The JV boys won their game 42-31. “We played well,” remarked Tribune coach Josh Gooch. “It helped that we finally had everybody available. And it helped that the ball went in the hole better than in some of our early games.” Jaxson Brandl was hot from the floor in the first half. “They were giving him space and he was able to knock them down,” remarked coach Gooch. Jaxson had 10 first quarter points and three 3s in the second quarter. Titus Sherer had 4 first half points, and Valentin Villalobos hit a first quarter 3. Tribune led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter but Triplains got hot in the 2nd quarter with 24 points and took a 32-29 lead at the half. Triplains shot 77% from the field in the first half. In the second half, Cade Mangan stepped up with 8 third quarter points. Isaac Schneider hit a 3 and Sherer had an old-fashion three point play and the Jackrabbits trailed by three 45-48 going into the final period. There were a lot of fourth quarter fouls. The Jackrabbits shot 18 fourth quarter fouls and the Titans shot 11. Mangan hit a fourth quarter three and Valentin and Jesus hit 2s to give Tribune a lead. Tribune scored 15 fourth quarter points to 7 by Triplains to win 60-55. “They had an explosive 2 nd quarter,” remarked coach Gooch, “but they got in foul trouble in the 4 th quarter.” “Everybody stepped up and had fun,” remarked Gooch. “Jacob Miller was effective on defense and Valentin Villalobos played well on both defense and on the offensive end. For not playing for 22 days, everyone played well. “We won’t have to see Triplains/Brewster again since we are in a different sub-state. We will play in the Dighton sub-state with Otis-Bison, Wheatland / Grinnell, Western Plains, Sharon and Weskan.” In the JV boys’ game at Winona, the Jackrabbits took a 12-3 lead in the first quarter but trailed 16-15 at the half. Jariath Yanez had the hot hand in the 3 rd quarter with 13 points for the Jackrabbits for a 29-21 lead. Tribune was 7 of 10 from the line in the final period for the 42-31 win.
