Schools have won games against FBS opponents in back-to-back seasons 11 different times: UNI (1985-86); Youngstown State (1997-98); UNI (1998-99); Western Illinois (1999-00); Western Illinois (2002-03); Southern Illinois (2006-07); North Dakota State (2010-11-12-13-14); and Western Illinois (2016-17). In 2012, North Dakota State became the only league team to beat an FBS opponent three-straight years (and that streak is currently six in a row).

In 2012, Illinois State (at Eastern Michigan) and North Dakota State (at Colorado State), defeated FBS schools on the same date (Sept. 8, 2012). It marked the third time in league history that MVFC teams posted multiple FBS wins on the same date (2001 and 2007 were the other years.)

In 2016, the MVFC established a league record with 4 wins against FBS schools in the same season. Illinois State beat Northwestern, North Dakota State beat Iowa, UNI defeated Iowa State, and Western Illinois topped Northern Illinois.
