Socks That Fit

You spent hours knitting a pair of socks--only to find that they droop around your ankles or pinch your toes. Join Mary Ellen and learn how to knit socks that fit you perfectly. At the first session, we’ll learn how precise foot measurements and an accurate gauge swatch combine to produce a great fitting sock. We’ll discuss stitch patterns, and we’ll cast on for your cuff or your toe. At the second session, we’ll make the heel. At the final session, we’ll finish the sock. We’ll also discuss toe construction, grafting, ribbing, and stretchy bind-offs. NOTE: This class is for toe-up and cuff-down sock knitters. Needle users of all persuasions (DPNs, 2 circulars, magic loop) are welcome. Previous sock-knitting experience is very helpful. $48 Supplies: Yarn: Purchase enough yarn in fingering weight, DK, or worsted weight yarn for one pair of socks. Needles: Wait until the first class to

buy your needles OR bring a range of sizes in your chosen needle style that are appropriate for your yarn weight. Accessories: A 6” or 12” ruler, stitch markers, Stitch Keepers or other “stitch stoppers” to hold your project together. Tuesdays, July 19, Aug. 2, & Aug 16, 6-9 PM.

Surprise Squares Blanket If you're a newer knitter looking to learn about stitches, or an experienced knitter looking for some new ideas to play with, this is the class for you. Cindy Decker-Raynak will take you through a new square every month until February. You will end up having a beautiful and unique blanket! $60 Supplies: You will be directed to download a “Surprise Square” pattern every month from the Rowan website. If you have any trouble, please come see us. We suggest a yarn such as Cascade 220 Superwash, or Ella Rae Cozy Soft. If you use different colors, you can buy it as you need it. You will also need a size 7 needle (or one that will give you gauge). Wednesdays, June 8, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 7, Sept. 28, Nov. 2, Nov. 30, Jan. 11, Feb. 8, 6:30-9 PM.

Cynthia loves sweater knitting, and she’ll help you through the process with enthusiasm. This class is for everyone, from new beginners knitting a simple raglan sweater, through advanced knitters working on cables or Fair Isle. $48 Supplies: Talk with us about patterns and yarn before class. Note that there are three separate sessions, two day and one night. Tuesdays, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 15, Dec. 13, 9-noon, OR Wednesdays, Aug. 3, Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Nov. 16, & Dec. 14, 9-noon, OR Thursdays, Aug. 4, Sept. 8, Oct. 6, Nov. 17, & Dec. 15, 6-9 PM.

You will need about 1 yard each of complementing fabrics. Thursdays, June 9 & 16, 6-9 PM. Row by Row Workshop

Each year, there is an event in the quilting world called Row by Row Experience. It started with New York State about 8 years ago, spread to Pennsylvania, and is now worldwide! Quilters shop hop across the country and get rows (only in person!) at quilt shops. The theme for this year is home sweet home—and our own shop is all about rock 'n roll houses! This workshop will teach you how to fuse and embellish the row. To give us a little elbow room, we are holding it at the Hilton Garden Inn and having lunch catered by Harrison's. It will be a wonderful day! $55 includes lunch. Supplies: Buy a row kit before the workshop. Bring along all your basic sewing supplies, and about a yard of fusible material of some type: We love EZ Steam II because you can move the pieces around until the final pressing. Heat and Bond Lite also works well. (Also backing & batting.) Sunday, Aug. 7, 9 AM-5 PM.
