A WORD FROM PASTOR KENNETHA WORD FROM PASTOR KENNETHA WORD FROM PASTOR KENNETH

I am blessed at home. Just this morning, I have had a nice walk with our dog, Brutus, a prayer of thanksgiving, a freshshower and shave, two cups of coffee with French Vanilla, breakfast with wife, Sherri, and conversations with our housebuilders and inspector. I am thankful that the foundation of our home at 440 Letlough Road is complete and we are nowready to begin the floor system. I feel truly blessed already, and it is only 9 AM. I am blessed to worship with you. Our 86th Homecoming Worship / Celebration yesterday was meaningful. It is good forus to remember the legacy of our brothers and sisters who have now went home to be with Jesus! The Choir special, “SettledAt the Cross”, featuring soloist, Murphy Pilson McNeill was powerful. I like the phrase, “every drop of blood testifies of grace”. Istill believe the blood of Jesus is adequate to atone for the sin of humankind, past, present and future. Surely God loves youand me, and the blood takes away any doubt. The sermon series, “Jewels from Joseph’s Journey” in Genesis is compelling tome and I trust it is to you. What a rough homecoming these sinful brothers of Joseph had to face! I am blessed in the church office. Most of the time on Monday, the office staff and I get together and share a time ofprayer, updates from the weekend, calendaring and communicating on various issues related to the over-all well being of thechurch. I want you to know that I am honored to work closely with God-called, compassionate, capable and committedindividuals. Through the wall I can hear Pastor Greg playing music, singing, and rehearsing. Through the opposite wall, I hearPastor Lance listening to a lecture, and sharpening his theological insight. Just outside my office door I hear Ms. Becky keyingin financial records from yesterday’s tithes and offerings. It is a joy for me to work with this team and most importantly thesebrothers and sisters in Christ. I believe the Lord is pleased when there is mutual love, respect, and appreciation in his localchurch and this is certainly the case in FBC Robbins. Pray that your ministerial staff will grow closer, stronger, and deeper inthe bonds of trust. “Father in Heaven, let this trust be contagious throughout the congregation.” I am blessed in the written word of God. In I Timothy 1:3 we find Paul saying to young Timothy, “As I urged you upon mydeparture to Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus, in order that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines.” Timothy was being tested, as we all are at times. Timothy needed encouragement. I believe Timothy was under tremendouspressure and was tempted to get out of Ephesus while he could, but with encouragement from his mentor and dear friend,he stayed the course. With encouragement we can stay the course that God has laid before us. When we know we are calledby God, we can stick, stay, serve, and be encouraged as we labor together. John Trent, in his book, Choosing to Live the Blessing, shares a story by Sister Helen Mrosia. She writes about the power ofpeer encouragement….In an earlier class I had taped Mark’s mouth shut for talking too much. Now he was one of my students in junior high math. His classhad worked hard all week and by Friday the students were getting cranky. So, for a break, I asked them to write the nicest thing they

could think of about each other as students and hand it in. I compiled the results for each student and, on Monday, gave out the lists. Several years later, Mark was killed in Vietnam. After the funeral, most of his former classmates gathered with Mark's parents andme for lunch. Mark's father took a wallet out of his pocket and said, "They found this on Mark when he was killed." He carefullyremoved a folded, refolded, and taped paper—the one on which I'd listed the good things Mark's classmates had said about him.Charlie smiled sheepishly and said, "I keep my list in my desk drawer."Chuck's wife said, "Chuck put his in our wedding album.""I have mine, too," Marilyn said, "in my diary."Vicky reached into her pocketbook and brought out her frazzled list. Wow, years had past, yet these former students held on to these, kind and affirming words from their classmates! I am blessed to know you. Thanks for your ministry of encouragement! Don’t forget, a little encouragement goes a longway and can last a long time.

Blessed in Christ, Pastor Kenneth

Dear Friends, It is Monday morning, September 20, 2021 and once again, early in the week, Imarvel at God’s goodness. In fact, Monday morning is normally a good time for me to reflect on the weekend, the previous week, and God’s blessings. Let me share with you briefly why I know I amtruly blessed.

Greetings Church Family, Recently, Pastor Kenneth, in the sermon series, “Jewels from Joseph’s Journey",compared the tragedies of Job and Joseph. For a brief moment I was gripped by the HolySpirit. I began to think of the followers of Jesus Christ, who suffered, sacrificed, and weremartyred for the advancement of the kingdom. Men like Stephen, Paul, and the otherapostles. I began to think of other examples of men and women who put their faith ondisplay; Lottie Moon, Adoniram Judson, William Carey, and others.

Job faced many hardships with tragedy after tragedy as described in Job 1. One phrase reveals wave after wave ofpersonal devastation. The phrase, “While yet he was yet speaking, there came another.” In minutes, possessions gone, livestock gone. servants gone, sons gone, and daughters gone too. In a brief time, Job lost almost everything! ConsiderJob's response to these tragedies. The text says, "When Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on theground and worshiped. And he said, 'Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.' " I find many biblical examples of suffering and sacrifice. In comparison to Job's comprehensive tragedies, youngJoseph experienced separation and loss at the hands of his evil brothers. Young David suffered deeply at the whims ofKing Saul. Apostle Paul was shipwrecked, beaten, and misunderstood. Apostle John was exiled to the pain of Patmos.William Carey, know as the "Father of Modern Missions, lost his kids and his wife to mental health issues, yet heremained steadfast in his God-given mission. Missionary Lottie Moon gave all her food away in the midst of a famine. Sheunderstood that her mission called for personal sacrifice. As the church of the living God, do we understand our mission? "This light momentary affliction is not worthcomparing to an eternity with our Lord. (2nd Corn. 5:17) We are faced with many challenges and trails throughout life, yet it should be a complete joy to serve the Lord through trails. It is not without purpose. It is working for us in eternalweight in Glory. Let us joyfully continually to serve Him regardless of these outside circumstances. Amen.

This month’s song is “Scars in Heaven” by Casting Crowns. Mark Hall, the lead singer, references the biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection in Luke. He explained that when Jesus wasraised from the dead, His disciples were in shock because He was gone, and now He was back.To comfort them, Hall added that Jesus showed them His scars as a reminder of who He was. This song is a comfort for those who have lost loved ones. We, as Christians, need toremember that we will one day see Him face to face and notice His nail-pierced hands.

Jesus Appears to the DisciplesLuke: 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why dodoubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh andbones, as you see I have.”

Scars in Heaven by Casting CrownsIf I had only known the last time would be the last time I would have put off all the things I had to do I would have stayed a little longer, held on a little tighter Now what I’d give for one more day with you

Cause there’s a wound here in my heart wheresomething's missing And they tell me that it’s going to heal with time But I know you're in a place where all your wounds havebeen erased And knowing yours are healed is healing mine

The only scars in heaven, they won’t belong to me and you There'll be no such thing as broken and all the old will bemade new

And the thought that makes me smile now even as thetears fall down Is that the only scars in heaven are on the Hands thathold you now

I know the road you walked was anything but easy You picked up your share of scars along the way But now you’re standing in the sun, you’ve fought yourfight and your race is run The pain is all a million miles away There’s not a day goes by that I don’t see you You live on in all the better parts of me Until I’m standing with you in the sun, I'll fight this fight and this race I’ll run Until I finally see what you can see
