Login: ‘Administrators’ can edit parameters and change trap locations. ‘Users’ can enter pest trap data, see trap locations on a map, and data analysis.


Set-up: Choose the background and other layers. The coordinates and scale are seen below the map.

Tool bars

Use the tool bar above the map to zoom in to an area of interest and see the trap locations (blue points).

The map will automatically pan to a site if this box is checked

The ‘Check Entry’ screen is a record of actions in the field. It is

saved automatically.

Entries should be made whether or not a catch was found. Bait and hardware on a record do not relate to catches for that event– the system always goes back to the previous data entry to find these


Trap check data entry: The minimum details required are the name of trapper, date (using date-picker) and choice of trap line (using a drop-down menu)

You can select all traps on the line for the same treatment by checking this box


Trap check data entry: Drop-down gives alternatives for a trap line, like these ‘Even rows’ have ‘Lure’ applied


Trap check data entry: Drop-down used to find those sites which have not yet been recorded. Useful for lines with numerous traps.

Trap check data entry: Bulk update by ‘Apply to selected traps’ to create a record of traps with similar treatments, a bulk entry.

Note, those traps which still require their details to be completed are highlighted in green


Trap check data entry: There are various drop-down menus to use.

When selected, the description changes its colour to blue. Then click ‘apply to selected traps’.


Trap check data entry: Add a pest catch record for a

specific trap. Double click the trap in the list ….


Trap check data entry: …. see the full record. Add a new pest catch record for that trap.


Trap check data entry: Add new record Choose from the drop-down menus for catch, number, age and sex. Include any useful comments. ‘Save’, or ‘Save and next’ to go to the next record.

Trap check data entry: Print records Print or download your results from any screen. Choose the date and trap line, and see the results in a new window.

2. Data Entry: Check summary See information for each trap-check date. Click a trap to see location highlighted on map.


Check summary: Double-click individual trap if details need to be changed


Check summary: Print results if required. They open in a new internet window, and can be downloaded, printed or copied.


3. View/edit: Catches Select the period, the catch species and trap line and “Search”


Catches: Select the trap to see position on map


4. View/edit: Trap locations Select ‘Line’ to list the traps, and see the details


Trap locations > click the trap row to see trap location highlighted on the map


Trap locations > double click trap row to see trap details (and to move it if so required)


Trap locations: Add a new trap, on the ‘Parininihi’ trap-line, such as this one designated as number ‘P15’.


A ‘new record’ screen is displayed. Type in the new trap number and create the location by either clicking on the map and moving the point around,


…… or by entering the coordinates in your preferred system. NZTM is used by councils and DOC. Your GPS may show WGS84. Add comments to help trappers.


To set up the tunnel and trap information at a location: Now that you have the trap location, you need to add :

• the tunnel type, • the trap type, • the date it is first set (all the analysis depends on entering this date)

Go to the "Check entry" screen Fill in the details of:

• checked by • bait • tunnel • trap type • pick the installation date • select the line name • apply to selected traps (allows

multiple trap installation)


These screen shots show how the new record is set, and then appears in the list of traps. You can then proceed to record what the traps have caught (See 1: Data Entry).


5. View/edit: Trap checks Select period and trap line, “Search”


Include a trap number to show the full history during the chosen period, and map location


6. Analysis: Catch To see all project catches in a period, select dates, define axes, then ‘Analyse’.


Catch Analysis: Select one bar, ‘stoats’, to see distribution


Catch Analysis: Results on one trap line, select ‘Parininihi’


Catch Analysis: Results on ‘Parininihi’ – explore '13-03 Rat’

Note the total of ‘catch’, ‘no catch’, nights, and catch per 100 trap nights (TN).

Checks are also analysed.


Catch Analysis: Graphical representations. Click on the graph-bar to list its results. On the map, see the scores displayed by hovering over a circle.


7. Analysis: Bait The number of days each bait was used and the number of pests caught using each bait

9. Reduced menu for users, the ‘Trappers’

A reduced menu of features is available to those who login as ‘users’ and enter data for the project.

The screen for ‘trappers’ allows data entry, viewing the trap locations and catches, and analysing the data. No validation lists may be altered nor may traps be moved.
