I hope you don’t get tired of me saying this, but let me encourage you to stay with us in this year’s reading plan. It’s still not too late to start or too far to get caught up. It’s only five days of reading each week. Each day’s reading is typically about two chapters. Make this spiritual discipline a part of your daily routine. Let this study be a spiritual rally point for your family too. If you are on track with us, we are working through Week 4 in the reading plan. This week’s readings will focus primarily on Jacob and Esau. As I mentioned in my last two sermons, Jacob means “he grasps the heel” or “deceiver,” and as you read, you’ll see that Jacob lives up to his name. Likewise, Esau means “hairy,” and he also lives up to his name. Every time I read about the dysfunction of this family, I am reminded that God still worked out his plan. That’s a comforting reminder to me to know that God’s plan is not hindered by my imper-fections and shortfalls. His plan is not dependent on me being perfect. That knowledge doesn’t give me a license to do whatever I want, but it comforts me to know that God is sovereign, even over my mistakes. Without His grace, I am nothing and would be utterly hopeless. At the end of the week, you will be introduced to Jacob’s son, Joseph. Even though Joseph is the primary character for the remainder of Genesis, he is not the son that God will use to continue the lineage of Jesus. That distinction belongs to another one of Jacob’s sons, Judah. When you read about how Judah treated Joseph, remember that God’s plan was not hindered by his choices. This upcoming Sunday morning, we’ll learn more about Joseph and how God used his difficult circumstances to bring about good. Keep reading! Stay strong! Have a blessed week! In Christ, Jason

A Message from Carter’s Corner This week in the life of our youth, we have a very special event planned for Wednesday, January 25! Our local FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) will be having a big event at NEMCC in Seth Pounds auditorium. Our local FCA is under the direction of Scott Carter. Scott has a strong conviction to spread the gospel to students in both high school and middle school. This week, in addition to FCA having a program on Wednesday, the organization plans to have a school assembly and will share about the Gospel and about FCA in every school in Prentiss County this week. FCA strives not only to bring the gospel to athletes, but to every high school student. At their event on Wednesday, they will have Steve Grant to speak and bring a word of testimony, as well as present the gospel. Steve is a former Indianapolis Colts player and also played college football at West Virginia. Steve is passionate about reaching high school and middle school students for Christ. We ask that you pray specifically for the upcoming Wednesday as we travel to NEMCC at Seth Pounds Auditorium to worship with our local FCA. Also, please be in prayer for our upcom-ing Valentine Banquet on February 12 at 6:00 p.m. This upcoming event will be in our gym and all proceeds will go toward our upcoming Youth Choir Mission Trip to Seattle.

MISSION OPPORTUNITIES Gift Cards for William Carey University
By now, you likely have seen the devastation from last week’s tornado at William Carey University. Numerous churches and agencies have already begun efforts to raise money and send volunteers to assist them in their recovery. Dr. Tommy King, President of William Carey University, has expressed the need for gift cards to be given to students. To support our fellow Mississippi Baptists, we would to collect Walmart gift cards or gift cards to popular fast-food restaurants and mail them to the university. If you would like to donate to this cause, we would encourage you to purchase the gift cards ($10-$25) and bring them by the church office. Because this is a time-sensitive effort, our first shipment of gift cards will be Monday, January 30. Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to extend the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters in Hattiesburg.
