FunctionAn induction coil is installed beneatheach burner. If a burner is turned on,the coil produces a magnetic field, which operates directly on thecookware bottom and heats it. Theburner is indirectly heated by the heatradiated from the pot.

Burners with induction operate onlywhen cookware with a magnetizablebottom is placed on them, see"Selecting cookware".

The induction considers automaticallythe size of the placed cookware, whichmeans it operates only in the area ofthe surface covered by the cookwarebottom.

The burner does not operate

– when turned on without or withunsuitable cookware (cookwarewithout magnetizable bottom).

– when the bottom diameter of theplaced cookware is too small.

– when the cookware is removed froma turned on burner.

The symbol ß alternating with 0 or thelast set power level will flash in theburner display.

If suitable cookware is placed on theburner within 3 minutes, the ß symbolgoes out.

If no or unsuitable cookware is used, the burner and cooktop are turned offautomatically after 3 minutes.

Do not place knives, forks or spoonsetc., or other metallic items on thecooktop. If the cooktop is switchedon, or if there is residual heatpresent, the metallic items can heatup and cause burning. Rememberthat metallic items can cause theburner to heat up unintentionally!Switch the cooktop off after use.

SoundsWhen operating induction burners, thefollowing sounds can occur dependingon the material of the cookware base:

– Buzzing can be heard at high powerlevels. It will quiet down or go out, when the power level is turned down.

– Crackling occurs when thecookware has a base made fromseveral materials, e.g. sandwichbottom.

– Whistling can occur, whenconnected burners (see "Boosterfunction) are operated on the highestpower level and cookware with abase made from several materialsare used.

– Clicking can occur during electronicswitching operations, especially atlower power levels.

– Whizzing: To extend the electronicdurability, the appliance is fitted witha cooling fan. If the cooktop isintensively used, the fan is turned onand a whirring sounds. The coolingfan will continue to run after thecooktop was turned off.

Induction

Suitable cookware

– Stainless steel with magnetizablebottom

– Enameled steel

– Cast iron

Unsuitable cookware

– Stainless steel with non magnetizablebottom

– Aluminum, copper

– Glass, ceramic, earthenware

If in doubt, whether cookware issuitable for use on the induction, checkby holding a magnet on the cookwarebottom. If the magnet sticks, thecookware is suitable.

To prevent damage to the cooktopdo not use pots and pans with thinbases on this cooktop. Never heatan empty pan unless the panmanufacturer states that you can doso.

Cookware size

For optimum burner use, select the sizeof the cookware so it fits between theinner and outer marking of the burner. Ifthe pot is smaller than the innermarking, the induction may not operate. The burner reacts, as if no cookwarewas placed on it.

Please note that cookware diametersgiven by the manufacturer are usuallythe maximum/upper diameter. For useon the burner the (usually smaller)bottom diameter is important.

Energy saving tips

Using a lid while cooking will minimizethe loss of heat and decrease cookingtime.

^ To remove any limescale deposits ormetallic residue apply ceramiccleanser using a soft cloth or use ashielded scraper blade if necessary.

^ A cleaner with a special additive toprevent water marks and smears onthe ceramic surface may be used.

^ After cleaning, wipe the ceramicsurface with a damp cloth to removeany residue. Cleaner residues coulddamage the cooktop or create toxicfumes when heated. Finally, dry thecooktop with a clean soft cloth.

^ Any melted solids (e.g. sugar, plastic, syrup, aluminum foil, etc.) should beremoved as quickly as possible andwhile the burner is still warm. If theyare allowed to harden, the cooktopmay become pitted. Scrape themelted item off the cooktop using ashielded scraper blade. Once thecooktop has cooled, remove anyremaining residue using a ceramiccooktop cleaner.

Cut out^ Make the countertop cut-out following

the dimensions given in theillustration.Remember to maintain a minimumdistance of 2" (50 mm) between therear wall on the right or left side. Seealso "IMPORTANT SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS".

^ Seal the cut surfaces with a suitablesealant to avoid damage caused bymoisture. The materials used must be heatresistant.

If, during installation, the seal aroundthe frame does not sit flush with thecountertop on the corners, thecorner radius (maximum 3/16",4 mm) can be carefully filed down tofit. A respective seal tape ensures anon-slip fit of the cooktop in thecut-out. The gap between frame andcooktop will be reduced over time.

Installing the cooktop^ Feed the power cord down through

the cut-out and connect theappliance to the power supply.

^ Insert the cooktop in the middle ofthe cut-out. When doing so makesure that the cooktop seal sits tightlyon the countertop to ensure a correctseal is provided. Do not use sealant.

^ Connect the cooktop to the powersupply.

^ Check the cooktop by turning it on.
