IN APPRECIATION From David Vogeding: My Dearest People of Eastminster, It has taken me awhile to settle down after the exquisite and absolutely beautiful send-off from Eastminster. Wow! What an honor! I was ex-tremely humbled and impressed by the congregational response to my retirement “party” on June 30. I will never forget all the honors, gifts, and overall response, not just on June 30, but throughout the years at Eastminster. You are truly a loving and accepting people that I shall cherish the rest of my life.

I have met and worked with many people over the last 19 plus years and I am truly overwhelmed by the love, understanding, encouragement and acceptance of all the music-loving Christian people who call Eastminster Presbyterian their home.

I will never forget you. I will always remember your love and kindness to me and Carleen. It is my hope and prayer that you will continue to support the music depart-ment as you look forward to extending a hearty welcome to the next Director of Music and Organist. All my love and respect goes out to you.

From Elizabeth & the Preschool Staff: Words cannot ex-press how grateful we are for the enormous support that has been given so effortlessly in preparation of the new school year. We would like to take this opportunity and extend our appreciation to Steve Adams who has generously volun-teered throughout the summer months. Steve has completed many facility tasks that go above and beyond the call of duty. In addition, to his hard work and dedication, we would also like to thank Ed Bowers and Tom Wright for painting Kirk Hall and to Chad and Lisa Morrison who donated new flooring for the preschool lavatories that were in desperate need of replacement. The preschool has never looked better! We appreci-ate your thoughtfulness, generosity and your dedication to our amazing ministry.

From Anne Adams: David’s party was a smashing suc-cess, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t call out some of the folks who helped to make it so. I am always afraid I’ll leave someone out (and if I do, it isn’t on purpose, so please

forgive me). Right from the start I had a great team of folks who jumped in with ideas and suggestions – Claire Gibbs, Harv Hobson, Chad & Lisa Morrison, Susan Vallette, Becky & Jack Rowley, Tangela Copeland, Kathy Hill, Gloria Bauer, Madeline Jacobs, Bunny Nairn…they all were ready and willing to take on the challenge; I definitely couldn’t have done it without them.

Susan and Becky collaborated on the delicious food (it WAS delicious, too, wasn’t it). Susan’s team (I think I counted 9 of them in the kitchen on Saturday) really pulled it all together, and the servers were excellent, too. Becky matted and framed the pic-tures so professionally, and Claire did a huge job of putting the book together – gath-ering everyone’s cards and letters, and wading through mountains of stuff to get just the right remembrance on the pages…not to mention the quilt! I didn’t even have to worry about decorations, as Tangela handled that (as well as a bunch of other not so little details) perfectly. The slide show was a big success, with David’s music playing in the background…what a treat.

The choir stepped up, also…we called a couple of extra rehearsals, and so many showed up…Mary Ellen & Bill Straup even drove all the way from the Carolinas just for the week! Theresa & David Fleener, Tim & June Leech, and Ken Cocker came together to assist with providing the music. Ken’s song was a hit, and Bunny Nairn’s skit was over the top (No, bubba, I’m not bringing donuts)! My marvelous husband Steve, and Tangela’s husband Melvin, stood by us every step of the way; I know those tables and chairs didn’t move themselves.

All in all, it was a great celebration, attended by over 200 people, and major kudos belong to all who helped make it so! As David would say, Hugs and Kisses!

As a native Tennessean Amy Blake graduated from the University of Tennessee in educa-tion. She moved to Winter Park in 1972 where she served as an elder at Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church. Upon moving to Melbourne Beach, Amy has served at Eastminster as co-chair in the ushering program. She also has volunteered in the church office, the Dorcas Program, and His Hands Senior Program. She and her husband, Mason Blake have been members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church since 1992. They have one grown son and two grandsons.

Cindy Earp’s family has lived in Florida for five generations; she was born in Eustis and raised in rural Lake County. After graduating from Barry University, Cindy spent most of her years working in the criminal justice system with the State Attorney’s Office and as a Criminal Justice Officer with Brevard County; she was also appointed County Court Mediator by the Florida Supreme Court, a job she continues to hold.

Cindy spent several years in workforce development, first as a Center Director for the Bre-vard Job Link, and then as the Program Coordinator of Youth Services where she was awarded Supervisor of the Year and recognized as Program of the Year. She retired from BCC (now EFSU) where she was the Program Coordinator for the WENDI Success Center.

She served on the founding board of the Florida Association of Community Corrections and Brevard County’s Domestic Violence Task Force. Cindy received her Management Certification with Brevard County, serving on the Violence in the Workplace Committee. Cindy was appointed by Governor Bush to serve as a Commissioner/Chairperson for the Brevard County Family Housing Board. Cindy also served on the Arts in Public Places Advisory Committee and the Brevard County Commission on the Status of Women serving as Chair in 2000 and 2001 where she started the Young Woman of the Year Award. Cindy also served on the Arts in Public Places Advisory Committee and the Brevard County Commission on the Status of Women serving as Chair in 2000 and 2001 where she started the Young Woman of the Year Award. She served for many years on the Ruth Funk Textile Museum’s Acquisition Committee and currently serves on the Heritage Committee for the Town of Indialantic.

