You own the content and information that you post i.e. Photo’s , comments, posts, status updates...

BUT........

Facebook has the right to use all your content or information

Facebook does NOT guarantee that your information will be “safe and secure” (Facebook, 2011, 15.3)

Your privacy may be compromised&

your identity stolen

Especially If.....

You leave your privacy settings to public

Public settings of your content =Everyone can access & use your information

If you delete your facebook account your content will be deleted

Except.....

When you have shared content with someone else, like a post or photo

And......

facebook keeps a backup copy “for a reasonable period of time”

And remember.....

Facebook has a habit of regularly changing their “terms of use”e.g. In 2009 users information that Facebook was to use for marketing etc was not going to expire after an account was deleted (Hayes, 2009, p.40)

Backlash from this resulted in Facebook, revoking changes

Facebook has a tendency to censor & has too much power as an online curatore.g. New York Academy of Art had drawings removed from page as they were drawings of figurative art (Helft, 2011, p.4)
