Solution Overview High Level Solution Description:

• Shareable Ink Practice Cloud allows clinicians and patients to use “natural” tools, such as iPads and digital pen and paper, to populate the Allscripts EHR. It can be used with any specialty-, state- or practice-specific form to quickly document and capture discrete data - at the point of care or even in the waiting room. It can be used by any clinician in a practice as well as by patients filling out medical history and consent forms. It is particularly popular among specialists whose documentation styles don’t easily lend themselves to typing, such as ophthalmologists, dermatologists, allergists and physical therapists, among others.

Healthcare/Business problem addressed:• Many physicians experience a drop in productivity – and thus revenues – when transitioning

from fast and familiar handwritten documentation to keying data into an EHR. For certain specialties, this is compounded by workflows or documentation styles that do not lend themselves to typing into a computer.

• When a practice moves to a paperless environment with an EHR, the areas where paper forms still persist become challenging to deal with. Patient-generated forms have to be entered into the EHR. Scanning is labor-intensive, not always timely, and the information is not captured in a useable way, yet the alternative -- typing the patient history into the EHR --requires even more time, usually of clinical personnel.

Solution Overview - continued The application developed addresses the following

category: Applications that improve management of high cost chronic

diseases. Innovative approaches to addressing value-based care

imperatives. Both

Usability and Design Shareable Ink Practice Cloud can be used wherever paper remains within a healthcare organization. Data

collected on paper forms will be integrated as discrete data elements into the Allscripts systems, which allows for

reporting, trending, and predicting outcomes. This will aid in increasing the quality of care delivered to the patient

population while simultaneously reducing costs.

Common use cases include:• Provider Documentation with Quality Capture & Charge Generation

• General inpatient rounding

• Emergency department

• Anesthesia

• Nursing – e.g. ED, Rehab, OR, Dialysis, LTC

• Ambulatory office visit notes

• Orders

• Superbill• Patient Documentation

• Signature Capture

• Medical History

• Registration with Eligibility Check

Case Study: Meaningful Use Achieved with Pen and Paper within Allscripts EHR Customer: The Center for Orthopedics, EMH Healthcare

Challenges: Capture patient information including Meaningful Use

data with no impact to registration operations or

physician productivity. Provide the patient with an

improved check in experience.

Considerations: Add more staff, bubble sheets, kiosks, digital pen

and paper

Outcomes:

No loss in productivity Immediate access to Meaningful Use data Improved patient experience

“ As I had hoped, with a little innovative,

outside-the-box thinking, we succeeded in

getting technology to work for us without

changing our practice to suit the technology.”

Integration Description Shareable Ink has deep integration with almost every clinical

field in the Allscripts database. It uses the Allscripts UAI/Unity

API. It pulls schedule, demographic and current clinical data

from the EHR and sends discrete data elements back to the

EHR. These data elements can be anything typically captured

on a form, including past/family/social history, review of

systems, Meaningful Use data, problems, and more. Images of

the completed forms are also transferred as PDFs into the EHR

and automatically indexed to the correct patient, date of service,

and form type.

Refer to next slide for visual diagram of the data integration.8

Why this solution be selected! Shareable Ink was created on a belief in clinically-rich documentation to drive better

healthcare outcomes and cost management. The Shareable Ink approach leverages

cloud computing and natural input tools to support physicians and liberate data.

Further, it is the only solution that has been integrated at the field level with both

Allscripts Enterprise and Professional editions. Provider benefits include: • Productivity is maintained by using the most natural, least disruptive form of data

input – pen and paper• Visit documentation is quick and completed in the exam room – no need to go to

an office to dictate or type• Patient-generated information can auto-populate the EHR as discrete, useable

data• Minimal training is required for providers, staff and patients alike. Anyone who can

write with a pen already knows how to use Shareable Ink• Pen and paper is the most inconspicuous form of documentation in the exam

room, creating no barrier between physician and patient
