Students may arrive at 7:15 a.m. Students enter classrooms at 7:50 a.m. Tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. (a student

entering the building any time after 8:00 a.m. will be counted tardy – parents must sign student in at the front desk)

3 or more tardies will constitute an absence for the perfect attendance award.

Anyone other than the legal parent/guardian MUST be indicated on the emergency card in order to pick up a child.

Changes in dismissal procedures require a written note from the parent / guardian. Notes should be given to the teacher first thing in the morning.

Please DO NOT e-mail changes, as teachers check their e-mail at the end of the instructional day.

For EMERGENCIES ONLY phone calls advising the office of transportation changes must be called no later then 1:45 p.m.

Three or more early withdrawals in a grading period will constitute an absence for perfect attendance awards.

Absences are calculated for days and “parts of days.” Please see student handbook for details.

Drop Off Procedures

Student Drop Off in front of building ONLY beginning at 7:15 a.m. No staff member will be available to assist students out of cars until 7:30 a.m.

Please pull up as far as possible in the car rider drop – off lane. Staff members are present to assist students starting at 7:30 a.m.

Do NOT drop students off in the parking lot.

Dismissal Procedures

Car riders - You will need a sign posted in your windshield with your child’s name and grade on it (even returning students). Please have the tag in the window.

Walkers/Bikers – Teachers will walk students to the end of the driveway. Parents will meet them at the marquee. On bad weather days students will automatically be car riders.

Day Care – Please notify your child’s day care if he or she is absent from school. Please notify your child’s teacher if there is a change in your child’s day care arrangements.

Lunch

Manage your child’s lunch account online at www.pearlandisd.org.

Student lunches are $2.25; breakfasts are $1.25.

PIN# is the student’s school ID number

Students are not allowed to charge lunches if there is no money in account.

Free and Reduced lunch eligibility must be reapplied for at the beginning of each school year.

Parents are welcome to eat with their child during their lunch time starting September 9th.

Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value

The Texas Department of Agriculture has created nutritional guidelines for Texas public schools.

Schools may not provide foods of minimal nutritional value to students at any time during the school day, with the exception of the three authorized school parties.

Birthday treats may not be given during lunch. Cupcakes will be allowed for student birthdays. Please drop off at the front desk with the child’s name and teacher’s name. The teacher will distribute treats to the students at the end of the school day. (No favors or balloons, please.)

Dress Code

Pearland ISD has established a standardized dress code for students. Please be advised that at each occurrence of dress code violation, the student will be issued a consequence.

A copy of the dress code is available in the Pearland ISD Student Code of Conduct Handbook, as well as on the district web site. Additional copies may also be obtained at the front office as needed.

Magnolia Spirit Shirts may be worn five days a week. College Shirts may be worn on Fridays only.

Grading Policy

Daily grades and test grades will be taken in major content areas.

Students who make below a 70 on any paper will correct the paper in class and can receive a grade up to a 70.

Please sign all papers sent home with a grade of 70 or below and return them to your child’s teacher.

Students are considered failing if they make below a 70% in reading, math and language at the end of the nine week grading period.

An overall average below 70% in any of these subjects at the end of the year will result in failure for the year which is retention.

3rd Grade Progress Reports/ Report Cards

Progress reports go home twice each nine week period and report cards at the end of the nine weeks. Please sign and return as quickly as possible.

Computer generatedSkyward Family Access is available for

parents to check their child’s attendance and grades. It is the same log in for access to all of your children within our district. If you did not already receive log in information at Packet Return, please see your teacher.

Homework Folder

Generally, homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and consists of assignments such as spelling, math and reading.

We encourage that your child reads for 20 minutes each night.

The packet is sent home on Mondays with the homework for the entire week in their homework folder. Please look for this folder each night.

You may also find the spelling words on the peek of the week.

Tuesday Folder

Important notes and graded papers will be sent home every Tuesday.

Please review the papers and return the empty folder on Wednesday.

After you have reviewed the papers, please sign the slip in the Tuesday folder and return any papers with a 70 or below signed.

All other notes or papers are to be kept at home.

Snacks

Your child may bring healthy foods that are easy to eat (no utensils).

Grapes, Cheerios, vegetable sticks, pretzels, crackers, raisins, and granola bars are good choices.

They may bring clear water.

STAAR Testing Approximate Dates

Math STAAR Test April 22nd Reading STAAR Test April 23rd

Please note the campus is closed on these testing dates. More information to come in the spring.

Benchmark testing will be done throughout the year to monitor progress. The campus is also closed on these days.

The following Wednesdays are early release days for the students so the district can prepare for STAAR testing:

This year we will be asking for $2 prior to each party.

Odds and Ends

Please read “Peek of the Week.” No toys or rolling backpacks Label your child’s belongings (clothing,

backpacks, lunches) Parents are encouraged to volunteer.

Please fill out the “Criminal Background” form for volunteers located on the PISD website. It must be updated every year.

We only accept cash for party money and field trip money.
