3/16 Guide to using the Streaming and recording a conference

Open Videopresence Advanced October 2020 edition

1. Presentation

This guide provides an overview of the options of the Open Videopresence Advanced

service for streaming and/or recording conferences.

Only an organiser (participant who has the organiser code for the meeting) can stream

and/or record the conference.

Open Videopresence Advanced can produce a Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP)

multimedia flow dedicated to Content Delivery Network (CDN)) distribution services

such as Wowza, Adobe, VBrick, Quickchannel, Qumu and Azure Media Services, as

well as public streaming services such as YouTube, Facebook Live and Periscope.

Any conference can be streamed as a live event with an unlimited number of viewers

and can be automatically recorded and stored for subsequent broadcast.

If a conference contains presentational content, the organiser can decide to stream the

video content and the presentation separately. This means that participants can

individually access the main video feed and/or the presentation feed.

2. Requirements

To be able to stream or record a conference, the organiser must:

Have a virtual room

Have the Open Videopresence web client or application

Have an account (YouTube, Facebook, etc.) and the service must be correctly

configured

Obtain an address on which the conference will be streamed

3. Type of streaming

The providers YouTube/Facebook/Periscope, etc. delay the feed so that it can tolerate

brief connection drop-outs and provide a good experience.

Streaming is therefore delayed by 20 to 30 seconds compared with real time.

This is standard streaming behaviour.

3.1. Conference streamed on a single feed

There is automatic switching between the main video feed and the presentation feed.

When someone is presenting, the participants' video is displayed in a small window in

the upper-right corner of the presentation.

3.2. Conference streamed on two feeds

Viewers must manually switch between the main video feed and the presentation feed,

as desired (however, viewers can watch the feeds in two separate windows: one

window showing the main video feed and the other window showing the presentation

feed).

The main video feed is not included as a small window in the presentation

feed.

If no one is presenting, Open Videopresence Advanced sends an image to

the presentation feed.

The event is created as two separate recordings, which are not synchronised.

3.3. Streaming indicators

Participants in a conference being streamed or recorded will see the following

indicators:

Page 6: Open Videopresence Advanced Streaming and recording a

Open Videopresence Advanced October 2020 edition

An icon will appear next to the name of each call to YouTube (which

usually takes the form of the URL to which the feed is sent).

A streaming icon is displayed to the right of the main video screen every

two minutes and whenever a new participant joins the conference. If not, this

icon briefly appears and displays the text "Streaming enabled" to inform all of

your participants that the meeting is being recorded or streamed.

4. Example of recording with YouTube

To log in to YouTube, you must have a Google account, which works with all Google

products (e.g. Gmail, Blogger, Maps, YouTube and many others).

If you have used one of these products previously, this means that you already have a

Google account. To log in, enter the email address you used to access these products.

If you use Gmail, this will be your Gmail username. If you do not have a Google

account, you can create one on YouTube.
