Assistance Help Soldiers by addressing their issues - remove barriers to

It’s against the Law (10 USC 1034) to take an Unfavorable Personnel Action (UPA) or Withhold a Favorable Action in reprisal for making a Protected Communication
BUT “nothing in AR 20-1 will dissuade commanders from taking timely and appropriate actions for legitimate reasons” (Independent Basis)

DON’T Overlook violations of Law, Policy or Regulation Restrict soldiers from reporting issues, concerns, violations Punish for reporting problems Be “Old School” (Firmness is fine…fairness matters too)
DO Encourage the full use of the chain of command Have an open door policy Hold soldiers accountable Share information (no info = rumors/conspiracy theories) Take action for appropriate, justifiable reasons
