1 Introduction

Dear customer, thank you for your decision to purchase the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH.

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is a state-of-the-art device. Its convincing features are its high degree of economy, operator friendliness and operational safety.

To operate your compact ventilation unit safely, properly, and economically, please carefully read and comply with these operating instructions.

Use the ventilation unit only in perfect condition, in compliance with the intended use, in a manner that is safety and danger conscious and in compliance with all information provided in these instructions. If you have any queries or spare parts orders, please have the device type and serial number (see type plate on the device) at hand.

2 General

This section contains general information on the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH with the operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’, type ‘MINI’ or type ‘DESIGN’.

READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INITIAL STARTUP OF THE UNIT!

These instructions include directions and information on safe operation, correct installation, operator control and servicing of the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH. Apart from this they are intended to serve you as a reference document for service work so that this work can be performed in a responsible manner. Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place where they are always accessible.

Any interventions into or troubleshooting on the compact ventilation unit must be performed by a specialized installation company.

The unit is subject to constant improvement and further development so it is therefore possible that your unit differs slightly from this description.

Subject to change without notice. These instructions have been drawn up with the greatest care. However, no rights can be derived from them.

We constantly make every effort to make technical improvements to and optimizations of our products and reserve the right to partially or wholly modify the units or technical specifications without prior notice.

The current version of our ‘General Terms and Conditions of Trading’ apply to the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH.

The compact ventilation unit LG 180, system VENTECH, together with all the optional system components cited in this description, has been subjected by TÜV-AUSTRIA Services GmbH, Testing, Inspection and Certification Centre/ Vienna to a safety test and inspection in accordance with the relevant product requirements, standards and directives. According to test reports no. 2009-ET/PZW-EX-0661 and no. M/EMV-09/225 of 16/12/2009 the requirements of the applicable test points with the optional system accessories have been met subject to the proviso of observance and compliance with all the requirements described in these instructions.

2.1 Use in compliance with the intended use

2.1.1 Intended use

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is suitable for installation in ventilation systems for the controlled mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation of apartments and rooms with similar purposes, e.g. seminar rooms and small offices with a maximum air volume flow rate of 180 m³/h.

The entire living area is provided with supply air and exhaust air ventilation by installing a mechanical, controlled ventilation system for apartments. In this process there is a controlled air supply with conditioned and filtered outdoor air in the supply air zones. Odours and humid indoor extract air is discharged in the extract air zone.

The purpose of this controlled mechanical supply and exhaust air ventilation of apartments is to improve the air quality, reduce the heating energy requirement by using a highly efficient heat recovery system and influence the indoor air humidity.

The area of application and use of the unit in compliance with the intended use is restricted to use in ventilation systems for the extraction of used air and the supply of fresh, temperature-conditioned outdoor air at maximum delivered media temperatures of between -15 °C and +35 °C. Furthermore, the delivered air must be free of corrosive fumes and wear-enhancing substances.

Any other application is regarded as being misuse. The manufacturer rejects all responsibility for any damage or consequential damage resulting from such use.

Use in compliance with the intended use also includes compliance with the operating and installation instructions prescribed by us.

This unit, which is accessible for the general public, is intended for installation in residential or commercial buildings. The unit is used for the mechanical supply and exhaust air ventilation of indoor air and in connection with a heater battery it is also used for the purpose of air reheating.

This device is not intended to be used by people (including children) with limited physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or with a lack of suitable experience and/or knowledge, unless supervised by a person who is responsible for their safety or from whom they receive instructions on how to use the device.

The unit is not suitable for installation in the open air and must be installed in suitable and temperature-controlled indoor rooms. This ventilation unit is not suitable for drying out new buildings.

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is not a ready-to-use product. It must not be put into operation until it has been properly installed and connected in the ventilation system. Only qualified, authorized personnel may work on and with the unit.

Personnel who transport or work on the unit must have read and understood the operating instructions, in particular Section 3 ‘Safety instructions’. In addition, the end user has to be informed of any dangers that might occur.

2.1.2 Stipulations for operation with fireplaces

If indoor air dependent fireplaces are being used at the same time, the safety regulations and standards have to be complied with by the system erector/installer. In the case of indoor air dependent fireplaces the combustion air supply for the fireplace has to be provided separately.

The ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH may only be installed in rooms, apartments and user units of a comparable size in which indoor air dependent fireplaces are installed, if the simultaneous operation of indoor air dependent fireplaces for liquid or gaseous fuels and of the apartment’s ventilation system is prevented or the exhaust gas conveyance of the indoor air dependent fireplace is monitored by special safety devices.

If the partial vacuum pressure in the installation room of the fireplace is more than 4 Pa lower than the external pressure, it must be ensured that the extract air system switches off automatically and dependably.

2.1.3 Stipulations in connection with extractor hoods

On account of the heavy load and irregular operation the extract air of any kitchen extractor hood present must not be integrated into the apartment’s ventilation system. The extract air from such extractor hoods is conducted separately by means of an exhaust air pipe via the roof. The supply air is provided separately, e.g. via the window ventilation.

If an extractor hood is being operated without separate introduction of the supply air, the air volume balance in the apartment is no longer balanced and the proper functioning of the apartment’s ventilation system is not ensured (odour entrainment etc.). Another possibility is to operate the extractor hood in recirculation mode.

2.2 Liability

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH was developed and manufactured for installation in a controlled mechanical supply and exhaust air ventilation system for apartments and rooms with a similar purpose, such as seminar rooms and small offices.

Any other use is considered to be an improper use and can lead to personal injury or damage to the compact ventilation unit LG 180, for which the manufacturer cannot be held liable. In the event of the following the manufacturer is liable for no damage whatsoever:

non-compliance with the safety, operating and servicing instructions listed in these operating andinstallation instructions

the installation of spare parts that have not been supplied by the manufacturer, whereby theresponsibility for the use of such spare parts lies fully with the installer.

2.3 Warranty

The warranty begins with initial startup, at the latest, however, one month after delivery has taken place. The warranty covers the pure replacement of materials only and does not include any claims for the compensation of services. It applies only if there is proof of appropriately performed servicing in accordance with our regulations and by a licensed company that specializes in installation work.

2.4 Warranty stipulations

The warranty right extends to a maximum term of 24 months after installation of the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH, however, up to a maximum of 30 months after the manufacturing date.

Warranty claims can be asserted only for material and/or design defects that have occurred during the warranty term. In the event of a warranty claim the compact ventilation unit LG 180 must not be dismantled without the previous written authorization of the manufacturer. The manufacturer accords a warranty on spare parts only if they have been installed by an installer who is recognized by the manufacturer.

The warranty shall lapse automatically upon expiry of the warranty period, in the event of improper operation, e.g. operation without a filter, if genuine parts supplied by the manufacturer are not installed, in the event of non-authorized changes or modifications that have been performed on the system.

Failure to comply with these Operating and Installation Instructions will automatically void all warranties.

3 Safety

Read these operating and installation instructions carefully and observe the safety instructions for installation work, initial startup, general work and service work on the unit.

Store the operating and installation instructions in the immediate vicinity of the unit for its entire service life.

Follow at all times the safety regulations, warning notices, comments and directions set out in these operating instructions.

The specifications stated in this document must not be changed.

Non-compliance with these safety regulations, warning notices, comments and instructions can lead to bodily injury or damage to the compact ventilation unit.

To ensure that the unit is checked at regular intervals, it is recommended that a service contract be concluded. Your supplier can provide you with the addresses of recognized installers in your vicinity.

3.1 Symbols used

The following safety symbols indicate text passages that warn against dangers and sources of danger. Please familiarize yourself with these symbols.

3.2 Safety regulations

3.2.1 General

The installation, initial startup, servicing and repair must be performed by an authorized expert (company specializing in heating/installation work).

Above and beyond these operating and installation instructions, the national regulations and standards apply without limitation for the operation of the unit.

After installation arrange for yourself to be instructed by your installer on the machine and on the operator control unit.

Use of the ventilation unit may only take place in accordance with the use set out in point 2.1 ‘Use in compliance with the intended use’.

All safety and danger notices attached to the unit must be observed. In the event of any malfunctions, shut down the unit immediately and secure it suitably against being switched back on. Malfunctions must be eliminated immediately.

After any repair work the operational safety of the unit has to be created again by a proficient person.

The attachment or installation of additional equipment is not permitted. Any modifications or changes to the compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH are prohibited. Only genuine spare parts may be used.

Changes to or conversions of the ventilation unit are not permitted and release the manufacturer from any warranty and liability whatsoever.

Make sure that children do not play with the unit.

3.2.2 Setting up the unit

The national and local regulations must be observed for installation and setup.

The unit must be installed only in compliance with the national installation regulations.

Installation shall be performed in accordance with the general, locally valid construction, safety and installation regulations of the appropriate local authority or of the water and electricity company and other institutions.

The unit may be installed only in frost-free and dry rooms. The room temperature in the room of installation must be permanently between a minimum of +5 °C and a maximum of +40 °C.

The ventilation unit has to be installed on a sufficiently load-bearing and flat wall or ceiling. No vibrations must be allowed to affect the unit.

A suitable water drainage with an effective odour trap has to be considered for the discharge of any condensate incurred while the unit is in operation.

The installation of water, heating and condensate connections may only be performed by a skilled person. The tightness and effective drainage for the condensate have to be ensured by suitable installation and execution so as to exclude any damage to the building. The condensate drainage has to be checked for operability by means of an on-site inspection prior to initial startup and after any servicing work.

The permitted maximum expectable load has to be heeded for transportation of the unit.

