Keeping up with kids these days is no easy feat: hot memes, abstruse emojis, TikTok tricks… And the need to

adapt has become more stringent due to the sudden massive shift towards online language teaching.

This workshop is not a comprehensive guide to understanding Internet culture. Instead, it aims at

Robert Martínez has worked in the field of English Language teaching and teacher

training in Colombia, Italy, The UK, Canada, Singapore, Egypt, Spain, Bulgaria,

Vietnam and Romania since 1994.

He speaks Italian and Spanish at C2 level, French and Portuguese at B1 level and

is currently the Director at Lacunza IH Beasain where he is also a teacher trainer

and teacher. During his career he has trained teachers in many countries,

assessed and moderated Cambridge Teaching Awards and Exams all over the

world, presented for Cambridge in Italy, taken part in teacher training programmes

and provided consultancy for teachers of English as a foreign language.

He is particularly interested in language learning and technology and holds the DELTA, TheConsultants-e

Trinity-validated CertICT (Distinction), a Post Graduate Dip in TESOL, an MA TESOL (Merit), an MA Digital

Technologies for Language Teaching (Double Distinction) and a Post Graduate Dip in Academic

Management (Distinction). He is Lead tutor on the the TheConsultants-e.com CertICT, CertIBET, Teaching

Live Online and E-moderation courses, and also tutors on the IH Online Certificate in Teaching Young

Learners and Teens and is currently completing a series of MOOCS on FutureLearn!

The aim of this session is to explore the tools that can make teaching online as fun and engaging as teaching

face-to-face. We'll be looking at attention grabbing activities, based on three key concepts of communicative

online teaching and learning: use of visuals, task-based learning and the flipped classroom, so you can

experience techniques that you can take away and implement in your own virtual classrooms for more

interactive, motivating and student-centred lessons.

Julie is an enthusiastic CELTA, Delta and CLIL trainer. She's taught EFL and

ESL at all levels and comes from a background of teaching Business English in

a one-to-one context.

Throughout her career, she has nurtured an interest in experience design and

has been an active member of the teaching and training team in schools on two

continents, constantly innovating and experimenting with lots of variations in

relation to course design, schedule, teaching practice delivery and trainee

group social dynamics on CELTA, Delta and CLIL courses.