She enjoys going to antique shows, thrift stores, traveling, visiting with her children and three grandchildren and spending time with her husband, Circuit Court Judge Jim Earp.

Nancy Fowler moved to Indialantic in 1959 with parents Dugald and Carolyn Black, immedi-

ately found Eastminster, and the family remained active in the church (her parents passed in the mid-1990’s). Nancy participated in all the youth activities, including VBS, summer retreats and choir.

She received a BS from Auburn in Food and Nutrition and went on to University of Wiscon-sin for grad school and a dietetic internship. Soon after, she was married at Eastminster, then moved to Tampa to start a family and worked first as a Dietician and then at her husband’s computer company. Nancy moved back to Indialantic in 2005 and returned to her church family.

She says, “God led me back to this comforting and active church. Yes, there are problems, but as with any family, if everyone works together, Eastminster will survive and even rise above where it was. I am honored to be considered for a session seat and will work diligently with God’s direction to find agreeable solutions for the concerns of the entire church body.”

Bill McCaslin and wife Melba have been members of Eastminster since 1973. Bill has served as Deacon and Elder, as well as working on the Christian Ministry Center building committee. Bill retired from Harris in 1997 after 28 years of service. In his “retirement” he continues to par-ticipate in a technology project using handheld computers. Bill and Melba have two children: Heather, a physician, who lives in Toronto with her husband Chris and two children; and Billy, an attorney in California.

He and wife Sarah have four children. Bill and Melba make frequent trips to see their children and grandchildren.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWLY ELECTED SESSION MEMBERS!

Judy Roach is from Kentucky and married a fellow Kentuckian. She has an English degree from Agnes Scott College and an MAT from Brown. Judy and husband John have been mem-bers for ‘at least thirty years,’ having been an elder while Roy McCormick was pastor. She has also served on the Worship and Facilities Committees over the years, and has volunteered for many local groups and causes, including Holmes Hospice where she worked as an education and training coordinator. Judy taught English to middle and high school students in Brevard County, then retired to travel, read and visit grandchildren.

Jack Rowley transferred to Eastminster in 2007 from First Presbyterian in Slidell, LA where he

served on their Session for five years—from before Hurricane Katrina through the rebuilding of the Church in the following two years. As Clerk of Session, he coordinated Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), SE LA Presbytery, and other area churches to sponsor Presbyterian mission groups from throughout the US, sent to assist in the rebuilding process.

A retired Navy Lieutenant Commander with 22 years of Naval service, he remains employed as a Senior Ocean Engineer with SAIC. Jack served 25 years in Boy Scouts, 16 of those years as a Scoutmaster. Jack was also active with Rotary Club and served as its President in 2002-3. With his military, community, scouting, and Presbyterian experience, he brings with him extensive lead-ership that is very much PC(USA) oriented.

Jack is married to Becky Rowley (our Kitchen Manager). They have three sons, each of which is also career military. He has been on the Eastminster Mission Committee since he joined the Church and helps in our fellowship programs. Jack feels strongly that he is being called to the Session to help Eastminster move for-ward, to rebuild, and to continue its growth as a strong PCUSA denomination and its role as a positive force in the Central Florida Presbytery as well as our Melbourne area community.

Sunny Rudloff joined Eastminster over 30 years ago. During that time she has been a part of the Audit Commit-tee, helped with Christian Ed and taught Sunday School, served as an Elder and Mission Chair, helped with long-range planning, and served on the Stewardship and Worship Committees. Sunny and husband David have been married for 46 years. (No photo available)

David Wilfong met his wife Joyce after graduation from Michigan State University, and was married 51 years ago at the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing. They next moved to Royal Oak where David served for many years on the Board of Trustees in another Presbyterian Church, and then to California, where he served on church and volunteer boards. A move to Florida 19 years ago brought them to Eastminster where he enthusiastically embraces the pre-sent and future of the church: “This church family is strong, moving forward in a new and excit-ing chapter; we look forward to being a committed part of it.”

Tom Wright retired in 2011 after a 37 year career as an electrical engineer, the last 27 lo-cally at Harris Corporation. He grew up in a Presbyterian family—his grandfather was ordained as a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Miami, his mother was a lifelong member of Miami Springs Presbyterian Church, where he attended Sunday School as a child. Tom and Leslie were married at First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale in 1979 and have been members of Eastminster for the past 16 years. Their sons Steve and Eric were baptized here and the oldest son Steve was married at Eastminster in 2009.

Tom is active in the church: working with other church members on various facility mainte-nance projects, participating in the annual spring work day, and ushering during Sunday wor-ship. Tom and Leslie also sponsor a lovely 6-year-old girl named Dasia through Compassion International. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family.