Parts of the ventilation system, e.g. air pipes, that may be installed in non-heated areas, must be designed with suitable insulation to prevent heat loss or condensate build-up (when the temperature drops below the dewpoint temperature).

Take heed of any construction and fire prevention stipulations, regulations and standards that apply locally. Appropriate suitable measures for erection of the unit, e.g. the installation of fire dampers in air pipes etc., may have to be taken.

3.2.3 Electrical connection work

Electrical connection work and work on the electrical parts of the system may be performed only by authorized skilled electricians in compliance with national and local regulations.

Before opening the unit and for all work on the unit, e.g. servicing work and repairs, the unit has to be switched to voltage-free (all power supply poles have to be disconnected) and for the duration of the work must be secured against being switched back on.

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is designed for a voltage supply of 230 V/50 Hz. The unit is not designed for connection to a three-phase network with 400 V/50 Hz.

Any working method that impairs the safety of the unit must be refrained from. For the sake of safe operation the safety devices must not be dismantled or put out of operation.

The electrical equipment and the warning and protection devices of the unit have to be regularly checked for perfect operability. In the event of any malfunctions in the electrical power supply or any defects that are ascertained, e.g. loose connections or burnt cables, the unit has to be switched off immediately.

If the mains connection lead of the unit is damaged or defective, it must be repaired immediately to avoid danger.

Only genuine fuses with the prescribed current strength and dimensions may be used.

Operation of the unit is prohibited until safe operation of the system has been re-created.

Determination of the cause of defects that occur and their immediate elimination must be performed by authorized skilled electricians.

After the performance of any electrical work the protection measures on the unit must be checked (e.g. earthing resistance etc.).

Operation of the ventilation unit is permitted only if all requisite connections in conjunction with the envisaged built-in parts, e.g. silencers etc., have been properly made.

Upon the occurrence of any defects or damage that are able to injure people or damage property, the system has to be put out of operation immediately. Further use must be effectively prevented until a complete repair has taken place!

In the event of error messages or damage the ventilation unit has to be switched off immediately and disconnected from the mains.

When unscrewing the front panel or removing cover plates you must behave in a safety conscious and danger conscious manner. Refrain from any manner of working that impairs the safety of the unit.

Operation of the unit is permitted only with the air line connected and system components such as silencers attached, with a minimum lead length of 1000 mm, to ensure that the fans cannot be touched by hand.

The ventilation unit must be operated only in compliance with the project documents. These must comply with the equipment and product safety act and with the relevant applicable stipulations of the EC directives and standards.

Take into consideration the ambient influences and do not install the ventilation unit in the vicinity of combustible liquids or gases, in swimming pools or in areas subject to the influence of chemicals.

3.2.4 Operation of the system

In the event of a filter change on the compact ventilation unit LG 180 System VENTECH that part of the unit’s cover that can only be opened with a tool (Phillips screwdriver) must not be opened. The fans and the electrical system of the ventilation unit are positioned behind this screwed-on cover.

Never operate the ventilation unit without an air filter. The air filters have to be regularly checked for dirt and damage and cleaned or replaced as necessary. The air filters have to be replaced at least every six months or if the message ‘filter change’ appears on the operator control unit. Use only genuine spare filters. If the system is not in operation in the summer, for hygienic reasons the air filters have to be replaced before putting it back into operation.

If there is simultaneous operation of the ventilation unit with indoor air dependent fireplaces, the safety regulations and standards have to be complied with. In the case of indoor air dependent fireplaces the combustion air supply has to be provided separately. On this subject see the stipulations in point 2.1.2 ‘Stipulations for operation with fireplaces’.

On account of the heavy load and irregular operation, under no circumstances may extractor hoods be integrated into the extract air or exhaust circuit of the air handling unit. On this subject see the stipulations in point 2.1.3 ‘Stipulations for connection with extractor hoods’. Exhaust air extractor hoods must be operated via separate air lines subject to consideration of suitable air replenishment, e.g. through a window or in recirculation mode.

4 Functioning of the ventilation system

4.1 System description

In the case of mechanically controlled apartment ventilation the consumed, humid extract air from the wet rooms of the apartment, e.g. bathroom, toilet and kitchen, is discharged and replaced by conditioned, fresh and filtered air in the residential areas such as the lounge, bedrooms and other living areas.

A high energy saving with continuous operation of the system can be realized by using a high efficiency heat exchanger for recovery of the heat from the extract air to the supply air using power efficient fans with the latest DC technology for the controlled air flows.

The more airtight building shells are designed and the more effectively a residential house is insulated, the more this technology is worth it. Heat recovery efficiencies of up to 92 % provide for high efficiency energy saving.

It has to be taken into consideration in particular that the heat exchanger is secured by means of a suitably controlled frost protection strategy and an effective condensate discharge is ensured.

4.2 Possibilities of system expansions for frost protection

The danger of freezing on the exhaust air face on the heat exchanger exists in particular in the winter months when there is medium to heavy frost, depending on the extract air temperature and air humidity. At low outdoor air temperatures, as of about -4 °C, the heat

exchanger has to be protected against icing by means of suitable measures.

Various systems can be used for defrost monitoring of the heat exchanger. The possible protection strategies against freezing are as follows:

4.2.1 Earth heat exchanger

Optimal frost protection in the presence of cold outdoor air temperatures can be realized by the integration of an earth heat exchanger into the ventilation system. No additional components, e.g. a PTC preheater integrated into the ventilation unit, are necessary for this.

In summer mode the cooling contribution of the earth heat exchanger is very limited due to the low air exchange and is only slightly perceivable for the user.

The following information has to be heeded for design of the earth heat exchanger:

Watertight pipes are laid underground at frost-free depth, in consideration of the cleanability ofthe system

The design guidelines of the manufacturer have to be complied with

A condensate drainage system has to be provided

If the air line is routed through an external wall, attention has to be paid to effective sealingagainst moisture ingress

To avoid frost damage, a sufficient distance from other components such as water pipes,foundations etc. has to be maintained when laying

In the event of polluted soil (e.g. radon incidence) the possibility of indirect preheating, e.g. acircuit system with a frost protected heat transfer medium should be used by preference

Earth heat exchangers must be carefully planned and executed with respect to their energy efficiency and air hygiene. The relevant directives and standards have to be complied with.

In particular, among other things, attention has to be paid to easy cleanability and a suitable filter concept.

The support of an earth heat exchanger (EHE) with a switchable flap must be self-activated in the ventilation unit. This is performed with the aid of the PC software. To activate the support of an earth heat exchanger, please read Section 7 ‘Power unit’ in this documentation.

EHE winter mode: The earth heat exchanger is engaged via the switchable flap when the outdoor air temperature drops below the parameterized EHE winter threshold value. In this case the outdoor air is drawn in via the earth heat exchanger and preheated in the process. If the outdoor temperature (optional sensor T5 necessary) drops below the EHE winter parameter, relay 1 switches on the earth heat exchanger (EHE).

EHE summer mode In the summer the earth heat exchanger is engaged when the outdoor temperature rises above the parameterized EHE summer threshold value. In this case the outdoor air that is drawn in is precooled via the earth heat exchanger. If the outdoor temperature (optional sensor T5 necessary) exceeds the EHE summer parameter, relay 1 switches on the earth heat exchanger (EHE).

4.2.2 Brine earth heat with an optional cooling function

With brine earth heat systems the energy is drawn in the winter from the earth via a brine line, in the summer the system is also usable for cooling purposes. The heat or cold is indirectly transferred to the supply air via an external air battery integrated into the air line system.

Compared to other frost protection strategies such as electric preheater batteries or hot water preheater batteries, brine earth heat systems have the advantage that they can make do with little energy when in operation. The advantages compared to air duct/earth heat exchangers lie in the hygienic aspects, in the simpler laying and also good controllability.

In the event of polluted soil (e.g. radon incidence) it is preferential to use indirect preheating, e.g. a circuit system with a frost protected heat transfer medium.

The design guidelines of the manufacturer have to be complied with. The brine heater battery has to be protected against contamination by an external air filter integrated into the air line system that has a filter quality class of at least G4.

The basic system components are shown in the following diagram:

The automatic triggering of the brine pump is performed as a function of the outdoor air temperature.

The support of a brine earth heat exchanger (EHE) must be activated in the ventilation unit. This takes place with the aid of PC software. To activate the support of a brine earth heat system, please read Section 7 ‘Power unit’ in this documentation.

Brine earth heat winter mode: If the outdoor temperature (optional sensor T5 necessary) drops below the EHE winter parameter, relay 1 switches on the brine pump.

Brine earth heat summer mode: If the outdoor temperature (optional sensor T5 necessary) exceeds the EHE summer parameter, relay 1 switches on the brine pump.

4.2.3 PTC low temperature preheater battery factory setting

The ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is optionally available with an integrated (not passive house certified) or external electrical PTC preheater battery. If an optional preheater battery is connected, the cold outdoor air is preheated via the integrated electrical PTC low temperature heater battery.

With this operating mode a balanced air volume flow is ensured between the supply air and

extract air for the defrosting time period!

Frost protection via preheater battery:

the preheater battery is enabled at an outdoor air intake temperature of less than -4 °C

If the exhaust air temperature drops below the ‘defrost On’ parameter or if the temperaturedifference between the extract air and supply air exceeds the ‘defrost difference’ parametersetting, the preheater battery is switched on and remains in switched-on condition for thedefrost period.

If the exhaust air temperature exceeds the parameter ‘defrost On’ by 15 K, the preheater batteryis switched off prematurely.

