OBITUARY. MRS. J: H. K. TODD.

It is with great regret that we record the death of Mrs. Todd, who passed away on 'eptember 12. A goodly number of e,uth Place and other friends assembled at the crematorium at Golders Green on Saturday, September 16, to express their sympathy with Mr. J. H. K. Todd and to pay a last tribute of love and respect te, a valued member who before her marriage had spent much of her time in the service of Our Society. Mr. H. Smith \Vebster and the South Place choir were responsible for the musical portion of the service, which included Hymn 66, "There are lonely hearts to cherish"; the anthem, "The Choir Invisible" (Jusephine Troup); Ase's Death (Grieg), and Chopin's Funeral March. The address was delivered by Mr. Samuel Fen ton, who reminded us that Miss Kate Jarrett was born in Hackney, and early in life derived liberal ideas on religion from a chapel which was then under the guidance of Allanson Picton. Fe,r her life work she took up what should be considered the noblest of all professions, that e,f education . Of more than ordinary ability she dis tingui hed herself pa~ticularly in mathematics .and music, and in course e,f time she was appolllted to the staff of, and later became head teacher of, a training centre for pupil teachers. FinalJy she became head mistress of a higher grade school. At South Place she was fe,r many years an active worker. Her love of music found scope as a member for eight years of the Concert Committee. She also helped in arranging the music for the unday Services and often assisted in the choir. She served on the General Committee and the Institute Committee, was Secretary of the SOiree Committee, and for six years Secretary of the Magazine Cummittee, nor must we forget her fifteen years' work at t he Chesterton Girls' Club. At outh PIa e she met as a fellow-worker and married our uld friend Mr. John H. K. Todd, who has given so much of his time and energy tu the service of our c.ciety. Their years of domestic happiness were clouded towards the end by the long and painful illness, patiently borne, which has now taken her fT~m our midst. 'Ve mourn the loss uf a good woman who gave of her best to the Society she loved , and to her husband we tender our sympathy and respect.

MRS. THEODORE WRIGHT. 'Ye regret· to ann&unce the death of another member and active

worker of South Place. Mrs. T heodore Wright, e,f Abbey Road, N.W., passed away on September 12 in her 82nd year. It was not until middle life that Mrs. Wright's powers as an actress were publicly disclosed, when she first appeared in Ibsen's plavs with remarkable success. During the eighties and nineties she appeared frequently, and her excellent rendering of the characters and her engag-in/! personality roused great enthusiasm. Mrs. \Vright was generous in the help she gave to young actresses and was always willing to manage amateur perfurmances. Tt was during the time she belon£(E'd to the Soiree Committee that many excellent plavs were given in South Place under her auspices. E . H. M.