Now that he is retired, Tom looks forward to applying his problem-solving skills and management experience to Eastminster while serving on session.

Karen Delos Santos was born and raised in Brevard County and has been a member of

Eastminster for almost 2 years. She works full time as a Mental Health Therapist in a not-for-profit agency focusing her practice on marriage and family therapy. She has been married to Brian Delos Santos for over 13 years and the couple has 4 children, ages 8 years to 6 months.

One of Karen’s most important missions in life is to raise her children to love and serve our Lord. She and Brian are so thankful for Eastminster and the way the church has embraced their family with open arms. Karen is honored to serve on the PNC and committed to serving in this role, being guided by God, for what is in the best interest of our church.

David Dunn is a retired physician who served as elder at two previous Presbyterian churches and as a member of the PNC. He & wife Midge first attended Eastminster over ten years ago while visiting family and joined seven years ago when they moved to Melbourne to be near two of their children and five grandchildren.

Howard Hickman has been a Christian and a ‘church man’ since the age of 14, serving in

a variety of leadership positions, including deacon, teaching, and pastoral search committee. Before his retirement, Howard’s professional career was with the Brevard County School Sys-tem as middle and high school principal and HR Director.

Howard and wife Marie have been members of Eastminster since 2000, having been ‘blessed by the ministries of this church.’ Howard is active in the Chancel Choir. He adds, “The pastoral ministry and leadership is key to the spiritual health and growth of Eastminster. I look forward to serving Eastminster and our Lord on this committee.”

Mary Kaminski lives in Indialantic and has been married to Jim for 33 years next month. They have two adult children who grew up in the choirs and youth programs of Eastminster. Mary and Jim joined Eastminster 23 years ago and have worked on the Christian Ed Commit-tee, Scholarship Committee, VBS, and confirmation classes. Mary says she is “very excited to be nominated to be a part of the PNC.”

Patsy Oliphant has attended Eastminster for 62 years! Her parents were founding mem-bers of Eastminster and, as an infant, was at the original ground-breaking ceremony. She grew up in the Eastminster family, attending Sunday school, VBS, church, and the ‘famed’ youth group where she grew socially and spiritually. Patsy attended Western Carolina University where her major in Special Ed led her to work with emotionally and developmentally challenged students in the DC area for the next 25 years, always coming home to Eastminster on holidays and summer breaks.

After retiring from teaching in 1998, Patsy returned to Indialantic and started a small busi-ness. Patsy attends Saturday night service but loves the traditions of Sunday worship. She

states, “I consider myself a Presbyterian through and through; our doctrines have governed my beliefs and nour-ished my faith.” Having ‘experienced’ every minister Eastminster has had, she is grateful for the PNC nomination and believes the Lord is calling her to serve the church by helping find a new minister. She adds, “I humbly ask that you will pray that God guides me in this most important endeavor.”

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE!

Juliana Schook is 12 years old and going into 7th grade. She is homeschooled and lists her hobbies as reading, painting, and watching Doctor Who. She loves God and Eastminster, and has been going to church here since January 2010. She also loves VBS and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior during the 2011 VBS. It was an amazing experience, she adds, one she is very grateful for. Juliana just started going to youth group and really enjoys it. She is very active here at Eastminster, especially with the children’s programs.

She is a youth helper on Saturday nights during children’s church, has helped with King’s Kids, and participated in handbells, children’s choir and, of course, the really awesome musicals with June Leech. She says, “I really consider Eastminster to be my second home and am looking forward to helping it grow again!”

Bob Ufferman started his medical career in the Midwest, moved to Rochester for internship, residency, and a teaching po-sition; went to UC San Francisco on a Nephrology Fellowship, married Judy along the way, had a son, and moved to Melbourne in 1976 where he was one of twelve physicians to form MIMA.

Bob, now retired, has served as Medical Director, Presi-dent, and Board member for many groups. He and Judy joined Eastminster in 1985 and have been an integral part of this church ever since. He has 2 grandchildren.

Leslie Wright graduated from University of Florida in 1978 with a degree in personnel management and was employed at Ben-dix Avionics as a buyer for six years, where she met husband Tom. In 1979 they were married at First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale, and moved to Melbourne when their son Steve was an infant. As a volunteer at Indialantic Elementary and Hoover Junior High, she served on the PTSO Board for three years. Tom and Leslie became members of Eastminster in 1997. Sons Steve and Eric were baptized here and attended church programs throughout their school years.

Leslie has worked as a volunteer receptionist in the church office for 15 years! She has also served on various ministry teams and committees, including sending cards and calling on the sick and shut-ins, preparing food for Lenten lunches, VBS events, planting and weeding at spring work day, and making and delivering dona-tions for the Women’s Center.

Leslie says, “I feel it would be an honor to assist in the nomination of a new pas-tor. I am looking forward to the future of Eastminster and am excited about the re-birth of our wonderful church!”