If the preheater battery switches off, a pause time (‘defrost pause’ parameter) is loaded. Thedefrost procedure is suppressed during the pause time.

If the unit is switched off and the preheater battery was previously active, a fan after-run of120 seconds is performed.

4.2.4 Assurance of frost protection by lowering the supply air volume flow

CAUTION: This operating mode is not suitable for frost proofing in passive houses!

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is equipped as standard with automatic frost proofing for the heat exchanger by constantly reducing the supply air fan with a constant extract air volume flow. The condensate incurred in the heat exchanger is prevented from freezing in the heat exchanger by this measure.

With this operating mode a balanced air volume flow is not ensured between the supply air and extract air for the defrosting time period!

Frost protection via extract air defrosting:

The defrosting cycle is not activated at entry temperatures of over -4 °C

If the exhaust air temperature drops below the ‘defrost On’ parameter, the defrost function isstarted and the supply air fan is switched off. After the elapsed ‘defrost pause time’ therotational speed of the supply air fan is constantly increased.

Furthermore, the temperature difference between the extract air and supply air is monitored.The defrost process is activated when the value drops below the ‘defrost difference’ parametersetting.

4.3 System expansion for internal auxiliary heating

To raise the air outlet temperature for the living area, an internal auxiliary heater can be installed with the ventilation unit.

The operating mode external auxiliary heater is only active in winter mode!

4.3.1 With an internal electric fan heater

CAUTION: This is not suitable for residual heat supply in passive houses!

The supply air temperature can be raised by means of an external, optional two-stage electric heater battery, which is downline from the ventilation unit in the supply air line.

Setting of the setpoint for the temperature and acquisition of the room temperature is performed via the operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ and type ‘DESIGN’, into which the room temperature sensor is integrated. The temperature setpoint for the room temperature is settable within the range +15 °C to +35 °C.

This function is not possible with the operator control unit type ‘MINI’. The heater battery can only be operated at a constant supply air temperature, which is set to 21 °C. This can be deactivated by switching over to summer mode.

Regulation of the reheating is performed automatically on the basis of the preset room target temperature relative to the supply air temperature (xd = target – actual).

Minimum pause times are defined for the switching stages in order to minimize the switching frequency. Upon attainment of the switch-off point, switching stage 1 remains switched off for at least 30 seconds; switching stage 2 for at least 60 seconds. If the electrical reheater battery is active, a fan after-run of 120 seconds is performed upon switching off.

4.3.2 With an external hot water heater battery The supply air temperature can be raised by means of an external, optional water reheater battery with a 3-point mixer drive, which is downline from the ventilation unit in the supply air line.

Setting of the setpoint for the temperature and acquisition of the room temperature are performed via the operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ and type ‘DESIGN’, into which the room temperature sensor is integrated. The temperature setpoint for the room temperature is settable within the range +15 °C to +35 °C.

This function is not possible with the operator control unit type ‘MINI’.

The mixer running time and mixer cycle parameters are envisaged for adaptation of the mixer to the regulation system. The mixer operates in intermittent regulation mode. As a result, adjustment of the mixer is therefore performed only in the preset cycle sequence.

If the hot water heater battery is parameterized in the power unit (factory setting), input ‘E2’ is used as a potential-free contact. This contact is used for frost protection of the reheater battery. If this potential-free contact is made via an external temperature sensor that is set to a triggering temperature of +5 °C, the ventilation unit switches to frost protection and reports an error. This sensor is positioned directly in front of the external heater battery in the air line system. In this error status the mixer is open and the recirculation pump is activated. The fans are switched off until the frost danger message drops away again.

In addition the same frost protection strategy is used at a temperature of less than +5 °C at the integrated supply air sensor.

4.4 Ventilation unit

4.4.1 Description

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is used for the controlled mechanical supply and exhaust air ventilation of residential houses, larger residential units, offices and similar applications.

The range of use extends fundamentally to residential areas of 50 m² up to approx. 150 m², with a maximum achievable air volume flow of approx. 180 m³/h.

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH for a maximum air volume flow of 180 m³/h consists of a compact housing made of galvanized sheet steel that is free of thermal bridges and is thermally insulated, externally powder-coated in RAL 9010, a high efficiency heat recovery system with an air/air counterflow heat exchanger made of recyclable plastic with an efficiency rating of approx. 92 %, an automatic 100% bypass, with energy-saving radial fans with DC technology with constant volume flow control, air filters of quality class F7 in the supply air and G4 in the extract air line, internally cabled control electronics and with an optional ‘MINI’, ‘KOMFORT’ or ‘DESIGN’ remote control, for ceiling or wall-mounted installation in frost-free rooms.

1. Operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ and 1a. Operator control unit type ‘DESIGN’All settings for the ventilation unit are performed via the operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’ or ‘DESIGN’,which are installed in the living space. The current operational statuses and system values, e.g. operatingmode, fan speed, temperatures, etc., are shown on the four-digit display. The operator control unit ‘MINI’, which is installed in the living space, is for the purpose of easy triggering of the ventilation unit. Its greater operator friendliness allows manual setting of the fan speeds, switching between summer and winter modes, the setting of a basic volume flow, etc. Furthermore, operation and any faults or the operation of a reheater or preheater battery is displayed.

3. Power unit

The individual operating parameters are set by the skilled installer or service technician, matched to the relevant application on site, via the power unit installed in the ventilation unit. The settings are made either via the operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’ or by means of a PC interface and communication software.

4. Connecting lead Y(ST)Y2x2x0.64 (not included in the scope of supply)

A screened cable Y(ST)Y2x2x0.64 is required for communication between the operator control unit and the power unit. The connecting cable is not included in the scope of supply. The cable length must not be longer than 100 m. The plug connection to the power unit and to the operator control unit is by means of an IDE connector.

10. Frost protection heating with a PTC low temperature preheater battery (optional)

Is for the purpose of preventing the condensate from freezing in the heat exchanger when there are very cold outdoor temperatures. The outdoor air is preheated as a function of the outdoor air and exhaust air temperature via the optional electrical PTC low temperature preheater battery.

If a water battery or brine battery is used for frost protection the heat exchanger, the battery has to be protected in a suitable way against freezing when there is frost.

11. Bypass flap with an electro-thermal actuator

In summer mode this is for the purpose of deviating the air flow at the heat exchanger, when the outdoor temperature is lower than the room temperature.

12. PTC reheater battery (optional)

Is used for the purpose of reheating the supply air after egress from the counterflow heat exchanger. An additional heat input into the apartment can take place by this means.

13. Supply air fan

Ensures the air volume flow for the supply air; provides the living spaces with conditioned outdoor air.

14. Extract air fan

Ensures the air volume flow for the extract air; conveys the consumed air externally out of the apartment.

15. Front cover with a knurled screw fastener

The front cover is easy to open and remove for service work on the unit. When closing it, make sure of complete fastening and sufficient seal tightness between the front cover and the unit’s housing.

16. Air line connection

Is for the purpose of connection to the air line system. When installing, ensure correct connection to the supply, exhaust, outdoor air and exhaust air lines.

17. Cable leadthroughs

4.4.5 Dimensions

4.5 Safety devices

For the purpose of ensuring safe operation of the system the safety devices and covers must not be put out of service, bypassed or dismantled by any measures.

If any defects or damage to the ventilation system occur that are capable of endangering personnel or causing damage, the system has to be put out of operation immediately. Further use must be effectively prevented until a complete repair has taken place! Repair may only be performed by a skilled installer.

Overheating protection. A thermo-bimetal switch is installed as protection against overheating for the optionally integrated frost protection heater battery. Upon attainment of a temperature of + 50 °C the electricity supply to the electric heater is interrupted and the frost protection heating is switched off.

6 Operator control unit

6.1 General information

The settings made on the ventilation unit are performed via an operator control unit.

For the purpose of triggering and operating the ventilation unit the operator control unit ‘MINI’ can be selected optionally as a compact operator control unit for concealed mounting or the operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’ with an integrated room sensor for surface mounting or the operator control unit ‘DESIGN’. Easy operator control is ensured by the function buttons on the operator control unit. All important operating data are displayed. The signal lamps visualize the operating messages and fault messages.

Installation of the operator control unit is usually effected in the living space via a switch box, attention having to be paid to a suitable location. Thermal source areas, radiators, direct sunlight etc. have to be avoided on account of their temperature influence!

6.2 Operator control unit ‘MINI’

The compact operator control unit ‘MINI’ is characterized by the easy handling of the most important functions of this compact ventilation unit.

The fan speed of the ventilation unit is set and switched between ventilation and heating via this operator control unit. Filter change messages and any fault messages are indicated by the light emitting diodes provided for this purpose.

The air flow volumes of step I and II can be adjusted within a range via a combination of buttons, speed III is a fixed setting. In addition it can be switched between Off mode and basic ventilation.

6.2.1 Buttons and light emitting diodes of the operator control unit ‘MINI’ Operator control of the ventilation unit is effected via four buttons. The two buttons on the left-hand side switch over between ventilation and heating.

The two buttons on the right-hand side alter the fan step of the unit. The fan step is increased with the arrow up button until speed III is reached. The fan speed is reduced with the arrow down button. If the fan speed is less than I, depending on the setting, the unit either switches off or switches over to basic ventilation mode, where a minimum volume flow of 60 m³/h is set.

The statuses of the ventilation unit are signalled via a total of 7 light emitting diodes. Three light emitting diodes indicate the current fan speed. If the unit has the status ‘basic ventilation’, it is recognizable by fan step I gently flashing.

