ACTION PROGRESS COMMENTS: Highlights; Public Libraries Australia conducted a 'what do you love most about your local public library?' survey and Margaret River Library received a lovely accolade... Public libraries rock! Books are my first love but libraries are about more than books. They are about connections within your local community. It might sound corny but this makes the world a much better place. (Margaret River, WA) There were also some really great, positive comments made on Facebook for Margaret River Library... 'How good is the Margaret River Library! It is a really gorgeous space with incredible staff. Very impressed' 'The best library in the state' … we ended up with over 50 likes!! It is really nice to be appreciated by our customers. Technology and Training; • PrinterOn (WiFi printing) training for staff is completed and instruction sheets for patrons have been developed and made available at both libraries. • Staff training on the functionality of the Envisionware PC Reservation web booking module was conducted so that they can assist patrons as needed. • All online services instruction documents have been updated. • Training of patrons continues as required while patrons become accustomed to the new Library Management System and Catalogue. • Assistant Manager Deb Rigby attended a training session at SLWA to learn the used exchange selection process. This is a quarterly task that is shared between ALM and Library Manager. • Deb attended the Public Libraries WA (PLWA) Conference in Perth in March. Impressive array of international speakers including Bernard Salt, Nigel Okey, Corrinne Hill, Rachael van Riel and Inga Lunden. Volunteers; • Four new volunteers have been inducted to the library this this quarter with Margaret Affleck and Gabe Adams starting on shelving and shelf-checking duties one hour per week as well as Katherine Auld and Kelsey Campbell. • Our volunteer Michael Wise has been busy assisting patrons with our printing facilities. • Carol Donkersloot consistently has bookings for teaching computing to seniors.

Heather Auld - Manager Library Services

01-Jul-2014 30-Jun-2015 70.00% 70.00%

ACTION PROGRESS COMMENTS: New services introduced this quarter; ‘PrinterOn’ WiFi mobile print service has been implemented enabling print jobs to be sent to the Margaret River Library 24/7 from any internet-connected device. Print jobs are held in the system for 48 hours and can be printed during library open hours at the DIY Print Release Station. In partnership with SLWA two new e-resources have been implemented; 1. Zinio e-magazines; patrons can now use their library membership to download e-magazines from any internet device 2. Bolinda BorrowBox e-audio; has been assessed for compatibility via EZproxy, and patrons can now use their library membership to download from any internet device. A digital frame with slideshow of documents has been set up at the Front Counter to replace the printed signs. In order to keep up with the rising demand for public internet access, the PC formerly designated as a PC Reservation station has been reconfigured and is now available to be used by patrons as a Public Internet PC at the Margaret River Library. PC Reservation Web Booking module has been reconfigured and is now available via links from the Library Service websites so patrons can make PC bookings at the Margaret River Library iPAC PCs and on any device that connects to the internet. Due to heavy demand for our printing, scanning and faxing service, we are investigating the viability of purchasing an Envisionware scan-to-email device, which may reduce queues and waiting times for patrons. 'Beamafilm' – online film streaming subscription for patrons being reviewed and assessed. Attended WA WMS User Group inaugural brainstorm session with WA libraries and commenced monthly user group meetings to facilitate learning outcomes for the new library management system.

ACTION PROGRESS COMMENTS: Children's activities at the Shire libraries in Quarter 3. February saw the start of our regular weekly children's activities such as Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime. Toddler Tales also began again for 2015 at Augusta library and families were happy to have the regular programs running for the new year.

We also started a new program at both libraries called the Hairy Tales of Heroboy, an initiative of the State Library of WA. Heroboy is another program that rewards frequent borrowers at the shire libraries over 7 years of age by giving them sets of cards that can be collected to make a story and game. A concerted effort has been made by the Children's services librarian to promote our online tutoring service Your Tutor. We have utilised the library blog and contacts with all local school communities via their school newsletters.

ACTION PROGRESS COMMENTS: The Cocoon gallery for emerging artists hosted 2 artists this quarter. The Margaret River Regional Environment Centre with the Save Mowen Forest Group conducted a photographic competition and displayed the entries in the library and Cocoon Gallery. They hosted an evening launch which was opened by Dr Beth Schultz from WA Forest Alliance in Perth. Kyllie Deltondo presented “Connect”, a selection of prints in the Cocoon gallery for Feb and March. She held an evening launch with guest speaker Kay Gibson officially opening the exhibition. This has been the most successful exhibition so far, for number of sales. Major displays this quarter have been the Cultural Centre precinct, Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival and Fireballs in the sky. Fireballs in the sky is a visual exhibition presented by Curtin University that will travel to public libraries throughout the State in 2015. The display promotes the use of an app to encourage the public to get involved in documenting sightings. It has been advertised through the school network locally through their newsletters. Author talks this quarter included Nina Smith in February with her latest fantasy fiction novel and Anita Revel in March with a presentation about using the oracle cards and being self-published. Comments from the feedback forms include: “Excellent presentation. Thank you library for providing the event and inviting different variety of authors”. “Excellent, so glad I made an effort to come along…I learned a lot and the subject relates to me. Thank you so much.” “A fun, well presented evening. Anita you are very inspiring and knowledgeable. Thanks for a great night.” The library also hosted Italian author Andrea di Robilant in late February after his presentation at the Festival of Perth. This was a joint venture with the Margaret River Bookshop and local publisher, Margaret River Press. It proved a hugely popular event with lots of books sold and excellent feedback. Some of the comments included: “Wonderful talk – they just keep getting better” “Very interesting & enjoyable talk, has created a lot of enthusiasm for gardening” “Fascinating & enthralling” “Fantastic – please have more of these events” “Wonderful talk” At the end of March, the library hosted the Silverchain Day Centre seniors to a morning tea in the garden. They were after an alternative outing venue and claimed they had a wonderful time being treated to scones on the veranda, just a short walk next door from the centre. Promotions for Anzac are underway with an ongoing program called “Share your Anzac memories!” The promotion is to encourage the community to honour our war history by having them bring in memorabilia, written stories, or poems, with a view to displaying them in the library. A book display of war related material will run all year. Promotions to date have been to the newspaper and also radio interviews with the library manager on ABC radio.
