Registration & Payment Policy: Registration is required to attend class. Payment is due at the time of registration. Payment can be made by mail, phone, and fax, online or in person.

Full or Cancelled Classes Policy: The Community Education Department reserves the right to limit enrollment or cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. For this reason, please register at least one week before class begins to guarantee your class is not cancelled. Every effort will be made to notify students that a class has been filled or cancelled. Students will receive full refunds for full or cancelled classes.

Bad Weather Cancellation Policy: If SVCC cancels classes due to bad weather, Community Education classes will also be cancelled. Cancellations will be announced on area radio, TV stations and on our website, svcc.edu.

Refund & Withdrawal Policy: Withdrawal Policy: Withdrawals must be completed by phone, call 815.835.6212, or in person at the Community Education Department Office, 1F11. Documentation is required for the student withdrawal to be processed. Please leave a message if no one is available to take your call.

Refund Policy: If classes are cancelled due to low enrollment, students will receive a full refund. No refunds will be given to students who do not withdrawal three business days before the first day of class. Business days are Monday through Friday and excludes observed Holidays.

Payment Plan Options:Students may enroll into Sauk’s 6 month payment plan for classes that cost over $500. When students enroll they will need a 15% down payment. The payment will be evenly divided and automatically deducted upon enrollment in the plan.

Emergency Medical Technician Basic course is designed to train police, fire, rescue personnel and persons interested in the techniques of prehospital emergency care. Department of Transportation Required Hazardous Material TrainingThe Department of Transportation requires training for employees receiving or shipping hazardous materials. This training includes 49 CFR hazardous materials table, packaging of materials, shipping papers and other documentation, and recognizing potential hazardous conditions when receiving packages. Participants are encouraged to bring a list of products they ship or receive and samples of shipping papers. DOT Homeland security training is included in the course. RCRA Storage and Shipping of Hazardous Waste and Recycle MaterialsResource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)The RCRA sets forth an approach for handling the volumes of waste generated in the United States every year. Based on the authority granted by RCRA Subtitle C, EPA developed regulations for the cradle-to-grave management of hazardous waste. Persons who produce hazardous waste are called hazardous waste generators and they must receive RCRA training. In compliance with U.S. EPA regulations, this Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training is for individuals who deal with or manage hazardous waste. CDL

TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING – 160 Driving Academy at Sauk Valley Community CollegeTrain to earn your Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and prepare for a career in the trucking industry, one of the fastest growing Industries in the country. With over 300,000 truck-driving jobs available in the United States, this course is designed for students with little or no commercial driving experience.

The Sauk Valley Community College Truck Driver Training Course, provided by the 160 Driving Academy, includes everything you need to earn a CDL and find your first job as a truck driver. After successful completion of the four-week course you will take the Secretary of State administered Class A test and receive certificates from Sauk Valley Community College, 160 Driving Academy as well as an Illinois Commercial Driver’s License from the Secretary of State. Courses start every couple of weeks and runs Monday – Friday; 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Students will be charged an additional non-refundable registration fee for this class. Carrier sponsorship and grant options are available to eligible students to help cover tuition expenses. CDL Refresher CourseGet back on the road with a refresher course. If you have not used your CDL for a period of time, it’s easy to forget skills and laws that dictate your time on the road. If you are ready to get back on the road, this course may be the one for you. Most companies require 40 hours of refresher training when a driver has been out of a truck for a year or more. The 40 hour course is completed in one week, Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Students are required to have an unexpired DOT physical and drug screen within 30 days of starting the program. Cost of the 40 hour refresher course is $1,595. (Ages 18 & Up)

Dental Assisting Program with Clinical ExternshipThe 60 hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry-level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions. Students are familiarized with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provided training in the skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topics – Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting, introduction to the dental office, the legal aspects of dentistry, policies, and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy, dental operatory, dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure, primary and permanent teeth, the oral cavity and related structures, proper patient positioning, dental hand-pieces, sterilization, and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program. Clinical Externship: As part of this Dental Assisting program, you will be eligible to participate in a 40 hour clinical externship. Medical Billing & Coding ProgramThis combined 80 hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. The course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation, and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-10 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals, (CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS). Pharmacy Technician Program with Clinical ExternshipThis comprehensive 50 hour program prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement. National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Pharmacy Technician Certified Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) exam. Phlebotomy Technician Program with Clinical ExternshipThis 90 hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. There will be a 40 hour clinical externship included in this course. Students are required to have scrubs, current physical, and immunizations records for the clinical and the cost of them are NOT included in the cost of the class. The required immunizations are TB, Varicella, MMR, and TDap. The optional immunizations are Hepatitis B and Flu shot (seasonal). Students may choose to take the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam. If chosen, the exam carries the cost of approximately $105 and will be given by the instructor.