The light emitting diodes for ventilation and heating are located on the left-hand side, arranged next to the corresponding buttons. The need for a possible filter change is signalled by the light emitting diode at the bottom right. The light emitting diode for error messages is located on the bottom left-hand side.

Any error messages are displayed by flashing signals. You will find a detailed description of the error messages in Section 8 ‘Messages / faults’ of these instructions.

6.2.2 Special settings for the skilled installer

Settings for the basic ventilation and the volume flows can be made by pressing certain button combinations on the operator control unit ‘MINI’.

Switching the basic ventilation on and off

You can go to the setting menu by simultaneously pressing the buttons ‘Summer’ and ‘Winter’ for 3 seconds.

The setting is performed with the cursor buttons. If no button is pressed for 5 seconds, the parameterized value is stored and the operator control unit returns to the main menu.

If the LED for fan speed I flashes, the basic ventilation is switched off, and if the LED lights continuously, it is switched on.

Setting the air volume flows

Air speed I

You can go to the menu for air speed I by simultaneously pressing the buttons ‘Summer’ and ‘Arrow up’ for 3 seconds.

The volume flow is set with the cursor buttons. If no button is pressed for 5 seconds, the parameterized values are stored and the operator control unit returns to the main menu.

The setting of fan speed I begins at 50 m³/h, if no LED lights up. By respective flashing or lighting of the individual LEDs the volume flow increases by 10 m³/h up to a maximum of 190 m³/h when all LED’s light up. However, the setting is limited to air speed III (factory setting 180 m³/h).

Air speed II

You can go to the menu for air speed II by simultaneously pressing the buttons ‘Winter’ and ‘Arrow down’ for 3 seconds.

Air speed II can be set as of 80 m³/h (no LED lights up) up to 220 m³/h (all LEDs light up) in increments of 10 m³/h. Here too setting is only possible up to air speed III (factory setting 180 m³/h).

6.3 Operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’

The Komfort operator control unit is characterized by the easy handling of all functions of the ventilation unit. All status and fault messages in a text display are shown in plain text.

An integrated real-time clock enables automatic mode for clock-controlled adaptation of the fan speed and of the temperature setpoint of the unit.

A battery is inset on the rear side of the operator control unit (type CR 2430 3 V). If the supply voltage fails, the system time is maintained by this. If the battery is low, the time has to be reset after any voltage failure that is incurred by the ventilation unit – see point 6.3.2.3 in these instructions.

6.3.1 Button of the operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’

The operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ is equipped with 6 buttons.

The button at the bottom right switches the ventilation unit on or over to standby mode.

The two other buttons on the right-hand side are used for increasing or reducing the temperature in order to increase or reduce the temperature set point. In the configuration menu these buttons are also used for setting other parameters.

The desired fan speed is set by means of the button at the top left. Actuation of the button leads to an increase in the fan speed. If fan speed III is exceeded, fan speed I is set again.

The automatic button is located on the left-hand side in the centre. In automatic mode the fan speed and any temperature reduction is determined with the aid of a timer. In manual mode only the fan speed requested by the user is set without consideration of the timer.

The button at the bottom left switches between summer and winter modes.

6.3.2 Representation on the display

The operator control unit has a four-line display and three light emitting diodes for display purposes. The display shows the current status and messages in plain text. The light emitting diode on the right-hand side indicates whether the system is in operation.

If the unit is switched on and defect-free, it lights up green. In the event of a defect it flashes red.

The two other light emitting diodes signal cooling mode and heating mode.

6.3.2.1 Starting the unit

Upon first voltage supply the operator control unit performs a self-test. This takes 10 seconds at the maximum and is shown on the display. The status last pending is re-created when a restart take place after a voltage failure.

6.3.2.2 Switching the unit on and off

The operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ has its own On/Off button with which to put the unit in standby mode when required.

In standby mode, depending on the configuration, the ventilation unit is either completely deactivated or the fan speed is reduced to basic ventilation. When the On/Off button is pressed the unit is switched back

on and returns to its original status.

6.3.2.3 Setting the date and time To set the time on the ‘KOMFORT’ operator control unit the unit has to be switched to standby mode. In switched off condition the time can be edited by pressing the automatic/manual button.

The display of the current hour thereupon starts to flash. To change the displayed value, the + and – buttons have to be pressed. Pressing the automatic/manual button confirms the value.

Once the current hour is set and confirmed, the cursor wanders to the minutes display. The date and time are set in this way.

Once all values are set, the cursor fades away when the automatic/manual button is pressed again. The input can be terminated at any time by pressing the On/Off button.

6.3.2.4 Automatic/manual mode

The real-time clock integrated into the operator control unit enables automatic mode. Optionally the fan speed can also be specified manually. Switch-over between the two operating modes can be performed with the automatic/manual button.

In automatic mode the fan speed is specified in accordance with a timer. Furthermore, in automatic mode it is possible to set a temperature reduction for certain times of the day.

There is still manual mode as an alternative to automatic mode. In this case the fan speed prespecified by the user and the prespecified target temperature are maintained at all times.

6.3.2.5 Summer mode/winter mode

If the operator control unit is in manual mode, you can determine whether the ventilation unit is to operate in summer or winter mode.

In winter mode the outdoor air is always conducted via the heat exchanger. An auxiliary heater is given clearance only in winter mode.

Clearance is withdrawn from the auxiliary heater in summer mode. In summer mode, if the outdoor air temperature is less than the temperature in the living space, the heat recovery is bypassed with the aid of a bypass flap in order to slightly cool the living space when necessary (cooling effect!).

In automatic mode the automatic switch-over to winter mode and vice versa is performed by the automatic time changeover facility in the spring and autumn. In automatic mode no changeover from summer or winter mode is possible manually. Manual changeover can only be performed in manual mode.

6.3.2.6 Selecting the fan speed

In automatic mode the current fan speed is determined with the aid of the timer. However, the possibility exists of switching the ventilation unit over to fan speed III. Fan speed III is activated by pressing the fan speed button once. After 120 mins. (this time is adjustable) the operator control unit switches back automatically to the fan speed prespecified by the timer.In manual mode the fan speed is prespecified only by hand. Switching between the fan speeds I, II and III is effected by pressing the fan speed button.

6.3.2.7 Setting the room temperature in conjunction with external auxiliary heating

In the case of ventilation units with external auxiliary heating the possibility exists of heating up the supply air and thereby controlling the room temperature.

The target temperature is adapted by pressing the buttons + and – on the operator control unit’s operating display. When the + or – button is

pressed once, the current target temperature appears on the display. The temperature setpoint can be adapted.

If no button is actuated for a period of one minute, the new setpoint is adopted and the unit switches back to the view in which the time is displayed.

6.3.2.8 Week time/day time program

Depending on the current time and the weekday it is possible to automatically set the fan speed via the integrated timer of the operator control unit. In the winter program a lowering mode for the air temperature can be set additionally on units with external auxiliary heating.

The timer allows a weekday to be subdivided into three time intervals, for which an individual fan speed can be selected. The timer also differentiates between weekdays, so that, for example, a different switching program can be set for the weekend than that during the week. Furthermore, it is also differentiated between summer and winter modes on the timer.

To adapt the week and day time program as desired, a changeover to the timer has to be effected via a special button combination.

Manual mode has to be activated first of all; the unit must be in summer mode. With the summer/winter mode button pressed, the On/Standby button has to be pressed in addition. The operator control unit then changes over to the timer.

In the timer menu a switch-over between the time program for summer and winter can be performed with the button for summer/winter mode. To edit the timer the automatic/manual button has to be pressed. The + and – buttons are used to alter the selected value. Further pressing of theautomatic/manual button causes the cursor to jump to the next entry.

If the switching program has been completed for one day (the cursor is on the fan speed for a time period c) and if the cursor is moved further with the automatic/manual button, the day time program just created is copied to the following day. The + button has to be confirmed for this.

To not adopt the values for the following day, the automatic/manual button has to be pressed, which moves the cursor back to selection of

the weekday again.

The timer menu is terminated automatically, if no entry has been made for a period of one minute. The menu can be quitted at any time by pressing the On/Standby button. The operator control unit then returns to the original display screen.

6.3.3 Special functions for the skilled installer

The operator control unit has two special menus for the purpose of performing basic configurations. Furthermore, additional information, for example, the operating hours of the unit, can be read off in these menus.

6.3.3.1 Special menu 1 - Operating hours counter and duration of fan speed III (for skilled installers only)

In this menu option the operating hours counter can be read out and reset, and the running time of fan speed III can also be adapted.

This shows the different running times of the ventilation unit. The running times L1 - L4 specify for how many hours the unit has been on the relevant fan speed. The operating hours of the basic ventilation are stored in L4 in this case. LG specifies the total operating hours of the ventilation unit. H stores the operating hours of the auxiliary heating, and B the duration for which the bypass flap has been activated.

To reset the operating hours, the cursor has to be activated by pressing the automatic/manual button. The cursor appears in the total operating hours LG. All counters are set to the value 0 by pressing the – button.

The cursor changes to L3T by pressing the automatic/manual button once again. This value stands for the running time of fan speed III. The value can be set with the + and – buttons within the range of 5 to 240 mins.

After completion of the relevant settings the unit has to be deactivated via the On/Standby button. The date has to be reset to return to normal operating mode.

6.3.3.2 Special menu 2 - Language settings, basic ventilation and volume flow settings

Special menu 2 is subdivided into two levels. The first level can be reached by way of a button combination. Manual mode has to be activated for this. Furthermore, the unit must be in winter mode. Pressing and holding the summer/winter mode button and simultaneously pressing the On/Standby button causes the operator control unit to change over to special menu 2.

