1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE

1.1 Purpose

This procedure provides instructions for operation of the Canberra Alpha Sentry CAM

System.

1.2 Scope

This procedure is applicable to the Canberra Alpha Sentry CAM System. This system

includes the ASM 1000 Alpha Sentry Manager (ASM) and the 1700R CAM sampling

head (CAM head). Limits apply to entire procedure: 0 C to 50 C (32 F to 122 F) in a

controlled environment, 0% to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.

2.0 INFORMATION

3.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS

3.1 Equipment Safety

3.1.1 Detectors are sensitive to light interference. Conductive materials on the

detector face (such as pump exhaust, chemical vapors, and moisture) will

interfere with alpha particle detection.

3.1.2 The sampling head electronics are sensitive to radio frequency interference

(RFI) and AC line voltage spikes.

3.1.3 The thin metal radon rejection screen near the top of the CAM, if installed,

should not be touched with the bare hands to avoid transferring oils to the

screen.

3.2 Radiation and Contamination Control

3.2.1 When performed without a work package, this procedure is limited to

radiological areas and work activities permitted by a general radiological

work permit.

3.2.2 When work is performed in or when work will result in a high contamination,

high radiation, or an airborne radioactivity area, an approved work package

must be developed which is reviewed by Radiological Control per ALARA

work planning procedure TFC-ESHQ-RP_RWP-C-03.

3.3 Limits

Operating Limits

Unit operation is limited to the following:

0 C to 50 C (32 F to 122 F) in a controlled environment

0% to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.

Page 5: Operation of the Canberra Alpha Sentry CAM System · Operation of the Canberra Alpha Sentry CAM System Type CONTINUOUS Document No. TF-RC-045 Rev/Mod A-0 Release Date 09/05/2018 Page
