results. To make the rays visible in the air above the water, blow a little smoke into the tank.Size: 370 x 130 x 150 mm.

Sodium fluoresceinWhen hit by shortwave light, fluorescein lights up with a bright yellowish hue. It is useful for showing the path of a light ray in a transparent liquid. Visible light or a blue or violet laser beam can be used. Sodium fluorescein can be supplied either as a powder or in solution.

Grating model, set of 4 kitsIt can sometimes be difficult for students to visualize the optical diffraction grating. Standard gratings have very small gratings constants making the lines invisible to the naked eye. Using machine screws and 0.30 mm nylon line it is possible to produce your own simple optical grating. With a laser beam and a distance of 6 to 10 meters from the grating to a projection screen it is possible to clearly see the diffraction pattern caused by this large spacing grating. This device provides students with a clearly visible example of an operating optical grating.

He-Ne laser The laser emits light with a wavelength of 632.8 nanometres. The emitted light is coherent, i.e. wave fronts propagate in the same phase over a large distance compared with ordinary light sources. The emitted light is highly directional and the beam diameter at the laser is about 0.5 mm increasing very gradually at increasing distances from the laser. The light emitted is not uniformly polarized but changes its polarization at random around the direction of propagation. Light from the laser is ideal for demonstrations of optical interference. If a line grating is placed in the laser beam, the interference pattern will be clearly visible on a projection screen. The laser can be used for a wide range of applications in optics, communication etc.

Ultraviolet radiation

Ultraviolet light - properties and hazardsThis equipment has been designed to illustrate the many inte-resting properties of ultraviolet light using protective film, clear film, ordinary glass and a Schott UV filter. Also useful for investigating skin protective sun cream.

the set comprises:

– UVA lamp no. 2871.00– UVA probe no. 2872.00– Accessory kit no. 2872.10 with filters and other materials

including fluorescent and phosphorescent plates.

Complete instructions included.

SAFETY NOTE: The light source is a UVA lamp emitting most UV radiation in the range 350-400 nm with a maximum around 370 nm. These wavelengths pose a minimum risk to eyes and skin, and the radiation does not generate harmful ozone.

Additional equipment needed

2515.60 battery box

3867.50 demonstration multimeter or any digital multimeter, e.g. 3862.15.

UVA lampThis UVA lamp emits both spectral light (4 lines from the mercury spectrum) and a band of UV light in the range from 350 nm to 400 nm. The UV lamp is supplied with an ordinary power plug (for direct connection to mains power). Dimensions: 190 x 75 x 75 mm.

Phosphorescent plateLike 3075.00 but measures 70 x 95 mm. Unmounted.

3075.10 Phosphorescent plate

Fluorescent plateThis plate exhibits fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet light. In contrast to phosphorescent materials where visible light emission persists some time after exposure to the UV, fluorescent materials re-emit visible light only during exposure. Apparatus for the study of light energyUsed to determine the energy efficiency of an incandescent lamp. Apart from the lamp, the container contains a resistor (with the same resistance as the lamp). The container is filled with water and the amount of energy that is converted into heat is calculated from the temperature incre-ase of the system. The part of the electric energy that doesn’t heat the water must have radiated away from the system.Dimensions: Height 120 mm, diameter 70 mm.