The remaining filter running time is visible in this menu.

The second level can be reached by entering a code. In this special menu you can reach the lower level by activating the cursor with the automatic/manual button and entering the code 12345 with the aid of the + and – buttons. Once you have entered the code fully and havepressed the automatic/manual button once more, the next level is displayed.

6 settings can be made on this level:

Reset: with reset you set the operator control unit back to the factory settings.

Adjust: you can calibrate the temperature sensor on the operator control unit here.

‘English’: at this point the currently selected system language is displayed and can be set.The languages German, English, Dutch and French are available for selection.

G: basic ventilation. If the basic ventilation is activated with G = 1, the ventilation unit runs instandby mode at minimum fan speed (60 m³/h). G = 0 deactivates basic ventilation, i.e. theventilation unit is switched off in standby mode.

L1: specifies the volume flow setpoint for fan speed I. This value can be set in increments of4 m³/h. However, the setting is limited to air speed III (factory setting 180 m³/h).

L2: specifies the volume flow setpoint for fan speed II. This value can be set in increments of4 m³/h. Here too setting is only possible up to air speed III (factory setting 180 m³/h).

6.4 Operator control unit type ‘DESIGN’

The 'DESIGN" control unit is characterised by an easy handling of all functions of the ventilation unit. All status and fault messages are shown in plain text on a graphical display.

An integrated real-time clock makes automatic operation possible in order to adjust the fan speed and tempera-ture set-point of the unit under clock control. An interface adapter (BDE adapter) is required for communication with the control unit. See section 10.3.4 - Electric circuit and wiring diagram.

6.4.1 Buttons/touchpads of the "DESIGN" control unit

The "DESIGN" model control unit is equipped with 2 buttons (touchpads) and 2 scrollbars.

The left button is for "Back". The right button is for "Enter". The individual menus can be selected with the horizontal scrollbar.

The vertical scrollbar is used to select the respective command lines inside a menu page.

6.4.2 On the display

The control unit has a full graphics display as well as three LEDs. The display shows the current status as well as messages in plain text. The LEDs on the top right side of the display indicate the following additional operating states: Green: Running Yellow: Filter maintenance Red: Fault

The operating menu is setup horizontally and the individual menus can be selected by using the horizontal scrollbar. The individual lines in a menu can be selected with the vertical scrollbar. The selected line is then magnified or highlighted.

If a menu is more extensive than that which can be shown in one menu screen, then this is indicated by a scroll-bar on the right edge of the screen.

6.4.2.2 Unit start-up

When power is supplied for the first time, the control unit performs a self-test. It takes a maximum of 5 seconds and is shown on the display. After a power failure, the most recent available state is restored when the unit restarts.

6.4.2.3 Unit start-up

To switch the ventilation unit on or off, use the horizontal scrollbar to select the "Operating mode" menu. Then use the vertical scrollbar to select the desired oper-ating mode. Confirm it with the enter button. Depending on the configuration of the basic settings (basic ventilation on/off), you can choose between: • System off/Automatic mode/Manual mode or:• Basic ventilation/Automatic mode/Manual mode.

Manual mode: In manual mode, the fan speed specified by the user as well as the specified set-point temperature is maintained.

Automatic mode: Here, the fan speed is specified according to a timer switch. Fur-thermore, it is possible in automatic mode to set a temperature reduction for specif-ic times of day (winter time program).

6.4.2.4 Setting the date and time

Go to the settings menu to set the date and time. Once in the menu, use the verti-cal scrollbar to select the Date/Time line and then open it with "Enter". If you press the enter button again, the hours display will be highlighted and can be changed with the vertical scrollbar. The setting must be confirmed with the enter button. The confirmation causes the next setting to be selected. The minutes and date are set in the same way. Once all values have been set, you can exit the submenu with the back key.

6.4.2.5 Setting the time program

Fan speed 2 is generally in use in automatic mode. You can also use the submenu "Summer time pro-gram" or "Winter time program" to set individual time programs. Three time windows are available for each weekday. To set the time program, open the "Summer time program" or "Winter time program" submenu in the "Settings" menu First of all, select the day of the week and confirm it with the enter button. When you press the enter button, the cursor jumps to the first

switching time. Set the desired switching time with the vertical scrollbar and confirm it with the enter button. Confirming it causes the cursor to jump automatically to the next position. After all switching times have been set, the settings for that day must be confirmed (save) by pressing the enter button.

Now it is possible to copy the settings for other days of the week as well. If applica-ble, start the copy function with "Yes" (Enter) or return to selecting the day with the "No" (Back) button.

If the copy function was started, the individual days of the week can now be select-ed. The switching times can also be copied into the winter time program here.

After the copy function, select the menu line "Accept selection" and confirm with "Enter". Afterwards, the display returns to the originally selected day and then the remaining days of the week can be parameterised. For units with an external auxil-iary heater, a decrease mode can be set for the air temperature in the "winter time program" as well.

6.4.2.6 Summer mode/Winter mode

If the ventilation unit is in "manual mode", then you can switch between summer and winter mode here.

In winter mode, the outside air is always channelled through the heat exchanger. The auxiliary heater is enabled exclusively in winter mode.

The auxiliary heater is disabled again in summer mode. If the temperature of the outside air is lower than the temperature in the living space, then a bypass flap is used to circumvent the heat recovery in order to slightly cool the living space if necessary (cooling effect).

In automatic mode, the mode is changed over automatically from summer mode to winter mode and vice versa in spring and autumn with the automatic time changeover. It is also possible to change from summer or winter mode manually in automatic mode. However, the manual setting will be removed again at the next automatic changeover (summer/winter time change).

6.4.2.7 Selecting the fan speed

In automatic mode the current fan speed is determined automatically based on a timer switch. However, there is a possibility to switch the ventilation unit to fan speed 3. The control unit automatically switches back to the fan speed specified in the timer switch after 120 minutes (this time is adjustable).

In manual mode, the fan speed is specified exclusively by hand.

6.4.2.8 Setting room temperature in connection with external auxiliary heating

For ventilation unit with external auxiliary heating, there is the possibility to warm up the supply air and that way regulate the room temperature. In the "Room set-point temperature" menu, the desired temperature can be set using the vertical scrollbar. Afterwards, the value is accepted by pressing the enter button.

The following system information is shown here: • Software version, current fan speed, current room temperature, remaining filterservice life• Hours of operation of the respective fan speeds, basic ventilation, auxiliary heaterand the brine pump of the geothermal heat exchanger.

Filter: The remaining filter service life is shown. The filter timer can be reset by pressing the enter button (e.g. after replacing the filter).

Continuous fan speed 3: Specification of the running time of fan speed 3 with manual activation - party setting. The desired duration must be set with the vertical scrollbar and accepted with "Enter"

Fault memory The last 5 faults are shown in chronological order in plain text with the date and time. This display is maintained even after the fault is resolved and acknowledged.

Restarting the unit: A soft reset of the control unit electronics can be carried out here. In the process, all settings such as the time program, room set-point temperature and so on are preserved.

6.4.3 Special functions for the technical installer

The control unit has a password protected service area for carrying out basic con-figurations. Enter the password "1001" as follows to gain access to the service area: • Press the enter button. Use the vertical scrollbar to enter the first digit. Then usethe horizontal scrollbar to select the second position and enter the second digit.Likewise, enter the 3rd and 4th digits.

Language: Here you can choose between the different operating languages.

Temperature compensation: In order to compensate for effects at the customer's site, the temperature sensor in the control unit can be calibrated here (+/- 5K).

The volumetric flow rates for level 1 and 2 can be set in the Ventilation submenu. The setting is made in incre-ments of 4 m³/h between 52 m³/h and the air volume of level 3 that was set at the factory. Furthermore, the basic ventilation can be activated/deactivated here. If the basic ventilation is deactivated, then the ventilation unit can-not be switched off. Instead of the "off" position, the ventilation unit is operated with a minimum air volume of ca 60 m³/h (basic ventilation/humidity protection).

The remaining filter life is shown in submenu Filter. The filter timer can be reset by pressing the enter button (e.g. after replacing the filter).

The following settings are reset by this: summer and winter time program, continuous fan speed 3, temperature compensation, volumetric flow rate 1 and 2, enabling of basic ventilation.

6.4.4 Optional expansion for demand-based room ventilation

6.4.4.1 Demand-based ventilation by CO2 concentration

If the optional CO2 sensor for demand-based ventilation control is used, then the following additional

displays and setting possibilities exist:

Status display: The current CO2 concentration of the room air is now shown below the date display. A maximum of 4 sensors can be connected. The individual sensors can be named by means of the software for better clarity. If multiple sensors are connected, then the measured values are shown alternately. The sensor with the highest measured value is always interpreted when selecting the fan speed.

The optional choice "Demand-based" is shown as well in the Fan speed menu. If "Demand-based" is selected, then the fan speeds are switched in accordance with the CO2 concentration of the room air. The set time program is not active for this setting.

The switching points of the fan speeds can be set depending on the CO2 values

under Settings.

6.4.4.2 Demand-based ventilation by contaminant concentration (VOC)

The demand-based ventilation control based on contaminant concentration (VOC) works the same way as con-trol based on CO2 concentration as described under 6.4.4.1. The VOC sensor must be used as the sensor here. All set-points are to be set in ppm.

6.4.4.3 Demand-based ventilation by humidity concentration

The demand-based ventilation control based on relative humidity (rH) works the same way as control based on CO2 concentration as described under 6.4.4.1. The room humidity sensor must be used as the sensor here. All set-points are to be set in % rH.

