Opening Multiple Browser Tabs (January 2011) Page 1 of 5 Opening & Switching Between Multiple Browser Tabs The best way to use the E-Track training materials is to have one browser tab with your training materials visible and another browser tab with E-Track open. This makes it easy to quickly switch back and forth between reading/viewing the training instructions and trying it yourself in the system. This same technique will work well even after you’re familiar with E-Track usage, as it will allow you to have separate browser tabs open simultaneously to access Sharepoint files, the Add/Edit Person webforms, and other E-Track-related links while you are working within E-Track in another browser tab. If you’re unfamiliar with using browser tabs, the next few pages will walk you through it.

Opening & Switching Between Multiple Browser Tabs The best way to use the E-Track training materials is to have one browser tab with your training materials visible and another browser tab with E-Track open.

To begin, open your Internet browser. We are using Firefox in this example. Once open, click on the plus sign (circled below) on the small tab next to the tab identifying your default browser homepage. This will open a second browser tab from which you can navigate to a second website.

In your new browser tab, try navigating to the E-Track Test Environment Administrator Login Page: https://e-track-qa.teds.com/teds/. Notice in the resulting window below that you now have two separate websites open in two separate labeled tabs: one with the Google search page (my default homepage) and a second with the E-Track Test Environment Administrator Login Page. You can easily toggle between the open sites by clicking on their labeled tab. You could even open more tabs by continuing to click the plus sign in the small tab to the right of your open tabs.

To show how to use tabs to facilitate learning E-Track, click on your first tab (Google Search Page in this example) and then navigate to the E-Track Administrator Training Page: http://www.ocwtp.net/e-track/admintrng.html . Having both the E-Track training page and the E-Track test environment open on separate tabs allows you to toggle between viewing training instructions and practicing what you’re learning.

It’s important to note that another nice thing about working in browser tabs is that you can close an individual browser tab without closing your entire browser window. To close an individual tab, simply click on the “x” at the right of that tab’s label.
