A word from the Editor:

Hello and welcome to the second

issue of Open Source Plus Trilogy

magazine.

This issue should advance your

knowledge to include more

complicated stuff on computers

like running virtual Drives and so

on. Don’t worry though; I have

simplified the step which should

be no problem to understand by

beginners.

Also note that the previous issue

will be updated in order to fix

some small alignments. Nothing

regarding the information, nothing

big so don’t worry.

Updating Windows: Updating Windows is easy

provided you know how and why.

Updating your Original Legal Copy

is mostly a good idea. Never the

less, sometimes however its best

that you don’t select that

particular update to be installed

along with others.

Keep in mind that windows

update can take allot of time

downloading on slow connections

and take some hard disk space, so

make sure you’re ready.

To start windows update, follow

the bellow steps:

Click on the Start Orb

Click on All Programs

Open Windows Update

A screen similar to this one will

appear. Depending how outdated

your system is, the list of

important and optional updates

will show.

Now it’s best to keep the

important updates updated but in

rare cases such as “Serves Pack”

it’s best to leave it unchecked as it

can slow your system down. Install

it only if you have enough space or

need to by other software.

Optional updates includes

languish packs some other

updates. Select only what you

think you need. You can always

install the rest later.

Burn CDs/DVD: Burning CDs and DVDs is a term

used to describe putting files into

the CD or DVD.

First of all, you will need a CD/DVD

burning Drive on your PC or

Laptop but don’t worry; most of

them should have it as standard

these days.

Look for the “RW” logo on the side

of the drive with “CD/DVD

Rewritable”.

But what’s drive without the

software to use? I know that in

Windows 7 you can burn files

straight into the disk without

external software but I still

strongly recommend that you

download the following:

CD Burner XP

It’s a FREE do it all regarding CDs

and DVDs! The only thing that is

missing is the Virtual Drive option

but don’t worry, we will get to

that part later.

Burn anything from normal image

files to mp3s to ISOs.

A must have software that is also

light on resources for every

computer owner.

Virtual Drives: Virtual Drive is just like normal

CD/DVD drive, except that its

digital. Still confused? I know you

are.

In order to understand VD, you

need to know what it is used for.

The answer is simple, to mount

ISOs. What is an ISO? A digital

CD/DVD image file. The file

contains the entire Disk’s

information in a single file. When

mounting the ISO, the computer

thinks it’s an actual physical

CD/DVD.

Hotmail/Live email to login.

Email Clients: Let’s say you have more than one

email account on different serves

and want to check them

Video Editing: Video Editing is not that hard once

you get used to it. No simple Free

software is more appealing then

Microsoft Movie Maker 2.6.

with the new downgraded movie

maker for some unknown reason

Edits and put together your video