6.4.4.4 Demand-based ventilation by CO2 and humidity concentration

The demand-based ventilation control based on CO2 and humidity concentration works the same way as control based on CO2 concentration as described under 6.4.4.1. The combined CO2 / humidity room sensor must be used as the sensor here. All set-points are to be set in ppm and % rH. Here, the fan speeds are always controlled by the higher measured value (automatic selection of maximum).

7 Power unit

The control unit consists of a power unit and a selectable operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’, type ‘DESIGN’ or model ‘MINI’. The power unit is connected by means of a bus connection (length < 100 m; cable type Y(ST)Y2x2x0.64; screened) to the operator control unit. Setpoints, actual values and error messages are interchanged between the operator control unit and the power unit that is integrated into the unit via this bus connection.

7.1 Configuration and diagnosis with the aid of the PC software

The power unit is parameterized via a PC connection with the aid of software. By this means, for example, the function of an earth heat exchanger or of a reheater battery is activated. In addition to the configuration the software also displays all current measured values.

Furthermore, the measured values and settings are marked and graphically displayed during operation.

7.1.1 Connection of PCs

A PC with an USB interface is required for connection of the PC to the power unit in the ventilation unit.

A special interface adapter and the related driver software is required for the actual connection with the power unit. This interface adapter is plugged into the IDE connector on the upper side of the power unit. Not until this has taken place can a connection be made with the software.

7.1.2 Software overview

The software for configuration searches for the presence of a power unit. After a successful search all data and settings are read out of the machine and the main program screen appears.

The main screen is subdivided into two parts. The detailed current status and the power unit configuration are displayed on the left-hand side.

The right-hand side displays the chronological progression of the most important variables of the ventilation unit, which are recorded during operation of the software.

Up to 5 measured temperatures are displayed by selecting the relevant field at the top left in the program. The sensors can be calibrated by selecting the relevant field. They are displayed in colour. The corresponding colours are displayed in the same colours on the temperature progression display.

The current air volume flow,, the control voltage and the rotational speeds are displayed for the two fans in the software. With the offset start-up, the starting voltage of the first five minutes is set after the two fans are switched on.

The control voltage to the set air volume can be calibrated with an offset.

The status display for inputs and outputs is located next to the status display. The current status of the relevant relay is displayed in the outputs window.

The chronological progression of the outputs is also recorded and displayed in the graphical display as a bar chart.

In the inputs group, under the status of the external outputs, there is also information such as the type of operator control unit.

7.1.3 Settable parameters

Air speed III can only be altered via the PC software. The supply and exhaust air fans can be set to a random air differential or equality by means of the air differential parameter .

The software has not only to be used for diagnostics in the current operating mode, but also for the initial startup of the ventilation unit. All basic settings can be made with this. If a parameter is altered via the software, it is adopted directly and also stored in the unit.

Automatic control: In this configuration the measured value can be set at which the reheaterbattery is to be controlled. Automatic control of the supply air temperature (= factory setting) and,if a ‘KOMFORT’ or ‘DESIGN’ operator control unit is being used, of the room temperature andextract air temperature.

Configuration: the defrosting strategy is defined here. If an air heat exchanger with a switch-overflap or a brine earth heat exchanger is available, the EHE has to be selected (here, the optionaloutside sensor must be connected). If the unit is operated via an external or internal preheaterbattery, this option has to be selected (= factory setting). Otherwise the heat exchanger isdefrosted via the extract air through the setting to exhaust air defrost.

Reheater battery: determines the different activation behaviour, depending on whether anelectrical or hot water heater battery (= factory setting) is being operated.

System: determines whether the existing ventilation unit is a size LG 180 unit with 180 m³/h or asize LG 250 unit with 250 m³/h.

If the ventilation unit has a configuration that can make necessary a defrosting process (no EHE installed), the parameters of the defrosting strategy are settable.

The settable parameters are: the temperature at which a defrosting process is initiated, the duration of the defrosting process and the defrost pause for which a further defrosting process is suppressed. In the event that the ventilation unit is in the process of performing a defrosting process, the current counters are also displayed. In addition the defrosting process is initiated, if the ‘defrosting difference’ (temperature difference between supply and extract air) parameter is exceeded.

With the setting ‘extract air defrosting’ the defrosting temperature and the defrost difference is settable at which the defrosting process is initiated. In addition the switch-off time are set and displayed via the supply air stop timer.

With the limit speed parameter, the speed of the exhaust air fan can be limited to a maximum speed (noise gen-eration) during the exhaust air defrost process.

4 parameters exist for temperature control of the supply air. On the one hand these are the controller parameters XP and TN and on the other hand the allowed limit values of the minimum and maximum supply air.

Automatic reheater battery control: For automatic extract air control and for room control there is an underlying control circuit. If there is a control difference between the setpoint and actual value, the supply air setpoint is raised. The supply air controller then increases the supply air temperature and the control difference for the room temperature or extract air temperature becomes smaller. The parameters for adaptation of the supply air temperature guidance are XP-heating and TN-heating. The greater TN-heating is, the slower the supply air setpoint rises. The greater XP-heating is, the less intense is the influence of the control difference.

If water is set as the reheater battery, in addition the mixer running time and mixer cycle can be set.

In the event that an earth heat exchanger has been parameterized, two other parameters also appear. These parameters are EHE winter and EHE summer. The earth heat exchanger switch-on threshold can be set with these.

The bypass switch point can also be parameterized via the software. This can be altered in 1 °C increments.

The time for the filter change and the filter change interval are displayed and set in the display box Filter timer and Filter loading

value.

External input E2 can be configured as a frost protection input for a water re-heater or as Ext fan speed 3. When a potential-free contact is connected to input E2, fan speed 3 is activated until the contact is removed. In addition, a delay time can be set using

Ext fan speed 3 delay.

7.2 Test functions for service

To simplify a fundamental functional testing of the ventilation unit the power unit has a service mode. The various outputs of the service technician can be set manually by means of this mode.

Service mode is activated on the menu bar in the view > Service. A window with various buttons appears. The relays can be switched with these. The fan speeds and summer/winter mode can also be switched by means of these.

Relay outputs that have been manually switched, reset themselves automatically after 30 minutes. Switching of the outputs is performed only when the fan speed exceeds 250 rpm.

The reset button resets the unit to the factory settings.

7.3 Data recording

While the program is being executed on the PC and is connected to the power units, all important values are recorded and saved in an Excel file at 24 hour intervals. Up to 7 days can be recorded by means of the graphic display on the right-hand side of the screen. Upon expiry of 7 days the relevant oldest day is deleted.

If required, this enables continuous data acquisition. If required, these records can also be printed out via the software.

In addition, a control list can be retrieved in the menu bar under 'Messages' with the date and time of the last 1000 commands for fault analysis.

8 Messages / faults 8.1 Filter message and resetting of the filter monitoring of the operator control unit

‘MINI’

Upon expiry of the filter time the operator control unit signals the necessity of a filter change by way of the light emitting diode provided for this purpose, which illuminates continuously yellow.

8.1.1 Deletion of the filter message after a requested filter change

After replacement of the air filters in the ventilation unit, the filter counter is reset by simultaneously pressing the button combination Reduce fan speed/Increase fan speed for 5 seconds. Upon pressing this combination the filter message goes out.

8.1.2 Deletion of the filter message after a premature filter change

If the air filters are replaced prematurely, the filter counter has to be reset without a pending filter message.

Resetting of the filter counter takes place by simultaneously pressing the Reduce fan speed/Increase fan speed button and have to be held for at least 5 seconds.

8.2 Filter message and resetting of the filter monitoring of the operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’

Upon expiry of the filter time the request to change the air filter appears on the operator control unit.

8.2.1 Deletion of the filter message after a requested filter change

If the air filters in the ventilation unit have been changed, the filter counter is reset by simultaneously pressing the + and - buttons for 5 seconds. Upon pressing this combination the filter message goes out.

9 Scope of delivery, transport, storage and disposal

9.1 Scope of supply

The scope of supply comprises the following:

the ventilation unit with the operator control unit ‘MINI’, ‘KOMFORT’ or ‘DESIGN’

the operating and installation instructions

optional accessories, e.g. PTC low temperature preheater or reheater battery etc.

Upon delivery of the unit it has to be considered and checked whether the type and serial number on the type plate conform with the specifications on the order and delivery papers, the equipment (optional accessories) is complete and all parts have been supplied in fault-free condition.

N.B.: In the event of any transport damage and/or missing parts, this must be reported to theforwarder or supplier immediately in writing.

9.2 Transport and packaging

The ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH is delivered in transport packing.

The safety symbols attached to the packing have to be heeded without fail. Any damage to the packing or unit on delivery has to be complained about and reported immediately.

Dimensions of the unit (w x h x d): 641 x 739 x 263 mm (1020 mm with cover element)

Weight: approx. 35 kg without optional accessories

To prevent any damage caused by force during transport, the air compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH must be handled with care. Care also has to be taken that the unit is not damaged in any way, tilted or knocked over. Avoid knocks and blows when transporting.

The valid safety and accident regulations have to be complied with during transport. During manual transport take care that only reasonable human lifting and carrying forces are used.

9.3 Storage

The unit has to be stored in its packing in suitable dry, dust-free rooms and protected against frost. Excessively long storage times (recommendation not longer than one year) have to be avoided.

