WAYS YOU CAN CONTINUE TO HELP

Since its grassroots beginning we have treated over 2000 children around the world. Our team of volunteers has worked tirelessly to achieve this goal.

Our last mission to India was in February 2011 and it was a very successful mission treating children with facial cleft lip and palate deformities and post-burn contractures as well. We had a mission planned on November 3 – 17th, 2012 to India but unfortunately we had issues with achieving working visas and hence had to postpone our mission until 2013.

On February 13 – 23, 2013 Operation Rainbow Canada will be going to Cambodia again not only to treat the children but also to teach the local physicians and nurses the techniques of surgery and nursing care as well. We are all set and ready to go and are in constant communication with Dr. Sarom in Cambodia.

Recently we had a publication in the Whistler Question by Tanya Foubert on Operation Rainbow Canada where we discussed our missions to China, Cambodia and India. Video clips are available on our website and on You Tube. Most of the professional mission photos and video footage were shot by one of our members, Gary Hanney, of Hanney Media

The missions would not happen without the efforts of board members in Canada, particularly Al and Rose Lane, who have been tirelessly working for Operation Rainbow Canada since its inception in 1998. Connie Ekelund, a great supporter of ORC, has helped us with our branding and marketing, including a new website, which has been Gold Certified. Rakesh Patel, our Treasurer, has been keeping our finances up to date; Gloria Wong, our new Board Secretary, has been very diligent and works hard to make the necessary changes and distribution of Operation Rainbow Canada’s work. All other Directors have been very supportive to establish our ongoing missions overseas.

I would like to thank all the volunteers of Operation Rainbow Canada and also all the supporters for their donations. It is because of your commitment that ORC can continue its valuable work.

With gratitude,

Dr. Kimit Rai

FUTURE MISSIONSWe are working with Father Tran of All Saints Parish in Port Coquitlam to establish a mission in Vietnam. Dr. Rai will be going from the Cambodia mission to visit the site in Vietnam with the view of arranging the future programs for Operation Rainbow Canada.

Dr. Rai is working with Dr. S. Uppal, a plastic surgeon, in Ludhiana at the medical school and is planning to consider a mission next fall to treat children with cleft lip and palate and post-burn contractures in that country. This would be an ongoing mission for the future and Dr. Bhanji would probably be involved in terms of processing the mission as team leader.

The two countries involved in future missions are India and Vietnam and hopefully they will have a successful outcome. In the meantime Operation Rainbow Canada is establishing future missions in a 4 year program with Cambodia.

Children with deformities are almost always alienated from society and restricted in their potential. Children with facial deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, are further marginalized because of the dramatic nature of these abnormalities.

Operation Rainbow Canada reaches out internationally by providing reconstructive surgery for these children and by sharing skills with local physicians.

Operation Rainbow Canada volunteers, supported by donors, proudly represent Canada and promote understanding of the needs of developing countries.

Operation Rainbow Canada has performed 2,000+ surgeries on 22 missions in various countries so far.

ORC missions have trained approximately 22 Plastic Residents, 19 Anesthesia Fellows and 12 Pediatric Residents (the Residents were sponsored by their respective training programs and Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons).