9.4 Waste disposal

Care has to be taken that the packing material and the protective packing are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. The packing materials have to be disposed of in accordance with the local stipulations, for example, wooden pallets and cardboard packing have to be recycled.

Air filters have to be disposed of via the residual waste collection service.

Units that are no longer in working order have to be dismantled and properly disposed of by a specialized company via suitable collection centres and in compliance with the waste electrical and electronic equipment ordinance (EAG-VO), which provides for ratification of community law, directive 202/95/EC (RoHS) and the directive 2002/96/EC (the WEEE directive).

10 Installation

10.1 Prerequisites for installation of the unit

The compact ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH has to be installed in accordance with the general and locally valid safety and installation regulations and the regulations set out in these instructions. The erection and installation work may be performed only by authorized skilled personnel.

Erection of the ventilation unit may only take place in a frost-free room, for example, in the basement, in a storage room or in the loft at ambient temperatures of +5 °C at the minimum and +40 °C at the maximum. Any condensate incurred must be frost-free and securely discharged with inclines and using an effective odour trap.

The place of installation for the unit has to be selected so that there is sufficient space to make the air line connections, the electrical connections, the condensate connection and to perform the servicing and inspection work.

In front of and under the unit a free space of at least approx. 1 m has to be left for tending and servicing work.

The ventilation unit has to be installed on a sufficiently load-bearing and flat wall or ceiling. Fastening is be made to the fastening straps that have been attached to the unit at the factory.

The following devices must be available in the installation room:

Air line connections for the supply, extract, outdoor air and exhaust air

An electrical mains connection of 230 V/50 Hz, fuse 13 A

Condensate drainage line with an effective odour trap

All on-site work (condensate drainage, wall and ceiling breakthroughs etc.) must be completed prior to installation of the ventilation unit. The ventilation unit is fixed and cannot be moved any longer after the installation has been performed and after connection of the air lines.

The outdoor air and exhaust air lines, for example, between the ventilation unit and roof leadthrough, have to be sufficiently insulated for

energy reasons and for the purpose of avoiding condensate formation. No condensate must be allowed to form on the air lines or in the roofing. In the case of line routes outside of the thermally insulated building shell these routes have to be sufficiently insulated in the cold area.

Suitable thermal insulation, acoustic insulation and installation materials, for example, sufficiently dimensioned silencers, supply air and extract air valves, overflow openings etc. have to be provided without fail for proper and functionally compliant operation of the system subject to consideration of the planning documents of the planning consultant and of the technical specifications.

Fundamentally, silencers for assurance of the noise level have to be considered on all of the unit’s connecting pieces in the living space.

Air line leadthroughs through walls or ceilings have to be made so that they do not resonate due to structure-borne noise.

To protect against coarse contamination, for example, leaves, insects etc., a fine mesh wire grating has to be provided as a prefilter directly at the central outdoor air intake point. This protective grating has to be checked and, if necessary, cleaned at regular intervals, in particular in the spring and autumn. Inspection openings in the air line system have to be taken into consideration for the appropriate cleaning and servicing of the unit.

10.2 Installation of the unit

For all work the safety instructions cited in point 3.2 of these instructions have to be heeded!

10.2.1 Mounting of the ventilation unit

The ventilation unit is supplied ready to operate. Attention has to be paid that there is sufficient space to make the air line connections, the electrical connections, the condensate connection and to perform the servicing and inspection work.

The ventilation unit is mounted by way of the fastening straps on a load-bearing and flat wall or ceiling. According to the situation in existence on site for mounting the unit, the points listed below have to be taken into consideration when installing the unit.

10.2.1.1 Wall-mounted installation

In the case of wall mounting the ventilation unit is fastened to a suitable solid wall.

In doing so it has to be ensured that the ventilation unit is aligned horizontally and positioned in relation to the condensate cup.

Reliable drainage of the condensate water must be ensured.

Installation on the wall is performed via the four fastening straps, which must adjoin the wall face. The fastening screws are screwed through the borings in the fastening straps and into the wall using rawl plugs.

The requirements for constructing the condensate water connection, which is to be provided by the customer, are described in section 10.2.2.

10.2.1.2 Ceiling-mounted installation

In the case of ceiling mounting the ventilation unit is fastened to a suitable flat ceiling.

The ventilation unit has to be mounted with an incline of at least 2% in the direction of the condensate drainage connecting piece. 2 spacer bushes with a 20 x 20 mm diameter are included in the delivery contents for a tilted installation. They must be screwed on the tabs near the condensate pipe connection for an installation on a horizontal roof. This ensures an adequate downward slope for reliable condensate water drainage. The condensate line as of the unit outlet has to be laid with a constant incline of at least 5%. The requirements for constructing the condensate water connection, which is to be provided by the customer, are described in section 10.2.2.

Installation of the unit on the ceiling is performed via the four fastening straps. The fastening screws are screwed through the borings in the fastening straps and into the ceiling using rawl plugs (tensile force at least 0.5 kN).

If the unit is being installed into an intermediate ceiling, an installation opening of at least 80 x 80 cm has be enabled for any filter changes and the possible replacement of built-in parts.

10.2.2 Production of the condensate water connection

The condensate drain line as of the outlet from the unit is preferably to be made of rigid piping with a minimum diameter of 15 mm, with a end-to-end constant slope of at least 5% and a working siphon.

If the slope is too slight or if the line is installed horizontally, then the arising condensate cannot drain out of the ventilation unit and may possibly cause water damage. When closing the front doors, make sure there is an adequate and reliable seal to the unit's housing to ensure sealing that is air and condensate

water tight.

Optionally, the siphon can also created by bending a hose with an effective water head of approx. 80 mm. In the process, the hose must not be kinked and must be secured with adequate and suitable fastening material.

The odour trap must be filled with water to effectively prevent odour from spreading and for the avoidance of leaks.

The condensate trough has to be filled sufficiently with water before starting up the ventilation unit. The Reliable drainage of the water and the tightness of all connections has to be checked.

Upon completion of the work all tools and all installation materials have to be removed from the unit. It has to be ensured that no tools or installation materials remain in the unit, because on initial startup they can cause damage or the destruction of the unit.

When the front door is closed, sufficient and dependable sealing against the unit housing has to be ensured in order to guarantee airtight and condensate-tight closure.

10.2.2.1 Wall-mounted installation

Attention! Before starting up the compact ventilation unit, you must check to make sure that the condensate drain works flawlessly. The siphon or condensate drain hose, which is to be provided by the customer, must be filled with an effective water seal. The removable front cover must be

sealed all around!

10.2.2.2 Ceiling-mounted installation

In the case of ceiling mounting the ventilation unit is fastened to a suitable flat ceiling.

The ventilation unit has to be mounted with an incline of at least 2% in the direction of the condensate drainage connecting piece.

Installation of the unit on the ceiling is performed via the four fastening straps. A slope of at least 2% for a tilted installation

The fastening screws are screwed through the borings in the fastening straps and into the ceiling using rawl plugs (tensile force at least 0.5 kN). The condensate drain line as of the outlet from the unit is preferably to be made of rigid piping with a minimum diameter of 15 mm, with a end-to-end constant slope of at least 5% and a working siphon.

If the slope is too slight or if the line is installed horizontally, then the arising condensate cannot drain out of the ventilation unit and may possibly cause water damage. 10.2.3 Connection of air lines and components

The air line connections have to be made via the unit connections. When this is done, corresponding air-tightness and suitable vibration insulation has to be ensured.

The air line and attachments, e.g. silencers etc. may only be fastened to the ventilation unit by means of sufficiently dimensioned fastening elements and onto appropriately solid wall or ceiling building components.

The use of flexible hoses for making the unit connections has to be avoided.

When making the line connections it has to be ensured in particular that no tools or installation materials fall into the unit connections or onto the unit itself. Damage could then occur to the components, for example, to the fans blades.

Suitable and sufficient insulation of the air line components and installation components has to be made in accordance with the project specifications.

10.3 Electrical connection

The electrical connection work and work on the electrical parts of the system may be performed only by authorized skilled electricians in compliance with national and local regulations.

The relevant national and local regulations and standards must be complied with for the mounting and electrical installation work.

The design of the ventilation unit complies with the safety requirements of the equipment and product safety act and with the applicable stipulations of the EC directives.

The safety directions in point 3.2 and in particular in point 3.2.3. Electrical connection works have to be complied with for all electrical work.

10.3.1 Cable leadthroughs

For connection of the mains cable to the earthing contact, the connecting cable of the respective operator control unit and of any optional system components, such as external or external sensors, have to be introduced into the ventilation unit through the leadthrough on the upper side of the unit.

10.3.2 Connection between the operator control unit and power unit

The control unit consists of a power unit and an operator control unit. The power unit has to be connected to the operator control unit by means of a bus connection. The power unit can communicate the internal statuses and the operating and fault messages to the operator control unit via this lead connection.

A screened cable Y(ST)Y2x2x0.64 is required to make the connection. The cable length must not be longer than 100 m. The screening has to be clamped to the protective earth PE of the ventilation unit. The connecting cable is not included in the scope of supply.

The plug connection to the power unit and to the operator control unit is by means of an IDE connector.

10.3.3 Installation of the operator control unit

A suitable installation location has to be selected for the operator control unit, i.e. not in the vicinity of any appliances with a temperature influence, not directly next to a window, not in places directly exposed to sunlight and not behind or in furniture.

A temperature sensor is only directly integrated into the operator control unit type ‘KOMFORT’ or type ‘DESIGN’, which measures the current room temperature.

The room temperature sensor is required for the control action of the control unit (optionally automatic extract air, supply air or room temperature control). This function is described in Section 7.1.3. ‘settable parameters’ in these instructions.

10.3.3.1 Type ‘MINI’

Fastening of the operator control unit ‘MINI’ is performed by screwing the fastening plate supplied into a commonly available electrical wall box. The cover frame and the operator control unit are pushed onto the fastening plate after the connecting cable has been plugged in.

10.3.3.2 Type ‘KOMFORT’

The operator control unit ‘KOMFORT’ is fastened by screwing the housing to the borings prepared for this purpose above the electrical box also prepared for this purpose on the wall and in which the connecting cable has been laid. After plugging in the connecting cable the operator control unit is fastened to the housing frame.

The operator control unit ‘DESIGN’ is fastened by screwing the mounting frame to the borings prepared for this purpose above the electrical box also prepared for this purpose on the wall and in which the connecting cable has been laid. After plugging in the connecting cable the operator control unit is fastened to the mounting frame.

10.3.4 Circuit diagram

In general the external system components, expansion components and requisite temperature sensors have to be connected in accordance with the electrical connection diagram. The temperature sensors T1 to T4 are wired at the factory. The control unit detects automatically when the outdoor temperature sensor T5 is connected electrically.

10.3.5 Mains connection and replacement of the unit’s internal fuse

The ventilation unit LG 180 system VENTECH may only be operated at a voltage rating of 230 V/50 Hz, as specified on the type plate. Before performing any work on the electrical power unit all of the unit’s poles have to be disconnected from the mains and secured against being switched back on.

The mains connection has to be made professionally by means of an on-site electrical connection cable after the unit has been fully installed. The terminals for mains connection and the electrical series fuse are accessible after unscrewing the protective cover for the electrical power unit.

10.4 Connection of a reheater battery

10.4.1 PTC reheater battery (internal)

When a PTC reheater battery is retrofitted in the ventilation unit the temperature sensor that is built into the heater battery module has to be connected to input T5 (outdoor air temperature), and in the operating software it has to be switched over to the parameter ‘reheater battery electrical’. If no temperature sensor is connected to input T5, a fault message is output.

10.4.2 Water reheater battery (external)

Upon connection of an external water reheater battery the connections of the supply air temperature sensor T4 that is built into the ventilation unit have to be changed over to input T5 (outdoor air temperature). The external supply air sensor that is obtainable as an optional accessory, with a length of 5 m, is connected to input T4 supply air temperature, and installed in the air duct after the heater battery. In the operating software you have to switch over to the parameter ‘reheater battery water’. If no temperature sensor is connected to input T5, a fault message is output.

10.5 Initial startup

The complete ventilation system must be connected and ready to operate prior to initial startup of the ventilation unit. A dependable initial startup or setting of the system possible are not possible until all work on the system has been completed.

The factory settings on the control unit may only be changed by a skilled installer. In the event of a wrong setting a malfunction of the unit can occur.

10.5.2 Setting the system parameters

Check the system components and correct the setting as necessary.

Set the system parameters, e.g., adapt the volume flow/fan speed.

11 Servicing and cleaning

11.1 Safety directions

When performing cleaning or servicing work on the ventilation unit always pull out the mains plug or disconnect all poles of the unit from the mains!

Other available equipment components and system elements, e.g. earth heat exchanger, preheater and reheater batteries, silencers etc. have to be serviced and cleaned in

accordance with the regulations and instructions.

When the front panel or the covers are opened and unscrewed, work has to be performed with great care, conscious of safety and dangers.

A vacuum cleaner has to be used to remove the dirt and dust. Cleaning with great force or with compressed air can cause damage to the components and to the surfaces.

The use of corrosive or dissolving cleaning agents is not permitted.

The electrical components must not come into contact with moisture or wetness.

The safety directions in point 3.2 and in particular in point 3.2.3. Electrical connection works have to be complied with for all electrical work.

11.2 Customer service

11.3 Service instructions for the user

These instructions relate only to the regular checking, servicing and replacement of the air filters by the user.

The condition of the air filters has to be checked at regular intervals. If there is heavy soiling, the filters have to be replaced immediately, otherwise, depending on the outdoor air contamination, at intervals of at least half a year. For filter replacement only genuine spare filters must be used, subject to utilization of the envisaged filter quality class. The ventilation unit must never be operated without using an air filter!

When inserting the new filters care has to be taken that there is dependable sealing and sufficient clamping between the air filter and filter frame to avoid high filter bypass leakages.

Prefilter for PTC electric preheater battery

When replacing the air filters care has to be taken that no contamination of the unit or of the system parts takes place. Dirty air filters have to be disposed of immediately in the proper manner.

It has proven to be favourable to immediately pack the air filters airtight after extracting them from the unit in order to avoid contamination of the ventilation system and of the unit itself.

11.4 Service instructions for the specialized installing company

The work tasks on the ventilation unit as specified below must be performed by skilled personnel only. If any defects are ascertained in the course of the servicing work, they must be rectified immediately to enable safe operation of the system.

Only genuine spare parts may be used for replacements or repairs.

11.4.1 Heat exchanger with bypass flap

Cleaning at least once annually is recommended, depending on the degree of contamination of the heat exchanger.

The front of the housing has to be unscrewed to service the heat exchanger. The condensate drainage connecting piece has to be unscrewed from the

condensate cup. The heat exchanger can then be pulled out of the ventilation unit.

Cleaning of the heat exchanger is performed by washing it down with warm water (50 °C at the maximum) using normal detergents and then rinsing off with warm water. Under no circumstances should the exchanger be blown through with compressed air. This could ruin the exchanger!

Prior to installation of the exchanger in the unit, the guide rails on the heat exchanger have to be lightly greased to ensure easy and smooth insertion.

After re-insertion of the heat exchanger the condensate connecting piece has to be screwed watertight into the condensate cup using

sealing material.

11.4.2 Fans

Opening of the motor housing and working on the electrical components in the motor must be performed only by the manufacturer of the fan. If there are any defects to the fan, it must be replaced by a new genuine fan.

Cleaning may be necessary depending on the degree of contamination of the fans.

Prior to working on the fans all poles of the ventilation unit have to be switched to voltage-free and secured against being switched back on!

The servicing and cleaning work on the fan are restricted to the fan housing and impeller.

The front of the housing has to be unscrewed to access the fans. The condensate drainage connecting piece has to be unscrewed from the condensate cup. The heat exchanger can then be pulled out of the ventilation unit. The eight fastening screws have to be loosened. The fan units and the electronic part have to be removed carefully from the unit’s housing. Attention has to be paid to the electrical connecting cable to the motor. It must not incur any damage.

A soft brush has to be used to clean the fan blades. The fan housing is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

Damage to the rotating blades must be avoided. Any balancing weights present must not be removed or damaged, otherwise imbalance of the impeller will take place in operation and an increased noise level and vibrations can occur as a result.

11.4.3 Electrical PTC preheater battery (optional)

Cleaning at least once annually is recommended, depending on the degree of contamination of the electrical PTC preheater battery.

Prior to working on electrical heater batteries, all poles of the ventilation unit have to be switched to voltage-free and secured against being switched back on!

For cleaning purposes the preheater unit has to be carefully pulled out of the ventilation unit after having opened the fastening screw. Attention has to be paid to the electrical connection. It must not incur any damage.

The fins on the battery must not incur any damage in the course of the cleaning work.

Compressed air, a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush have to be used to remove the dust.

In the course of any cleaning work performed on external electrical preheater batteries, the prefilter, where present, must also be checked in any case, and, if it is contaminated, replaced.

11.4.4 Electrical PTC reheater battery (optional)

Cleaning at least once annually is recommended, depending on the degree of contamination of the electrical PTC reheater battery.

Prior to working on electrical heater batteries, all poles of the ventilation unit have to be switched to voltage-free and secured against being switched back on!

For cleaning purposes the reheater unit has to be carefully pulled out of the ventilation unit after having opened the fastening screw. Attention has to be paid to the electrical connection. It must not incur any damage.

The fins on the battery must not incur any damage in the course of the cleaning work.

Compressed air, a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush have to be used to remove the dust.

Unit’s housing - internal cleaning

Cleaning at least once annually is recommended, depending on the degree of contamination.

When cleaning, careful handling of the insulation surfaces of the housing has to be ensured. Excessive use of force during cleaning, for example, when wiping or brushing, can cause damage to the insulation surfaces! A vacuum cleaner has to be used to remove the dust.

The electrical components must not come into contact with moisture or wetness. In particular, damage to the temperature sensors and electrical connecting lines has to be avoided.

11.4.5 Condensate drainage

Cleaning of the condensate drain, drainage line and odour trap is recommended at least once annually, depending on the degree of contamination and on the temperatures.

The fault-free functioning of the condensate drainage line and of its components must be ensured for dependable operation of the system.

For servicing the front of the housing has to be unscrewed and the condensate drainage connecting piece has to be unscrewed from the condensate cup of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger can then be carefully pulled out of the unit.

Any deposits or blockages in the drainage line and in the odour trap have to be removed. The condensate cup has to be cleaned with a damp cleaning cloth.

After completion of the cleaning an operational test of the condensate drainage with water has to be performed without fail. To do so, the condensate trough has to be filled with sufficient water and it has to be ensured that the entire water that is filled can dependably drain off via the condensate drainage line into the drain pipe. Watertight execution must be ensured.

After re-insertion of the heat exchanger the condensate connecting piece has to be screwed watertight into the condensate cup using sealing

material.

To counteract any odour nuisance or leakages, the odour trap has to be filled with water prior to switching the system back on.
